In Punat I have experienced some of the most beautiful sunsets ever. The sun sets just behind the hills on the other side of Punat bay, and it's beautiful to watch especially from the shore, or from the top of the hills just above Punat.

Just before entering Punat, coming from Krk, there is this old church from the 12th century, just beside the road! It is totally misplaced, or rather, the town and road around it are misplaced, because it fits perfectly into the scenery, but not into the modern structures around!

"PUNAT INTRO"

The second largest place on the Kvarner island of Krk, connected to the mainland by the Krcki bridge. Punat lies on the south-east part on the picturesque and green Puntarska draga (a small bay), also known as Kosljunska draga, and is only 7 km from the town of Krk. At one time well-know for shipbuilding, Punat is nowadays one the leading marinas on the Croatian Adriatic. It has a well-equipped large marina, a must for all those sailing the eastern Adriatic, excellent swimming areas surrounded by rich vegetation, hotels and private accommodation and various sporting facilities: tennis, mini golf, boccie, diving, sailing, underwater and sports fishing, diving and sailing courses. We recommend Punat to all of those who enjoy sailing, active holidays and various types of entertainment. A place worth visiting is the small wooded island of Kosljun placed in the middle of the shallow Puntarska draga. A Franciscan monastery, built on the ruins of a Roman villa, can be seen on the island.

Punat lies in the southern part of the island of Krk, in one of the most beautiful and wll-protected bays of the Adriatic. The hospitable local people have inherited their gentle nature from the mild Mediterranean climate, and their diligence and persistance from the continuous struggle with the sea and stone. Punat has an outstanding jewel : the islet of ko?ljun with its Franciscan monastery, which lies in the middle of the punat Bay. This God given benefits have been the encouragement to the local people to invite guests to come to Punat , and enjoy in it, with them. That is because here in Punat you can find many touristic facilities, who are getting richer every day...

First traces of human settlements are from prehistoric era. These are follwed by Illyrian, Greek and Roman remains. The name punat comes probably from Greek word pons, which means "the bridge", as it is quite possible, that there was a bridge over the narrow entrance to the Puntarska draga bay.

Punat is a peaceful holiday resort not far from Krk town on the Krk island - a marina, camping site and a place where it's possible to rent an appratment at the house on the shore, or stay in a hotel, you can find everything your heart desires.
It is surrounded by many little private coves and desreted beaches where you can find your peace in the shadow of pine and olive trees, or just hiding behind some rock stemming out of the sea.
The beaches are pebbled, sandy or rocky.
Snorkeling and scuba diving possiblities are plenty.
Most of the beaches are nudist, but nobody would complain if you remain dressed.
many people come with their boats and yachts and anchor in one of the hidden coves.
