Travel Tips for Trogir
Worn, but beautiful
Trogir's most dominant features to me, were its waterfront promenade and its main central square, Trg Ivana Pavla II where you'll find the Cathedral and a number of other important architectural buildings. However, part of the real charm of Trogir is found in the streets that fan out from the main square. Narrow passageways and time worn buildings can be found all throughout the Old Town and merit your exploration.
When strolling around the old core of the town you may feel lost in this narrow streets which all looks a like. Just follow your instincts because all this streets lead you either to the main square or to the Riva.
Loggia - doorway
The Loggia-doorway, situated next to the Porta Civitas, towards the tradition, after by night close the entrance to the town have served as a night shelter for the travellers.
Later on it was the fish market and nowadays it is souveniers shop.
Mala Lo?a, the small Loggia is outside the city walls, just by Porta Civitas, along the Riva. As the gates were closed at night, it was designed as a night shelter for travelers that arrived once the gates were closed. It was later and until the 80s used as a fish market. It is now filled with souvenir shops.
"the old town placed between land and sea"
Trogir is a remarkable example of urban continuity. The orthogonal street plan of this island settlement dates back to the Hellenistic period and it was embellished by successive rulers with many fine public and domestic buildings and fortifications. Its beautiful Romanesque churches are complemented by the outstanding Renaissance and Baroque buildings from the Venetian period.
