The Main Square - a good place to start
Rovinj's main square Trg Marsala Tita is triangular rather than square and really amounts to a stretch of open space where two streets seperate. What it lacks in size it makes up for in charm and it's position right on the edge of the sea is perfect. Cafes and Geletarias line the sides of the square, many of them situated in old Baroque palaces, and from here you can sit and watch Rovinj go by. Behind you is the old town, in front, the sea and as far as the eye can see, the streets and boats that spread out along the harbour. The fountain at the centre is a favourite resting spot for pigeons and seagulls and vicious power struggles take place as these two warring factions squabble over titbits from the tourists. Particularly pleasant is the fact that while sipping your cappucino, you are close enough to watch fishermen mend their nets and keep an eye on the boats ariving and leaving.
The first photo shows the square from the sea and how the two almost merge. The second is a wider view and the third shows a jazz combo playing outside the Hotel Adriatic on Sunday morning. The fourth photo is of the fountain.
