Sobe/Zimmer/Camere/Rooms: Rooms for rent
  • Satisfaction:
  • It's extremely easy to find private accommodations in all of the touristed areas of Croatia. People hang small signs on their houses advertising "sobe," which can be anything from their kids' vacated bedroom to a complete apartment with private entrance. Breakfast is sometimes included. To get set up, just knock on the door of a house with a sobe sign, ask to see the room, and start haggling.

    It really pays to shop around among the various houses you may see. Some rooms are wonderful, comfortable, and private, while others are a lot less inviting. In this relatively new market, it appears that the concept of competition on price and quality hasn't yet taken hold. Some people with great rooms charge less, and some people with terrible rooms charge more. If you look at 3-4 places in a given town, you'll get a good idea of what's available. If you liked the first one the best, you can always go back and grab it!

    Sobe are usually priced on a per-person, not per-room basis (even if breakfast is not included). The prices of private rooms appeared to run about EUR 12 per person on average.

    Villa Matejuska, Split: Family owned hotel
  • Satisfaction:
  • Cosy, well appointed modern rooms in a beautiful old building. Great location in the heart of Split and close to the harbour.

    The reason this hotel stood out to me was because of the friendly service and little extras the owners gave, like picking us up from the airport and carrying my suitcase down to the ferry and shouting you to a coffee if you cross paths during your stay.

    Villa Melita - Rovinj: Great Appartments
  • Satisfaction:
  • This was a great place to stay, we were impressed by the standard, and even though we did not have breakfast there this can be provided. This will be a great place to stay for a large group as they have a great central meeting place with barbeque and pizza oven to use.

    private accomadation with Nela: Hvar
  • Satisfaction:
  • We arrived in Hvar after getting the ferry from Dubrovnik. We were picked up by our host as we had contacted her before leaving.

    The room was well decorated, clean with a nice outside area with sea views.

    We had a bathroom and outside fridge

    It had lovely views and was set away from the main town.

  • Address: Nela private room
  • Directions: It was described 10 minute walk from the main town. It was 10 minutes to Hvar town but 15 minutes back as it was at the top of a hill. Most flats are within 10 minutes walk so this was really on the outskirts of town

    private rooms: crashing granny's
  • Satisfaction:
  • Throughout Croatia you will see signs that announce that a private apartment also lets out rented rooms. These places are a great deal and are usually fairly private, and much more comfortable than most any hotel. They cost about the same as hostels too. Just knock on the door and sign language your way into getting a nice place to stay for the night.

    by far the best places to lodge are private rooms. and it's a nice way to see how normal Croatians live.
