Travel Tips for Umag
yes..you can forget about sandy beaches
i spent there 12 days, among these 12 days it was raining non stop for 4 days...but i still liked and enjoyed it..because of this special fantastic smell from pine woods along the seaside...this air i think is the best thing about croatia..but if you like sandy beaches it's not a place for you to go, be ready for more wild and uncomfortable things...like long rocky beaches with arranged plateaus like thay name it..so if it doesnt scare you...YOU ARE WELCOME TO CROATIA!
The small resort town of Umag lies on Croatia’s Istrian coastline, close to the border with Slovenia.
I arrived in Umag following a 30 minute taxi journey from Piran in Slovenia. Alternatively, it would have been possible for me to take one of the twice daily buses from Piran which stop at Umag en route to Pula further down the Istrian coast.
Umag is a small, but scenic, holiday resort. It is located on a peninsular, which makes for plenty of seaside walks. The seafront plays host to numerous souvenir shops, bars and restaurants. In particular, there is an impressive stretch of restaurants close to the tip of the peninsular which have outdoor tables overlooking the sea. I stopped in one such restaurant for a dish of chilli con carne and a cold beer.
Away from the seafront, Umag has a handful of shaded streets where you can find further souvenir shops, cafes and ice cream kiosks.
