Public Car Park in Hvar Town

by lethasaldanha

Can anyone tell me if the Public Car Parks in Hvar Town are free and if not what the cost is? Also is it safe enough...

Re: Public Car Park in Hvar Town

The car parks do have a charge - can't remember just how much but not excessive, and they are quite safe as long as you follow the sensible procedures of locking any personal stuff you're leaving in the car in the boot. We have left cars there - and everywhere else we've been in Croatia - without any worries.

Travel Tips for Hvar

Hvar Numerous Bays

by mircaskirca

The island of Hvar is known for its numerous bays. If you imagine yourself on a holiday far away from the noise, traffic and stress of everyday life, this is what you are looking for. We mostly explored the southern side of the island where are stretching numerous bays with beautiful sandy and pebbly beaches, such as Dubovica, Zaraće, Milna, Jagodna, Bojanić Bad and Zavala. There are many more but we had no time to explore them all.

Houses in bays were built by local inhabitants as fisherman weekend houses and were later redecorated for tourism and renting. Some of the bays are so secluded that there is no electricity. Houses have solar panels and large pools for water. It's ideal for Robinsone tourism, without a car and tourist crowds, alone with the colours and sounds of nature. Some of the bays are completely uninhabited and others reachable only by the sea.

Lying on the pebble beach or in the shade of a pine tree, warm and crystal clear sea, the noise of crickets and waves... make you wish you never leave :)

Lavander & rosemary

by Enzyme_X

Hvar is famous for it's plantations of lavander and rosemary and it's century long tradition of producing lavander / rosemary oil.. All over the island you can see pitoresque teraces where locals grow those two cultures. Besides tourism it's one of the most important economys on the island.

Unfortunately couple of years ago most of the fields were destroyed in a large fire and are not haven't recovered yet.

takes a little effort to get here but.....

by marktynernyc

Head to the south side of the island by following the signs to Zavala. You have to go through a long, one car width, very dark tunnel and then down some steep switch backs to get to this beach - but it's worth it for the peace and tranquility/ Have lunch at Skalinada - or even rent a room from them.

Scedro

by canaglic

The island of Scedro is situated south of the larger island of Hvar. Its beauty lies in its indented coast and vegetation consisting of typical Mediterranean communities of woods and macchia. There are several old houses on the island as well as archaeological sites both on the island and nearby underwater area.
