on the cheaper side

We somewhat often came to swim here in this little bay of Valsaline because the rocky coast suited us with its diversity and proximity of pine forest. Only recently we stayed in the hostels since it wasn't the warmest day in late April, but after sleeping here for one night we also changed our mind and decided sleeping outside is better. In tent of course and in camp of other place near Pula.

Back to hostel: there's public bus connecting it to centre or you can walk some 3 kilometers till the historic district.
Their dorms are small with few beds in each room (ours had 6) which hadn't been any warmer than outside in Aprile which was main reason we left (and saved money). I guess their common bathroom must be too small when all beds are full, no doubtly in summer when it's peak season. Plus they need some fixing here; only one shower unit in the floor (with few dorms) plus altogether real tight place.
I guess when also dorm is full there is really little space for your luggage and wet towels but then again that's hostel.
Breakfast end by 10 am which is early if you went to sleep late.

Maybe try some their bungalows for more privacy (and more money). Or stay in tent, they have small camp in their compounds and you can take shower within common bathrooms outside.

Unique Quality: Their best place is the common terrace on the open air where breakfast are served and after it, you can buy yourself lunch and beer in the season. It gets full of of visitors especially in summer, we kinda liked drinking coffee and beer there as it's quite lively place.

Access to water is easy, from concrete platform into gravel beach, then it slowly deepens. No urchins here and no jellyfishes ... hehe. The first ones come later with other sea fauna when you're already swimming and it is too deep to touch the ground with feet.

Staff is helpful and has lots of fresh first hand information willing to share with their guests. They can also book you with trips or reserve a visit to Brioni National Park.

There are few parking places behind their fence but I guess most will park outside when it's main season.

Pula to Venice travel?

by will-i-am

Hi,
I'm going to b visiting Pula in late August early September and will be flying back to England from Venice. I'm trying to work out travel arrangements to get from Pula to Venice on Sunday the 12th Sept but don't seem to be able to find anything, can anyone offer any advice / help?

Many Thanks,

Will

From Pula tourist information web site you have few buses from there to Venice:

http://www.pulainfo.hr/hr/prijevoz/autobus/54/

PULA - TRIESTE - MESTRE - VENEZIA
5.30 8.40 10.35 10.45 ( svaki dan osim nedjelje - every day except Sunday )

or

PULA - TRIESTE - MESTRE (Venezia) - PADOVA
5.00 8.00 10.00 10.15 11.00

I suggest you go to kolodvor/bus station in Pula first day you arrive and inquire directly with staff - perhaps you'll need reservation (or you won't). Sometimes information on-line can differ with one in 'real', so don't rely entierly on what you read on internet or forums.

There are also phone numbers of the bus station on above web site if you want to call them.

There's catamaran Pula-Venice until the end of August, but no more in September.

Train is also option, it leaves at 7 morning, it's more than 600 km so it's little long.

Anyways - I would leave at least one day before the flight, because noone can tell what happens on the roads or trains (maybe there's unexpected delay, which is rare - but it's best to be sure and had plenty of time than too little).

Travel Tips for Pula

Pula's roman forum

by DPando

As Split it looks lIke a roman city .....Really its not ahuge town and could be seen in a day ..but its charm make that you dont want to run away from there...all the coastline is really beautifull and in the south end there are extremely beautiful beaches

Roman Amphitheater...

by coceng

According to its size & simple monumentality, the Amphitheater in Pula represents the most magnificent structure from the period of Roman antiquity.
It also shows the importantce of Pula during Roman times.
Also, judging by the size of the Amphitheater in Pula, it ranks the 6th among the known & preserved structures of this sort in the Roman Empire.

Arena 4

by croisbeauty

The stone for the amphiteatre was brought by sea from a neighbouring quarry at Vinkuran. I still remember the times of the Film Festival in Arena, last week of July and the first week of August. Those were the days with lot of spectacles and amusements, especially the opening ceromonies.

Arena 7

by croisbeauty

Gladiators fights were arranged in the amphiteatre for spectators from the widest layers of the Roman population.
Most of the gladiator-fighters were the slaves or the prisoners of war. The only criteria was if they were of big proportions, over average body strength or famous as a very brave fighters

The outside bells of the Franciscan church

by JLBG

The outside bells of the Franciscan church are viewed here from ulica Castropola. On the left, the quietness of the church. On the right, busy cranes are working in the harbor. This is the kind of contrast that you will often encounter in Pula.
