Great Location + Huge Breakfast +Reasonable Rates
I chose the Park Hotel because of its location and its amenities. The location couldn't be bettered with everything within walking distance and made- for- camera views of Rovinj at every turn. Amenties are good with indoor and outdoor pools and quite a selection of bars and terraces to enjoy the views from. Our room price included the breakfast buffet which was superb and kept my nearest and dearest smiling all week long. The dining room at the Park must have the best views in all of Rovinj and every morning I spent most of my breakfast time taking photographs. The big photo on my intro page was taken from our table midway between the scambled eggs and the croissants. Room rates are reasonable, especially offseason and a full-board option costs very little extra.
Some points worth noting. Even though everything is within walking distance, it is a good 15-20 minute walk into town. The bedrooms are comfortable and adequate but definitely on the small side. This hotel stays open all year and relies heavily on tour groups. None of these factors impacted on our stay and we were very happy with our choice. I booked this hotel with an Irish company called 1800hotels.ie and got a really good deal. This is the second time I've used them and for personal service and good value for money I couldn't recommend them highly enough.
Unique Quality: The Park Hotel is situated directly across the bay from Rovinj's Old Town and stunning views are guaranteed. The marina in front and the Forest Park just immediately beside the hotel make for a really pleasant ambience. Every evening you get to watch the sun setting over the sea from the comfort of your own balcony.
Directions: Next to the Punta Corriente Forest Park, above the yacht marina at Rovinj
Large Hotels just south of the Old City
There are a row of large hotels where the majority of tourists to Rovinj stay. The Park Hotel is a huge property. Most people stay for a week or two, take half board, enjoy the indoor and outdoor pools and the extensive grounds. One advantage of these hotels is the park like settings they are in. There are lots of places to relax and hang out.
Directions: Easy walking distance from the bus station, as is nearly anything in Rovinj.
More about Hotel Park
loved rovinj shame about hotel park
Rovinj is a beautiful town and would come back again but i would not stay at the hotel park again. We booked through Thomson holidays and we paid extra for a sea view but did not get this for the first five days. We had a thunder storm one night and a crack appeared in the ceiling and water poured into our room. We also booked a day trip with Thomsons which cost £104 to the plitvice lakes we spent 10 hours 10 minutes travelling and only 4 hours at the lakes take my word dont go.
Rovinj is great!
Just returned after a great week at the Park Hotel, cannot really fault the Hotel - couple of minor points, we requested pool/sea view and ended up with a partial view of the sea [marina] but not pool or the stunning village view! Explanation from reception is that rooms for 3 people are on the edges of the hotel therefore do not directly overlook the pool. That aside and the 'English/German' practice of getting to the pool first [towels on beds at 7am etc, lack of sunbeds at the pool can be a problem]. Room was spacious, comfortable and air-conditioned.
Food-wise the buffet was very good, large, varied selection of good quality food.
All staff we spoke to were very friendly and helpful. There is a kids club to keep the kids amused and table tennis, badminton, board-games etc are available to all to use.
Small shop inside the hotel, internet facilities, small bars and restaurants under the hotel along with small supermarket open from 7am - 2pm.
Rovinj is beautiful - would come back when the weather was cooler to allow us to spend more time exploring this lovely village.
Day trip to Venice is tiring but worth it. Book with the travel agent next door to hotel, the tour guide staff were also very helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable [especially Ratko who was very funny!] One tip though is don't book the lunch with the trip there are loads of cafes and take away places in the vicinitiy which offered very appetising snacks at reasonable prices. The gondola trip is excellent as is the water-taxi back to the boat.
All in all excellent holiday had by all.
Excellent Hotel with Great Views
We visited Rovinj as our first introduction to Croatia - got a superb deal which meant we paid about £500 each for a fortnight half board including flights. So this review is based on that cost/expectation ratio!
The building itself is pretty ugly as one would expect from the Communist era. We almost felt guilty staying there as it the view to it from the od town is pretty unpleasant. However, the views from it are excellent with both the bar and the restaurant having great views across to the old town.
The food is good, plentiful and reasonably varied though a bit bland for my taste. We do not usually eat at hotels but the food here was good enough for us not to be tempted elsewhere - though there are some attractive looking restaurants in the town. Service was friendly and efficient and we even got served when we inadvertently arrived back late from a day out in Pazin/Motorvun.
The corridors in the hotel are a bit Stalinist but the rooms are pleasant and we had a bit of a view across the top of another block to the old town
Rovinj itelf is fabulous, larger than I expected and a pleasant easy walk from the hotel to the centre. (There is also a large area of coastal parkland immediately to the south of the hotel which makes for a pleasant alternative walk or cycle ride) .
There was a festival on when we arrived so it was lively but went a bit quiet mid week before livening up again at the weekend when the Italians arrived presumably to enjoy the cheap beer (£1.50 - £1.90 a litre) and wine.
We toured using the local buses which are pretty good though be careful if you are returning from Pazin. The bus is supposed to arrive back in Rovinj at 8pm according to the timetable but arrives back at 9pm as it travels via Pula. Places to visit are Davigrad an old ruined village(bus to Kanfanar (20 mins bus then 45 mins walk) , Pazin (1 hour bus) - castle with museum and excellent tourist office with walks - check their website which is the best in the area, Motorvun (45 mins infrequent bus from Pazin but also on organised trips), Pula (1 hour bus ) and Bale (20 minutes bus - a gem of a walled town on the Pula bus route but not visited by most tourists!). Also do not miss the trip to the Plitvice lakes - long journey but facinating countryside and disturbing evidence of the war which led me to read more about the disturbing history of this beautiful land.
Finally I should add that Rovinj is much nicer than Porec which is very, very commercialised and we were really pleased we chose it for our first Croatian experience.
Hotel and resort fully recommended.
Stayed for a week in July. Hotel was fantastic. It was everything we had seen in the brochures and on the net, plus more. The reception and bar area really comfy and smart. Everywhere very clean. Pools great.
Location perfect. 5 minutes walk from the old town without having the pedestrian traffic everywhere. View from room / poolside / restaurant / bar beautiful. Staff really helpful. Turn left out of the hotel, hire some bikes and tour the peninsula with all the intimate beach areas. Only problem being no sand, just small pebbles. Bikes only cost £1 per hour.
Lots of bars and restaurants to just meander around and enjoy, letting the world go by. just like Venice but not as busy. Drinks typically 60-90 pence for a large wine, £1.20 for large beer and £1.40 for bottled water. Local Istrian wines really good quality.
Hotel breakfast and evening meals of excellent quality and choice. Best buffet from holiday hotels that I have seen.
Big(12-65years) and little (5-11years) kids entertainment plentiful without being in your face. Only snag for us was that we had a 4 year old who couldnt stay in the club on her own.
The hotel entertainment staff did a brilliant caberet of all the musicals. Infinitely better than the usual holiday rep performances. Make sure you see it.
Room was smallish but very clean and modern. Air con worked well. View was as the brochure.
Tip for people:- when you remove the roomcard from the electricity enable to leave the room, all the sockets switch off, apart from the one the TV is plugged into. So if you want leave your phone to charge, plug it into the TV mains socket.
Apart from 2 1/2 days of tropical storms, we really enjoyed our stay at the Park Hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
better than good ....
Top quality hotel in super location - just a few mins stroll to the old town. Food sooo good in resturant that you wont want to eat elsewhere - top quality fish and meat dishes every night plus excellent salads. Litre of good house red at only 68 kunas (approx £6!). Pool clean and refreshing. No complaints at all - dont usually do 'half-board' but you cant argue with this hotel!.
In Rovinj there are many excelllent places - avoid round back near old port area - a bit tacky/seedy but safe. Lampo- pepper steaks and fish platters awesome as is litre of house red at 50 kunas!. Only rip-off place is Zanzibar - scandalous prices and impersonal staff - at least twice the price of other bars for tiny glass of wine or imported bottled beers.
Venice trip v good but takes a lot longer to get back - watch the Russian tourists on the boat - rude, aggressive, loud and very heavy drinkers - the new 'Germans'!!!!
Enjoy - its a really great resort and top value hotel although more suited to couples and adults than families as not that much to do for restless kids!.
Just returned from a weeks stay at the Park Hotel with my husband and 6 friends. Cannot recommend the hotel enough. Food excellent, good selectiom at every meal. The position of the hotel and the view is excellent, overlooking the harbour and the beautiful town of Rovinj. All staff friendly, hotel clean, pool clean, plenty of sunbeds. The view is magical and the hotel is in an ideal position for exploring the beautiful town of Rovinj.
Pleasantly situated, and good views. The one disappointment was the food; in the evening it was very hit and miss, while at breakfast basics ran out quickly, and were not replenished.
The room was great, and the air conditioning was superb.
Watch the swimming pool though - no depth markings, and with warning notices that are only visible as you leave the area!!
The hotel is situated in the best position to enjoy all of Rovinj and the view from the bar is superb. However I was very disappointed that we paid for a seaview and got a view of a wall and the dining room. We did get a view of the harbor when stood on the balcony, but not a very good one.
New Kids on the block
I am going to Rovinj Park hotel June 6th for 2 weeks. First time in Croatia. Normally take swimwear, shorts vests t shirts for day and skirts and tops for evening abroad at this time of year plus Shrug or cardigan in case of chill in evening. Is this adequate clothing for Rovinj in June.Am 61 my Partner 64 young romantics but soon feel a chill in air.All tips appreciated. Also average cost of Pint of Beer and Glass of Wine etc. Thankyou
RE: New Kids on the block
Hi Last October we spent 2 weeks in Croatia, plenty of tourists and casual clothes are the go, I wore shorts and shirt with collar most of time, at night if we were going to restaurant I would wear long trousers, was not cold in October, I believe June will be warm, just take a casual jacket or top in case you find it cold,
Good Luck, Mikebb
RE: New Kids on the block
I am Croatian and I must warn you that you cannot know how the weather will be in June. Some years we start swimming in May and in some years, June can be chilly. Usual case would be that summer will start, but still it will not be too hot. If it is nice June, it is the most beautiful month of the year for me. Not too many people on the beaches, not too hot, but you will be dressed in T-shirts and shorts. But you must have few pieces of warmer clothes because within 2 weeks weather can change several times.
Have a nice holiday!
RE: RE: New Kids on the block
Thanks for the replies so far. Is the weather similar to Majorca?
