Arena 1
by croisbeauty
In Roman times the amphiteatre was located on the main road, Via Flavia, which passed between the sea and the amphiteatre and led to Aquileia (near Trieste) and on to Italy.
Another important road passed immediately above it, leading to Nesactium and further toward Tarsatica (Rijeka) and the southeast.
It is highly probably thet the first, somewhat smaller, mphitheatre was built on the same spot by emperor Augustus at the very beginning of the 1st century in the process of the great renovation of Pula. It is supposed that parts of the building were of wood.
View from the Kastel toward the industrial harbour
by JLBG
The industrial harbor of Pula is very busy. Here five cranes are working together to load and unload the boats. I have not found any data on the nature of the main imports and exports of the harbor. I keep searching.
Me In The Amphitheater...
by coceng
Part posing, part mesmerizing the place, I asked somebody to take a photo of meself.
Reclining (almost) to the ruins, there's a sentimental value seeping in my me...
Feeling good being far away from home, being at a majestic place in Pula, in Croatia.
Thank God, we have photos in our modern days now, otherwise I would gladly asked somebody to draw a painting of me reclining on those ruins....
The Franciscan church
by JLBG
Another unidentified church, close to the arena.
Thanks to Boris that identified it for me as The Franciscan church. The church and the large monastery were completed in 1314. The belfry is situated on the top of the presbytery.
Venetian styled Palace
by croisbeauty
Being a very important military port throughout the passing centuries, the town of Pula have suffered of the major distractions from the air, especially in the WW II. There are not much of the palaces left in the old core of the town.
This Venetian styled palace is situated in the Kandlerova street, just a foot from the Forum and the Cathedral.
