Hotel I: Hotel with the shortest name

This is the hotel with the shortest name in Zagreb, and I guess in the country as well. Named simply I (pronounced as E in English), which would be a short of Industrogradnja (Industrial Building) - a company that built it after they built half of Novi Zagreb.

Although you'll feel like the hotel is situated at the end of the city, in fact it won't take you more than 20 minutes by tram or 10 minutes by car to reach the center of Zagreb. You can walk to Velesajam (Zagreb Trade Fair). Business people coming to Velesajam are their main guests, so don't expect cheap prices here.

Omladinski hostel Remetinec: Youth hostel Remetinec

Youth hostel Remetinec was built during the socialist times as one of the places where school excursions coming to Zagreb would find accommodation. They are still hoping they’ll get reservation by several buses with schoolchildren from Split or Zadar; but if that’s not the case they’ll rent you a room very cheaply.

This is the info I received from VT member derseher
on Feb 09, 2005:

I've just stayed there, after having read your comments. The place is okay.

The price for one night at Remetinec is:
1 person / 1 room: 195 kn
2 persons / 1 room: 165 kn
3 persons / 1 room: 140 kn
Tourist tax of 7 kn per day ist not included.

Breakfast is served from 7 to 8:30 a.m. (which is very early , I think). It's quality is rather low, especially the coffee is bad.
According to my information, they now have an e-mail address: hostelremetinec@hotmail.com
I booked my room via fax, which is quite inconvenient for me, since I don't have a machine on my own.

The rooms at Remetinec are simple, but large and clean. The bathroom is really good. There is room service every day, and the reception is manned 24 hours a day.
Worth trying, but a litte difficult to find and not exactly close to the town centre.

Thanks for the info, darseher!

Hotel Zagreb: Small hotel in Bundek

Formerly a motel that was famous for the few-hours visits of Zagreb's businessmen with their blonde secretaries, it is now renewed and turned into a hotel, run by a HUP company. They are situated close to Bundek lake, opposite of Eastern entrance to Velesajam, just off the road that leads to Most Slobode (central bridge across Sava).

With their prices of 300kn (40Eur) for single and 350kn (47 Eur) for a double room Hotel Zagreb is a good cheap alternative to more expensive hotels in Zagreb.

Note that the walk from the tram/bus stop involves walk through the woods - where you won't feel very safe at night.
