How easy is it to travel around by public transport from Porec? We are thinking of going on Tuesday for 2 weeks but are not sure if there are places of interest close by. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Porec is a small town. You can wander there by foot.
From there you can do some daytrips to Rovinj and to Pula by bus.

Istria peninsula where Porec is not so large and is easy to navigate. Coastal towns are easily accessible with buses, but inland area with hilltop towns is not that handy without a car.
Town of Rovinj is a must see if you ask me, but also Pula, Bale, Motovun and other inland places, also Opatija (next to Rijeka), than Brijuni national park, etc.
Very good site to plan your vacation:

Travel Tips for Porec
Roman ruins.
by Maurizioago
There are some Roman ruins some meters from Marafor square. In fact you can see three columns that were part of the temple of Neptun. In a field near these ruins there are some ruins of the temple of Mars, a sarcophagus and some other ruins. These ruins of temples dates to the first century.
The northern quay
by JLBG
The building on the first photo, though in poor condition looks great. It overlooks the northern quay. It must have been something important but I have been unable to identify it. It is in the rear of the Eufrazijeva Basilika and must belong to it's complex.
While the Decumanus is packed with tourists, the northern quay (second photo), less than 50 meters away, is almost desert and remains quiet, even in Summer. It makes quite a change to walk from one to the other ! Walking around the peninsula by the quay is a nice walk.
language
by elsebeth
I was amazed how well the croats spoke other languages. Their preferred language by far is italien, then german and english. Many of them speak more than one foreign language, and you can watch people working with tourists switching from italien to german to england. I think its so cool to be able to speak so many languages.
they use lots of italien slang and I sometimes had problems understanding them.
an example : gasbottle for camping = bombalo
fridge= frigo!
Awaiting for a bath ?
by JLBG
I spotted this bather's statue, in front of a bank, behind a few bushes. She seemed to be awaiting for something ! Suddenly, I realized ''Thalassa, thalassa'' ! She is waiting for water ! Bathers are always looking for water ! I did not notice at first that the poor girl was sitting in the center of a should-be fountain that is not. She has better rely on rain than on men's water !
Neptun temple
by elsebeth
away from the Marafor square, hidden away from the other tourist areas is the remains of the Neptune Temple. There are no signs leading people there, and when you reach the place it doesnt say what it is. before you get to the temple you pass some pillars of the old Mars temple which one have some very sorry remains left.
Neptune was the towns protector, because Porec was a fishing town and he was the patron of the town.
