Travel Tips for Trogir

The Portal of the Cathedral

by croisbeauty

As I have mentioned before, the magnificient portal of the cathedral is a must see. It is one of the most beautiful portals in whole the world. By the time I have visited Trogir, and made this picture with analoque camera in 2002, the cathedral was under reconstructions and closed for the visitors. During my recent visit, in April 2006, I even couldn't approach to the portal.

Passage

by croisbeauty

This is a typical and very characteristic passage you can see in almost all the mediterranean cities. That kind of the construction help the locals to be protected from the very severe winter-season wind called "bura".

The Loggia

by acemj

Also in Trg Ivana Pavla II, you'll find the Town Loggia and its interesting clock tower, which is rather simple in appearance, but certainly gives off an image of strength and solidity. The Loggia dates from the 15th century and is highlighted by a large relief of Justice with St. John of Trogir and St. Lawrence on each side. The relief is the work of Firentinac.

Porta Marina

by JLBG

Porta Civitas is also known as Porta Marina, the sea entrance. It is not exactly in front of the bridge that leads to Ciovo island but close to it (see map in the introduction). Most of its Renaissance carvings have now disappeared while the wooden doors have been preserved and remain in good condition.

CITY HALL

by wild80s

"PILLAR OF SHAME"

Trogir has impressive cultural-historical monuments, including the unique 13th century City Hall, St. Lawrence Cathedral and Loggia. Right outside City Hall there is the Pillar of Shame where they used to shackle the guilty form City Hall. It was all quite interesting. Of course then there is the outside market right accross the river. They had alot of beautiful flowers, delicious looking fruit and bread and who could forget the smell of the various types of cheese.
