Not more than 30 kilometers north of Trogir is another very nice island town that visitors stop to enjoy the scenery and old Medieval look. Wonderful scenery of this old Medieval village is the reason to come here. WE did not have time to stop, but got a couple of pictures of the long range view and landscape. The Turks tried to conquer this in 1542 but failed to do so. Beside being under Roman rule for centuries, the Venetians maintained control for nearly 500 years. Wine vineyards are the main commerce behind tourism and it is a UNESCO designated site.
The Cathedral
by acemj
Unfortunately the west portal of the cathedral, which is the building's most distinctive feature, was getting a facelift while I was there, but I was able to get a good look at most of the details through the scaffolding. The cathedral was begun in 1213, but the Venetian style campanile that you see in this picture wasn't added until nearly 300 years later.
Inside, the cathedral is pretty dark, but you wil find some interesting paintings of St. John of Trogir, whose sculpture also guards the city's northern gate. You can also enter St. John's Chapel and the sacristy from inside the cathedral.
St. Dominic Monastery
by croisbeauty
The Monastery of St. Dominic, home of Dominic order, is situated on Riva very close to the Kamerlengo citadel. It is very simple construction made of wide world famous white stone from island of Brac, the same one which was used for the White House in Washington DC and most of the churches and palaces in Venice. It is the stone of an extraordinary beauty and quality, which represents decoration in itself and that is why most of the constructions, made out of Brac's stone, are very simple and without decorative elements.
Trogir, Sept. 9th - 13th

In the afternoon at one of the cafes having a glass of wine or an early evening stroll with a cone of gelato - the beauty of Trogir emerges. Trogir has an urbanity about it yet still posseses an intimacy. A UNESCO heritage site - Trogir is also a great base to do day trips along the coastline.
I was told that the scaffoldiing used for the restoration had been removed just a few weeks prior to my visit. The outside and especially the portal are stunning - the interior is somewhat drab. The cathedral is closed Sunday but is open for morning mass.
