May Day is a Celebration
by BruceDunning
We arrived here on May 1st, so it was time to do as the locals do. We sat down, talked crude Croatian language and drank beer and wine for a while. The band played and we got there late in the day, but I guess it was an event of 6-8 hours starting around 9-10AM based on the "tipsy" crowd. There were around 300 people in the park by Kamerlengo fort
The Riva
by acemj
Again, the word Riva in Croatian refers to the promenade running along the waterfront and in Trogir it is particularly peaceful and beautiful. The Riva itself is wide and accommodating to walkers and along the way, you'll be able to see Kamerlengo Fortress, the Dominican Church, the Town Gate and a number of lovely cafes to grab a bite or simply sip a coffee while watching the world go by.
City Museum
by BruceDunning
The disappointment is that no one really explained that this museum has been closed for nearly two years. They projected to open last season, but no money. Now maybe they will open for this summer traffic, but a person told me they are not prepared, nor ready to open and the items are scattered and there still is no money. So the chances are slim to none.
It was read that very little of artifacts or archaeological ruins were ever inside the museum, and the mudane tour is probably not worth the effort.
The Marmont Glorijet
by JLBG
Napoleon took power on Dalmatia from 1806 to 1814 and created the Illyrian provinces. Close to Kamerlengo, a "gloriette" was built to remind the glory of Marmont, chief Marshall of Napoleon's armies in Illyria. The French "gloriette", used for a small round pavilion with colonnades in a park, is written "Glorijet" in Croatian.
Trogir- Paradise away from Split
by Venturingnow
"Getting away from it all"
Seeking to get away from the bustle of Split, I took the bus to Trogir, a pleasant sea-side town less than an hour from Split. Placed in the area of Mediterranean climate, Trogir with its 2700 sunny hours per year is a real treasure among other tourist destinations in Croatia. Located on an island, the town has great stone architecture and monuments, a great belfry, fine dining, and great weather. Check it out.
