Azalea Hotel Fontana-Jadran-Pinus

Beautiful surroundings - new owners

When we booked our reservation for the Hotel Fontana - Pinus Apartments they were owned by the Azalea Resorts, but by the time we made our trip in August 2007 - there were new owners. I think they had just taken over and I don't think they have gotten everything down yet - at least by American tourist standards. Although, I'm pretty sure they don't get very many Americans. Most of the other travelers were Italian, French, Swedish, British or other close European neighbors. The room was clean, but they did not clean it every day. They emptied the garbage and gave us new towels - but didn't really clean other than that. The front desk was not very helpful when you wanted anything. I asked about tennis and they said the tennis courts were owned by a private company and they had no information on them. They also had no information on how we could do laundry. They would only give us two keys when we had five people in our apartment, and they were not even sure we had checked in when my friends asked. My friends were also staying longer and wanted to keep their room for a few more hours and were given a hard time about that. They had to come back to the front desk like three times to talk to the correct person to get that straightened out. It was fine overall - but a little disorganized. The facility itself was nice - our room had modern bathrooms and kitchen, and comfortable beds and good air conditioning etc. The setting in Jelsa was beautiful and relaxing. Overall - a very nice experience and I would recommend it for larger groups who want a nice apartment and a pool and still be close to town and the sea.

Unique Quality: There are two pools, one is about 4 feet deep all the way around and the other is maybe 2 feet deep all the way around. They have aqua aerobics every day as well as some other activities. The Azalea Kids Club is not functioning any more but they do have some kids activities if you find the correct person. They have a bar and restaurant right next to the pool and the sea is an easy walk down the steps away. The restaurant had sandwiches, burgers and salads for lunch but they closed early - no dinner. There is lots of room to lay out and get sun and it's not too hard to get a chair even at peak times. The hotel is an easy walk from Jelsa which is a cute town that has lots of restaurants and cafes and pretty much anything else you could need except a laundromat. This is a great place to spend a week and we would definitely do it again.
