Travel Tips for Trogir

Ice creams !

by JLBG

Everywhere in Croatia, there are many shops selling yummy ice creams but I have found that in Trogir, there were even more and with an even wider variety. If we had to choose one, I really do not know which one. Luckily, we are not ice cream eaters and our pleasure was to gaze at all of them in the windows !

The Greek god of the happy moment - Kairos

by FRONA

The relief of Kairos, the Greek god of the happy moment, probably from the 1st century B.C., is kept in the Benedictine nunnery with the church of St. Nikola. The Greek inscription from the 4th - 3rd century B.C., the oldest written monument in the area of Trogir, is also built in the wall of the cloister of this nunnery.

The city Hall

by JLBG

The city Hall stands on the same square (Trg Ivana Pavla II). It was built in the 15th, rebuilt in 1890 and in
1943 after it burnt.

The figure carved in the yard wall of the city hall (second photo and enlargement on the third photo) is said to be Matej Golkovic, the master stone-cutter.

The fourth photo shows a coat of arm with a twin headed eagle, standing on the wall.

Fortress of Saint Marc

by JLBG

Fortress of Saint Marc was built in the 15th by the Venetians as a part of a whole complex of defense of the city against the Turks, added to Kamerlengo fortress. The wall that connected them disappeared along the centuries. Instead, there is now a football ground (soccer) and on top of the fortress stand a bar !

Trogir - the gem of Adriatic

by croisbeauty

"Anoter gem in the Croat Crown"

Trogir is one of the most beautiful town on the Adriatic coast and a must see when visiting Croatia. It is situated 25km northwest of Split and is a prefcet spot for a half-day trip.
The old core, as you can see on the picture, is situated on a small island connected with both mainland and island of Ciovo by the bridges.
This is, of course, borowed picture.

"The old core"

The historic centre of the town of Trogir, due to the importance of its cultural and historical heritage, was entered into the list of the UNESCO's World cultural heritage on 6th December 1997.

"The bridge to Ciovo"

This is a picture of draw bridge which connected a small island where the old core of the town is situated and the island of Ciovo.
