Jezerce - area of Mukinje: Very attractive private accomodations

This are random taken pictures of several houses in a small village of Mukinje, situated about 5 kilometres far from the main entrance to the Park. Each room or apartment for rent has a view, absolutely undisturbed because of free space around the houses. Those who like isolated places, tranquility and idyllic landscapes will enjoy it alot.

First and most important, rooms are comfortable and clean with the bathroom and terrace. Houses are located inside the National Park area in the midle of intact nature all around. It is spot where one could sleep like a small baby, all night long.
There is scale of prices, depending on room or apartment category. Double room cost from 40 up to 100 euros per day.

Hotel Jezero: Hotel Close to Lakes

This was a large hotel with some good facilities and specialised in accommodation for coach tour groups. Our room was clean, a good size with television etc , however you could not call it luxury. This did not worry us as we did not spend much time in the room as the first night we dined late and the second evening we visited a restaurant several kilometres away. The hotel dining room served a good breakfast and the Lounge was a good place to relax with a beer or coffee and cake. There was a shop near reception which provided all the incedentials and souvineers. We enjoyed our short stay at this hotel.

Hotel Bellevue: Decent hotel but unfriendly staff

All hotels around Plitvice are on the expensive side, so relatively speaking Bellevue isn't too bad in terms of price.
The staff on the other hand were pretty rude, I would have taken a more expensive hotel if there had been room, just to get away from the rude staff member.
The breakfast is pretty filling and it is well located next to the park entrance.

Private accommodation: Private accommodation & camping

If you have a car then you can stay in one of private accommodation near the park. Note that there are no villages nor accommodation options within the park itself. The nearest place is Rakovica, situated some 8 kilometres north of Entrance 1. If you like camping, there is also a camp here - for details check the NP Plitvice website.

If you are without a car then private accommodation is maybe not the best option. Buses to the coast just rush through Rakovica and are not very happy to receive passengers for only a few kilometres. On the other hand, walking for 6-7 kilometres along the busy road is not a very pleasant experience.

You could try contacting some owners in advance and ask them if they would pick you up at one of the entrances to the Park.

To book, use the website below or just go to one of the agencies that can arrange private accommodation - you'll find them at both entrances to the Park.

Plitvice hotels: Plitvice hotels

There are three hotels within the park, located next to the Entrance 2 (Ulaz 2). If you are using buses, it important that you ask the driver to stop here because it would be quite a long walk from Entrance 1!

The best hotel is a standard three-star hotel Jezero.

Hotel Plitvice is only two star, but this is due to very restrictive Croatian hotel rating system - you'll find bathroom, sat-TV, minibar and direct phone lines in each room and in most countries this would be a three-star hotel.

The cheapest hotel within the park is hotel Bellevue. All rooms have their own bathroom and phone. It does not have its own restaurant but guests can use the one in hotel Plitvice.

For info and contact numbers about all hotels visit the NP Plitvice website.

Hotel Grabovac: Plitvice hotels

There are five hotels in Plitvicka Jezera. We first wanted to stay there for one night in the beginning of May. I found an e-mail of the hotel Grabovac and wrote them (in English) asking whether I can make a hotel reservation. In a week I have got a reply stating that not only this hotel, but all others around are fully booked. Surprised (it is low season), I went to the travel agency, and they checked that there is a lot of available rooms, for staying one night rather than seven you have to pay like 50% more than the catalog price, and this first has to be approved by the local Croatian agent. I have asked them to do this, but in a week even they could not get the reply. Then I had to cancel this arrangement. Apparently, the hotels there sell all the rooms to the tour operators in advance and do not bother themselves dealing with individual customers any more.

You can see all the beauty of the waterfalls in a day (we spent 4 hours) and you do not really need to stay there overnight. If you want, there are private houses, which are, as people say, cheaper and better quality than the hotels. Do not stay in the hotels! Let them first go bankrupt, and them we will see.

Krizmanic Family Private accommodation: Private accommodation at Plitvicka Jezera Nacional

We stayed in the center of the Plitvicka Jezera Nacionalni Park, just some 400 m from the Entrance 1 to the Park, in a small village cold Rastovaca., in B&B runned by Krizmanic Family. Since there was 4 of us, we rented appartment for 50 USD per night - it was full equipement.

This B&B accommodation is situated at the first Entrance comming from Zagreb direction. It is about 400 m from the Entrance 1 to the Park, Bus station, Market, and famouse Restaurant Licka kuca. You can do all by walk, do not need a car.
Rooms are very nice, clean and quiet.

Rastovaca village: Private rooms in the Plitvice area

As elsewhere in Croatia, the tradition of sobe (private rooms for rent) is very prevalent in this heavily-touristed area. All along Highway 1 on both the northern and southern approaches to the park, you'll pass house after house offering rooms for the night. We opted to turn into Rastovaca village, a few hundred meters north of the main entrance to the national park. The road winds along a lovely, quiet valley in which every single house has a "sobe" sign. Just keep driving, and you'll find a bed that meets your standards!

Driving from house to house in Rastovaca, it quickly became apparent that there's quite a little sobe racket going. Price collusion appears to be the way it works here, with every single house charging HRK 100 per person per night. (At the time, this was about USD 14 per person.) We couldn't do better on price, no matter where we went, but there was a huge disparity in quality from one place to the next. So after looking at about five different rooms, we settled on the nicest one, and paid the same HRK 100 that we would have paid for the worst one. It pays to shop around.
