Ferry Stari Grad to Split - September 2010
by vazzoc
Hello
I was wondering if someone could help me out here
I have been looking for a ferry on September 11 from stari Grad to Split.. I believe this is doable but when I go to the Jadrolinija Ferry Booking Page (http://www.jadrolinija.hr/default.aspx?lang=2) there is no option from STari Grad to Split.. At this stage I can see ferries from Stari Grad to Ancona, Bari, Dubrovnik and Korcula... but no Split
I need to book a flight from Split back to Eatern Europe but cant do that until I can book the ferry to Split
If anyone could help me I would love your help:)
thankyou
Mark

thanks mate
I really appreciate it
strange thing is though when you go to the booking system on the site and select departure port Stari Grad, it doesnt let you select Split as an arrival port.. weird. Only Bari,Ancona, Korcula, Dubrovnik and Rijeka.. you literally cannot select split..
Any ideas why??
thanks again Mark

You've probably selected the link named:
Rijeka - Split - Stari Grad (Hvar) - Korčula - Dubrovnik - Bari (Italy)
If you scroll a bit lower on Jadrolinija homepage, there's a list of links under the title 'District of Split' - there you'll see the schedule to Stari Grad as well as catamaran line to Hvar city.

Maybe you entered the on line booking, which is not possible for local ferry lines, that's why only ports of coastal line and international lines appeared.

You will probably be without car, there is nothing to be booked , just show up and buy the ticket, ferry always picks up ALL the passengers.
Only if you are with a car,do come earlier to get in the queue.

Howdy there Mark
great you got the info.
another option is to take a private (very cheap) boat from Hvar to Bol in Brac island ,enjoy the beach there ,then take the bus to Sueptar(50 mins bus ride)then a ferry boat to Split(its only 40 mins).
dont miss Brac island
(used to live and work there for 5 years .its like heaven).
Zdravo

Travel Tips for Hvar
Hvar Walking
by mvtouring
If you want to see the other face of Hvar, which is a little less popular than the sea, swimming and sunbathing, you have to forget about cars, boats, engines and gasoline, and join the pedestrians of Hvar. Walking in the fresh and bracing air is the most pleasant form of physical and spiritual recreation. A stroll in the outskirts of Hvar is a great opportunity to discover the Mediterranean nature of Hvar, the sweet-smelling botanical garden, the variety of the flora and fauna, Hvar's vineyards, olive groves and its diligent farmers.
Fishermen's Evening in Vrboska
by mircaskirca
During the summer months there are a lot of festivals and cultural events in the island. One of them that we had the opportunity to attend was the Fihermen's Evening in Vrboska, an event that represents culture and local customs of the place. It took place on 23rd June at 8:00pm in front of the church - fortress of St Mary which dominates over the village of Vrboska.
The evening started with the performance of traditional folk dance and continued with the concert of klapa music. It's a form of traditional cappella singing from Dalmatia, performed by a group of singers (mostly men). Sometimes they add a gentle guitar or a mandolin. They sing about love, wine, homeland and the sea. After cultural program started public celebration with abundance of local food and wine. There were salted and grilled sardines, dried figs and a variety of cakes and biscuits made by local women. Wine was in barrels and you could serve yourself. And the best thing, everything was completely free, a kind of promotion of lovely fishermen's village of Vrboska
Hvar Town's southern side
by Venturingnow
Hvar's southern side seemed a little less explored and touristed than the other parts of town. If you walk a long time, around the last stretch of hotels, you'll find lots of open space, lavender fields, and beaches free from the crowds. Wait until the evening when the sun is setting, the temp is nice, and the views are great.
Milna
by mircaskirca
If you go from Hvar town towards the southern side of the island you find Milna, a small and peaceful village situated in a lovely bay with four large pebble beaches surrounded by pine forest, agaves, vineyards and orchards. Orientation to the south provides protection from northern winds and the sea is warm and crystal clear. The prettiest of all is a naturist beach. There is a path through the campsite, past the beach restaurant and over to the last beach, about 15 minutes from the village. Since we only stayed in Milna one late afternoon, when the whole beach was in the shadow, we thought we rather return to the main beach to catch the latest sun rays.
Further west on the bay there is the baroque summer residence of the Ivanić family (Matija Ivanić was the leader of the people's rebellion in 1510). Built in the 17th century, it is the most beautiful summer residence on the island. It now houses an inn.
Milna is 5 km away from Hvar and can be reached by the old road. The village which has today about 100 inhabitants was founded in the mid 20th century when the villagers of Malo Grablje (located in the interior) due to poor economic conditions decided to move to the bay where is now Milna.
A real treat
by TheWanderingCamel about Palaca Paladini
After missing out on a most-anticipated Sunday lunch at the Konoba Humac, we were determined to treat ourselves before we left Hvar. Palaca Palandi was our choice, and we were not disappointed. A lovely walled garden terrace scented with citrus trees, hidden behind the walls of the mediaeval Paladini Palace, was the perfect place to retreat to from the summer heat. Service was friendly and efficient, and lunch was excellent. The restaurant has a reputation for good food lovingly prepared and it certainly delivered. Grilled squid is such a regular feature of Croatian restaurant menus. I love it and must have eaten it in at least a dozen different restaurants there last summer and this year and it has always been good, but the squid at the Palaca Paladini is definitely the best I've had anywhere in Croatia.
