Our cruise is docking at Trogir and offering a very expensive tour to Split. I have read that the #37 bus goes there, but wonder if we could hire a taxi to take us...and bring us back. If so, any idea of how much it would cost?

A taxi will cost somewhere in the 300 - 350 Kuna (40 - 48 Eur) range for one way.
A good alternative to no.37 bus are long distance buses that pass through Trogir on their way to Split - they are faster and more comfortable than a local bus. Plus, they arrive to the main bus station in Split which is very close to the city centre. Use Split bus station website (www.ak-split.hr) for timetables of long distance buses.

Travel Tips for Split

watch the pretties walk by

by miromi

Sitting on the elegant promenade watching the beautiful people walk by: this is what life is about, and Croatians are probably among the happier and warmer Slavic people because of this good weather and mediterranean lifestyle. The old hotels serve slightly pricier but affordable coffee meals in a really elegant setting. Eat this, Monte Carlo! This is the real thing. The coffee is excellent, on par with Italian delights.

Splicani, people from Split are big sports fans. This city is a home for two teams with big history - soccer team Hajduk ('The bandit') and basketball team 'Split' - former 'Jugoplastika' in old Yugoslavia.

So Splicani would probably like you more if you mention to someone how you know that Goran Ivanisevic (tennis), Toni Kukoc and Dino Radja (basketball), and Slaven Bilic (soccer) are from Split!!!

Primosten-An island village of the Hill

Wonderful scenery of this old Medieval village is the reason to come here. WE did not have time to stop, but got a couple of pictures of the long range view and landscape. The Turks tried to conquer this in 1542 but failed to do so. Beside being under Roman rule for centuries, the Venetians maintained control for nearly 500 years. Wine vineyards are the main commerce behind tourism and it is a UNESCO designated site.
It is about 50 kilometers north of Split, and a good day trip visit.

Bus from Mostar

by easterntrekker

We arrived in Split by bus from Mostar. It took about 5 . It was a warm day and the AC wasn’t great. Visa was accepted at the terminal in Mostar . The trip cost $25.00 and 3km for our luggage. We should have saved some Bosnian money as they stopped for a cold drink before we entered Croatia.

Pizzeria-Pivnica Grgur

by yumyum

On our second night in Split we had trouble finding a place to eat which had interior seating. Everything was full with tour groups or otherwise because of the cold Bura wind.

Finally, near the Golden Gate we found a place. The Grgur restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and a great variety on the menu. Apart from pizza they have various meat dishes and salads.

The restaurant seemed to be a family run place. I chose a Vienna schnitzel with French Fries for 63 kuna and a juice for 15 kuna.
