Summer in Zadar - Beaches and sea

by Ronaldinho86

Hi,
I've thinked to stay one week in Zadar with my girlfriend in the next summer (after the last great experience in Dubrovnik).
But I don't understand if there are beaches in the city and if the sea is good as in Dubrovnik, for example.I Would arrive there with the plane,so I would not have a mean of transport...so,are the beaches easily reachble??Or could it be a good idea to rent a scooter? How are the streets' conditions?
And what about the nightlife,is Zadar an animated destination in the summer?

Thank you very much.

There are several nice beaches with great sea like Punta Skala, Tustica, Vitrenjak, Puntamika, Borik, Diklo etc.
Beaches are easily reacheble with public transport. To hire scooter is good idea too, not expensive. In all tourist area streets are brand new. I suggest you to hire a boat and go to several diferent island in one day. It's not expensive. There is a lot of islands around Zadar.
Nightlife in Zadar during summer is crazy, especialy Garden festival in July, great beach parties 15 minutes from city centre. Was there last summer.

Zadar city center has many bars and pubs. I was in the midle of summer in Dubrovnik and city centre was empty after 11 pm. In Zadar is diferent situation and prices of food and drink are 2 times cheaper.

Thank you very much!
Sinceraly I can't (and I don't want) "drive"(?!?) a boat, better an organized excursion to the islands...But which are the distances between the city centre and these beaches?I hope not too far for a scooter...And do you think it's better to stay in the centre or outside it?
Thanks again

P.S.: 2 summers ago,in August,in Dubrovnik, sincerely there was a lot of people in the streets of the old town and the bars were always full till 1.a.m....maybe different periods. However I'm happy if Zara has,if possible,a better situation! We don't look for discos but for bars or disco-bars full of people where to take a cocktail, with music,etc...

Travel Tips for Zadar

Crkva sv. Donata

by croisbeauty

The most outstandind monument of Zadar is, unquestionably, the former church of St. Donat dedicated to the Trinity. The church was first recorded in the celebrate work by Byzantine emperor Constantine Porfirogrenetus on the management of the state.
The church has circular ground-plan and, like several other buildings of its kind built around Europe at the same period, a double space. Yet. it is a wholly original project for which there exist no prototype. The pre-Romanesque Church of St. Donatus dates back to the ninth century, and it is undoubtedly Zadar's most famous site.

Gospe od Zdravlja

by croisbeauty

The small church Gospe od Zdravlja is situated about 100 meters from the church of St. Stosija. According to its simple look of the front facade it must have been built in the Romanesque style. However, the bell-tower and the Presbytery have been built in different styles Thanks to VT member Svenko, now I know the name of this church.

Nin-Churches of Old

by BruceDunning

The Holy Cross church shown is from the 9th century and was the main palace for baptisms for centuries. The Aslem church and tower is the main church from current day that dates back to 14th century. A viewing through a window allowed to see the nave, because the church is closed as well as the tower and maybe not open often, except church days.
NIn is located 10 miles north of Zadar on Road 306, or take E65 out of town and follow signs to Nin
