Sucuraj, Hvar
by karenincalifornia
Our car ferry's destination on Hvar was Sucuraj, a sleepy little village on the east side of the island. From there, we drove the length of the island to the town of Hvar, located on the other side.
After having done this, I strongly recommend taking the Split-Hvar ferry, which does not require you to drive through the island. The road going from Sucuraj to Hvar is extremely narrow, has many hairpin turns, is on high cliffs in some places, and has no shoulder or guard rails. There is just barely enough room for two cars going in opposite directions. I was a nervous wreck by the time we got to Hvar. Of course, all that was fixed with a serving of Gregada (local Hvar dish) and a fine bottle of Hvar wine in an outdoor cafe right on the Adriatic.

Dubovica
by mircaskirca
The coast of Hvar is full of beautiful beaches and bays. During our stay on the island we tried to get each time to a different one and it was no problem to drive a half an hour or even an hour two times a day (in the morning and in the afternoon) to find a nice quiet bay where we went for a swim and enjoyed in a shadow reading a book.
On the southern coast of the island closest to Stari Grad is a beautiful secluded bay of Dubovica. It has a 150 m long pretty pebble beach which has a crescent shape. The bay with a mountain backdrop is dominated by the summer residence of the Kasandrić family dating back to the period from the 17th to the 19th century. On the other side of the beach is a sweet little village (more of a hamlet) with just a small church and a few old stone houses. In one of them is a small restaurant that serves drinks and delicious seafood.
This is indeed a beautiful spot and very peaceful. The sea is crystal clear and it's hard to resist not to dive into the blue waters and have a swim. You can reach it by boat or by car. We followed the new road from Stari Grad to Hvar. Soon after the tunnel there is a parking (on the left) where we left the car. From there a narrow and steep path leads down to the beach.
About Kiva
by rich77 about Kiva Bar
Inside the Kiva Bar, barmen are very friendly and nice... if you order some tequila bum bum, you will wear an helmet where a boy makes a boum boum over... it's really funny even if... the barman doesn't joke so much with the power :D
Here my poor friend David... Btw, the helmet is served to you :D
Good seafood
by tpk2 about Junior
Junior is a nice, affordable place for eating local seafood. The restaurant has around ten tables inside and three on the street. The inside is not really that interesting, but on a warm summer day eating outside is great.
The food is excellent. The menu is quite simple, just the way it should be in Dalmatia ;) I ate fried calamars both times we went to this place. A portion is 50 kunas (2007).
