by NadiaBearzatto

I was in Hvar in August, found "Sosa" and all her beautiful pieces.
I need an email address or website please!!!!
The "gentleman" of the ceramic pair l bought, tragically dropped to the floor and is broken. I must replace it!
So hope someone can help, don't know how when I can get back there

I found this number in one of the Business directories on-line:

Phone: 00 385 915229979
E-mail: darkososa@st.hinet.hr

from here: http://www.obrtnici.info/katalog/obrt/145277/?showemail=1%2Bri%2BnQ8Bd%2BVTdH4OyGdZY9ZtV4%3D

I suggest you call rather than write email. Or try both.

You would have found your answer if you'd take your time and check "Hvar shopping" here at VT:

Just to add that @st.hinet.hr e-mail address is outdated and the e-mail will probably bounce back. Several years ago T-com changed old Croatian Telekom addresses from @st.hinet.hr to @st.t-com.hr .

Travel Tips for Hvar

Rent a scooter

by tpk2

Instead of staying in one place, it's worth it to go on an excursion. The island has so much more to offer than the tourist-packed towns on the coast! A good way of doing this is to rent a scooter for 250 kn per day (2007).

Assuming that you start from Hvar town, a good one-two day trip (less than 100 km) could be Hvar - Milna (small village on the coast) - Stari Grad (oldest town on the island) - Vrboska (beautiful village on a bay) - Jelsa (second largest town on the island) - Dol (a village inland) - Brusje (a nice view on the islands of Brac and Vis, perfect for sunset) - Hvar. Hvar has excellent restaurants. See my tips.

Risotto Pelegrin

by KristaB

Pelegrin is a cape between Hvar and Stari Grad. I guess it is the variety of it's underwater inhabitants that inspired local gourmets to name this dish Risotto Pelegrin.

For 4 persons:
3 cloves of chopped garlic - put on a warm olive oil, add
0,5 kg of calamari - clean, cut into rings and sauté for 15 minutes with 1 dl of fine white wine, add
0,5 kg of fresh prawns - I peeled them, makes eating easier.
Put 0,5 kg of small shells into a separate pan, cover with lid and cook for about 5 minutes - until shells open.
Cooked rice - add sautéed calamari and prawns, stir, add just a little of water from the pan with shells, but be careful because it is salty seawater, also use fine colander or cloth to get rid of sand, and in the end add shells.

More different ingredients - better taste. Local epicureans also use small barnacles and all things crawling and living in the tidal area.

Traditions, herbs and sightseeing ideas

Stari Grad

by xristos83

If you come to Hvar, take a look at Stari Grad for a day...it's only a short bus ride from Hvar. Actually I arrived first on Stari Grad, and then took the bus from Hvar. The name "Stari Grad" simply means "Old Town" in Serbo-Croat. This town is supposed to be the oldest settlement on the island of Hvar (correct me if I'm wrong!). The side streets were very fun to explore.

Zaraće Beach

by mircaskirca

Only a few kilometres after the bay of Dubovica is Zaraće. Following the new road from Stari Grad to Hvar town you have to turn left where a steep narrow road leads to the sea. I was quite scared when I saw how steep and narrow was the street. It was impossible to meet with another car coming from the opposite direction. For this reason they made a few places where the road is wider and cars can meet. But it went quite well and I soon got used to it.

At the end of the road, on the left, is a parking which actually belongs to the restaurant, but it was no problem to leave the car there. This is certainly the most romantic place for the restaurant where tables are placed on the top of the cliff, with the view of an amazing sunset over the sea of Hvar. It offers genuine old-style cooking and some of the best wines from the island, in a silent ambience surrounded by the sea. Reservations must be made in advance. Here you find a long pebble beach, the main beach of Zaraće.

But there is another beach in Zaraće, one of our favourites. It's only a short walk to the right from where we left the car, and at the end are stone stairs down to the beach. The lovely little bay with only one house (I wished we stayed there) has a huge rock on one side, offering a nice view of the bay.

House of Food and Cocktail Bar

by mircaskirca about Antika

Antika House of Food is beautifully situated in over 400 years old stone house in one of the atmospheric lanes in the old part of the town. The owner Boško Račić opened this restaurant 10 years ago in addition to his famous cocktail bar Cafe Antika which has two floors with a beautiful roof terrace where you can enjoy fancy cocktails and good wine. It is also a meeting point of the local bohemians.

With outside tables it is a great place to enjoy the food and observe life passing by. Nearby are several art galleries whom owners are frequent visitors of Antika. The restaurant specializes on Mediterranean and local dishes, seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes, and they also serve breakfast. I actually knew what I was going to order without even having a look at the menu. Can you believe it? ;) I was quite excited to try the dishes recommended by my local friend.

For started I had two preferences, octopus or tuna carpaccio. Unfortunately they ran out of octopus carpaccio so I opted for tuna carpaccio. The dish was served with rocket, olives, sea grass pickles, tomato and slice of lemon. For the main dish I had kotlenka which is a soup/stew made with shrimp, prawns, mussels and other shellfish, potato and courgettes. I had a glass of local red wine to accompany the meal.

I was very satisfied with the food, everything was really delicious! The bill came to 142 kunas (June 2010). Will certainly return here when I visit Stari Grad again.
