Advice needed about restaurants in Rovinj

by Keith66

We are about to book a week in Rovinj in early September.
Can anyone recommend good local restaurants - Our tastes are wide and we like to sample the local food when abroad.
Any general advice about Rovinj would also be helpful as we have not been to Rovinj before but we have been to other parts of Croatia - Cavtat and Korcula.
Thanks,
Keith

Restaurant Blu on the north shore just outside Rovinj is good. Most in town are OK without any standouts.

Sidro is a decent restaurant w Italian fare. It is waterfront on A.Rismondo on the mainland edge of the harbor. Highlight here is to watch sunset over the town; this is location for all those pictures one sees of the town at sunset.

For local seafood, we liked a tiny restaurant about 1/2 way down Sv. Kriza (the tiny lane toward penninsula from the harbor. When you come to a (relatively) large kanoba (=traditional fare restaurant) that spans both sides of the lane, usually w several locals enjoying a beer or espresso sitting on the uphill edge, turn down into the restaurant and walk to water's edge. There you will find several hidden tables with great waterfront views. Food is catch-of-the-day, (stuffed squid is good, too) w local wine (to get house/local wine, always ask for a jar of wine, not a bottle).

If you plan to drive to Montavan, and want a total but heavenly splurge, try a late lunch/early dinner at the Zigante truffle store/restaurant in Lavade. Reservations usually necessary. Try for one of the new tables in the covered outdoor area on their courtyard. It is very expensive, but ranks right up with any classic over-the-top dining.

Travel Tips for Rovinj

Rovinj

by montezaro

Rovinj is situated in the most western part of Croatia, on peninsula of Istria. It is relatively small town but one of the biggest and among most beautiful touristic resort on Adriatic.
The old core of the town is very pitoresque and by the colors of its facades looks very alike to Burano, townlet nearby Venice/Italy.

Rovinj From Top....

Climbing the hill & the church tower gave me most beautiful sceneries all around Rovinj...
Reminds me of Dubrovnik where the roof tiles are also orange-gold colours....
The photo on the left was taken by me when climbing on top the Cathedral of St. Euphemia, situated on a hill, in the peninsula.
Amazing view all around !

The parish church of St. Eufemia

by croisbeauty

The baroque parish church of St. Euphemia was finished in 1736 after a plan made by the architect Giovanni Dozzi. The sarcophagus of St. Euphemia, which according to legend floated from the distant shores of the Bosphorus in the 8th century, is located in the church.

More sky !

by JLBG

If we go on walking up towards Sveti Euphemia cathedral, the houses are smaller and scattered, the street is more sunny. It looks like if we were to arrive in a different place, a different world ! Still Rovinj but not the same Rovinj !

View towards north-west

by JLBG

From the campanile, the view towards north-west shows several small islands, mostly woody. A few houses are scattered between the trees but on the whole, the islands remain very calm and not touristy at all.
