dont miss the merina fish and steak located just past hotel meteor right on the promenade.
We tried to get peka a local dish of slow cooked lamb and vegetables.They need 2 or 3 hours notice for this speciality so we had whitebait and schitzel.We went back the next night for the peka stew and found a reseved table with flowers,free soup ans scnapps and then the lovely dish specially baked came out in a big stone pot.Delicious!
Jez restaurant was also excellent, classy and upmarket. Peka stew as described

MAKARSKA, CROATIA

Between Split and Dubrovnik, along the Croatian coast, is the town of Makarska.

The town has a population of around 15,000, and dates back to at least the 16th century.

Catering mainly to tourists, it has a beachfront about 1.5 km in long, with hotels, restaurants, and gift shops.

The Hotel Meteor is in the bottom left corner of this picture.

Meteor Hotel Makarska

I am considering staying at the Meteor hotel in Makarska for 3 nights (we are travelling with 3 young children so a pool is very useful). We want to be near the beach and cafes and want to experience Croatia at its best. The other option was to stay on either Hvar or Brac. Is the Meteor a good choice or should I look elsewhere?

Meteor is very good choice.It is nice hotel just on the beach in one of the most beutifull dalmatian little towns.Hvar and Brac are very nice too,but if you stay only 3 nights with 3 young children it is not soo confortable to travel to island.

One of Makarska's nicest places to stay.

A nice, clean, Class A hotel, with a great view of the Adriatic, and a backdrop behind it that is very impressive.

If you check back to my Intro page for Croatia, you'll see the Hotel Meteor in the bottom left corner of the picture.

The picture here was taken from my single room. The single rooms are quite small (by North American standards), but they are clean and each has its own bathroom. And besides,...you're not going to want to spend the whole day in your hotel room anyway, right ?

The hotel has 280 rooms, and is a short walk to the town center.

There is a beach just beyond the trees, but the water in the hotel's outdoor pool is considerably warmer.

Note: not all women go topless poolside or at the beach, but you shouldn't be surprised to see that some do.

Unique Quality: Each room has air conditioning, a satelite TV, and a mini bar.

The hotel has a restaurant, snack bar, a bar, hair dresser, currency exchange office, souvenir shop, parking lot, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and tennis courts.

A variety of water sports is available, incl. sailing, rowing, water-polo, windsurfing, waterskiing, scuba diving, a fitness center,
and volleyball on the beach
