We only were able to stay their one night, but the Waldinger was a rather exceptional hotel. Hotels in Croatia run the gammit, and Waldinger proved to be a gem. It's in a great location, with easy access to the sights of Osijek, but by the same token, it's not in the hectic thick of things (though that's hard to find in Osijek to begin with). There is free parking, which is a huge bonus. However, be aware that the lot is through a narrow passageway on the left of the hotel. It can be tricky driving in and out of here, and there is a gate through which the front desk lets you in. But having this parking feature is incredibly convienient. Rooms are spacious and well-decorated. There is not however internet, which some guidebooks claimed was to be had.
The staff was very helpful, personable and knowledgable. Also very funny, and good in English, though I was travelling with someone who speaks English.
There is an excellent gym on the second floor, which turned out to be a rare find in Croatia. Also, a great breakfast buffet is offered in the mornings, which is certainly worth your while.
Unique Quality: An excellent location, great breakfast, wonderful staff, parking and gym. It really couldn't get better. A lift would have been nice, but the gorgeous stairs weren't to be missed. It's charming and small, and also has an associated cafe next door.
Hotel Waldinger is situated in an old Secession building in Zupanijska street, 5-minutes walk from the main square. The building was built by famous Osijek secession architect and artist Antun Slavicek.
Unique Quality: In the courtyard behind the main building the hotel offers cheaper rooms in "Depadansa Waldinger" which is one of the best and cheapest accommodation options in Osijek.
Whether a hotel guest or not, it is worth checking their coffee house for its unique ambience and traditional cakes.
