The people in Split are mainly Croats, whose Croatian language is written in the Roman (or Latin) alphabet. There is also a large Serb minority and smaller numbers of Slavic Muslims, Hungarians, Slovenes, and Italians. The Croats are predominantly Roman Catholic, whereas the Serbs are Serbian Orthodox.
