the Giant of Makarska
Just back from two wonderful weeks in Makarska and the Dalmcija Hotel. I have to admit I wasn't expecting a great deal from the hotel having seen pictures and read very vague descriptions of it. However, my girlfriend and I were very pleasantly surprised by it. The grand open reception area greets you and instantly impresses. All the reception staff spoke very good english and were very helpful throughout our stay.
We got very lucky with our room. In 810 we had a corner balcony which looked directly onto the sea. We also had amazing views of Mount Biokovo and the best of all, the incredible sunsets every night. The room was clean and well furnished with what looked like new furnishings and the bathroom was a good size with a good shower. I had expected an old fashioned, bog standard kind of room, so was delighted to be greeted by this room.
If you're going defintiely ask if you can have a room on the 10+ side as this will ensure sea, mountain and sunset views of breath taking beauty.
Unique Quality: Despite being slightly unsightly i'd definitely recommend the Dalmacija. The rooms are a good size and standard, and the facilities were excellent (free safety deposit box a highlight). The breakfast selection was ok. The cooked stuff looked a bit ropey but plenty of people were tucking in so assume it was ok. I mainly ate fruit, bread and pastries, though there is also cereals, toast, yoghurt to go with the cooked eggs (scrambled and boiled), bacon and sausages.
The pool was nice though it was tough to get a sun lounger if you weren't there early. Usual problem of certain people "reserving" them with towels at day break! This is not really a problem though as the beach is a minute away! We mostly used the pool area as a post beach retreat. Pool has salty water in though which was a surprise to me!
The entertainment guys and girls were energetic and busy, though they didn't get in your face if you made it clear you didn't want to line dance or whatever.
Overall a great place for couples/families to stay and a great base to see the rest of Makarska and the surrounding area.
Unique Quality: One hundred and ninety rooms, air conditioning, satellite television, mini bar, direct telephones in rooms, restaurant, La Fiesta Promenade Restaurant, lobby bar, pool bar, casino, outdoor swimming pool, children's swimming pool, souvenir shop, newsstand, TV salon, salon, small harbor for boats

Croatia in style!
Friendly staff, especially when we needed advice on the best bars to go to.
Great place to base yourself while in Croatia. 1 and a half hours south of Split and 3 hours north of Dubrovnik and plenty of options to take a boat out to the islands of Brac and Hvar. Nice breakfast buffet, especially if you like donuts.
Great location. Metres from the beach, bars and restaurants.
Great view of Makarska. Be sure to get a balcony with a sea view.
Excellent pool and private beach. But be quick and get your towel on a deck chair before everyone else.
Plenty of acitivites for adults and children day and evening.
Jez's is right outside the Hotel Dalmacija which made it ideal for us. A more upmarket looking establishment than the rest of Makarska, but without the up market prices you may expect.
Great food, good service and very attractive surroundings make Jezs most peoples 'last night' restaurant choice.
Filet Mignon very good!

"Makarska, Croatia: Adriatic sea and Biokovo"
Saturday 6th of october 2007 we returned from our holiday in Croatia in Makarska on the Riviera with the same name. And a great holiday it was. Wonderful weather, hotel Dalmacija with a magic view from the top floor, and lots of energy for many activities. Swimming, scooter trips, hiking, climbing the Vošac mountain to an altitude of 1421 meter and thus the little brother of mount Sveti Jure, that rises high above Makarska and the Adriatic islands. Simply check our website to view all photos:

I will also upload pictures from the other activities when I'm finished selecting and editing them.
