Travelling to/from Hvar in September/October

by amy1981

Hi am very confused!

I'm looking to travel from Split to Hvar on 28th September ideally returning on 1st October. Ideally I'd like to go directly to Dubrovnik (on ferry) on 1st but I don't think I can do that. The ferry website has really confused me. There doesn't seem to be any Ferry's on 1st october to split?

Can anyone help?

Hi,
it seems there is no ferry from Dubrovnik but with a ferry it takes 9 hours to Split. Why don't you change direction of traveling. From Split you take bus to Dubrovnik it is around 4-5 hours and it 's leaving almost every hour.. Sleep one night there. Next day at 3pm is bus to Korcula town arriving 6.20pm. Next morning at 6am you have speed boat , katamaran to Hvar town arriving at.7.15am. Next day you have again 1 hour by katamaran to Split. Katamaran Korcula-Hvar - Split is 7 days a week as a bus Dubrovnik Korcula, and Split - Dubrovnik.
Cheers

or you can head to Split directly instead of Dubrovnik from whichever you come from.

then take the ferry to the islands and then onwards to Dubrovnik.

this I did and it was great.

There is Catamaran and Ferry Service to Hvar from Split in October. The Ferry goes to Stari Grad and runs a few times a day. The Catamarran goes once a day in the afternoon to Hvar Town. I took the Catmarran last year in mid October.

There is a ferry that runs Riejka -- Split -- Stari Grad (Hvar) -- Korcula -- Dubrovnik. Leaves Stari Grad Sat. Oct 3 arond 8 Am takes about 6 and a half hours.

Bus from Split to Dubrovnik would be faster and it's a very scenic route.

Travel Tips for Hvar

Sucuraj, Hvar

by karenincalifornia

Our car ferry's destination on Hvar was Sucuraj, a sleepy little village on the east side of the island. From there, we drove the length of the island to the town of Hvar, located on the other side.

After having done this, I strongly recommend taking the Split-Hvar ferry, which does not require you to drive through the island. The road going from Sucuraj to Hvar is extremely narrow, has many hairpin turns, is on high cliffs in some places, and has no shoulder or guard rails. There is just barely enough room for two cars going in opposite directions. I was a nervous wreck by the time we got to Hvar. Of course, all that was fixed with a serving of Gregada (local Hvar dish) and a fine bottle of Hvar wine in an outdoor cafe right on the Adriatic.

Rent a boat

by rich77

In the centre of Hvar you can rent a boat and made a marvellous trip around the islands of Hvar... It's a very exciting trip, with lot of marvellous places... and btw it is not much expensive... Sunglasses and something to eat...

Dubovica

by mircaskirca

The coast of Hvar is full of beautiful beaches and bays. During our stay on the island we tried to get each time to a different one and it was no problem to drive a half an hour or even an hour two times a day (in the morning and in the afternoon) to find a nice quiet bay where we went for a swim and enjoyed in a shadow reading a book.

On the southern coast of the island closest to Stari Grad is a beautiful secluded bay of Dubovica. It has a 150 m long pretty pebble beach which has a crescent shape. The bay with a mountain backdrop is dominated by the summer residence of the Kasandrić family dating back to the period from the 17th to the 19th century. On the other side of the beach is a sweet little village (more of a hamlet) with just a small church and a few old stone houses. In one of them is a small restaurant that serves drinks and delicious seafood.

This is indeed a beautiful spot and very peaceful. The sea is crystal clear and it's hard to resist not to dive into the blue waters and have a swim. You can reach it by boat or by car. We followed the new road from Stari Grad to Hvar. Soon after the tunnel there is a parking (on the left) where we left the car. From there a narrow and steep path leads down to the beach.

About Kiva

by rich77 about Kiva Bar

Inside the Kiva Bar, barmen are very friendly and nice... if you order some tequila bum bum, you will wear an helmet where a boy makes a boum boum over... it's really funny even if... the barman doesn't joke so much with the power :D

Here my poor friend David... Btw, the helmet is served to you :D

Good seafood

by tpk2 about Junior

Junior is a nice, affordable place for eating local seafood. The restaurant has around ten tables inside and three on the street. The inside is not really that interesting, but on a warm summer day eating outside is great.

The food is excellent. The menu is quite simple, just the way it should be in Dalmatia ;) I ate fried calamars both times we went to this place. A portion is 50 kunas (2007).
