Roman Amphitheater...
by coceng
In Greek, amphitheatron means 'double theater'.
It is a specific Roman structure of great dimensions having an eliptical form.
Amphitheater was built to carry out Gladiator Games - ludi gladiatori ; fights between wild & enraged beasts - venetiones ;nautical battles - naumachiae & other games popular in the Roman World.

At the time of its full function, the amphiteatre had twenty gates for the spectators. When I was a little kid I used the spend a lot of time inside of the amphitheatre in playing. The game we used to play was a very dangerous one; we play at catching up on the walls of the second and the third level. That kind of game demanded a lot of skill and speed.
Ribarska koliba

The huge natural bay called Ribarska koliba (Fishermen's cottage) is turned into Marina, one of the biggest and best organized in whole Adriatic. It is also nice beach resort, but since there are many motor boats there, I do not reccommend it. Instead, you can enjoy here in excellent seafood which offers restaurant "Valsabbion", one of the best seafood restaurants on the Adriatic.

The view inside of Arena where the stage is situated. It is a unique experience being here and participating to an summer attraction, such as opera show or rock concert, do not miss when in Pula. In modern times, during the period of the existance of ex-Yugoslavia, arena served for the annual review of the Yugoslav films.
Nowadays, it is the place for the major international rock attractions, such as Sting, Zucchero, Renato Zero, Brian Ferry etc.

This picture shows in the background the buildings of the new part of Pula, in the South of the old city. We have not visited it (sorry Niksa !) but may be we will do it next time ! As this seems to be really new, there might have some architectural interest. To be followed !
