Youngsters like it alot

After have travelled around the world as a bagpackers, two young guys from Zagreb decided to open this hostel in their own hometown. Fulir hostel was opened in 2006, sublimating all their rich experiences gathered in number of hostels where they stayed.
It is rather small but charming little hostel with 16 beds only, situated in an old one-storey building right in the heart of the town.

Unique Quality: First of all, Fulir hostel has great location which is less then 50m from the main city square. All top attractions of Zagreb and very rich nightlife are within walking distance. The dorms are newly renovated, same as two bathrooms. There is kitchen free for guests use with a stovetop, fridges, sink and plenty of dishes and utensils. There is also a large common room with satelite TV, fast internet access and extensive DVD selection.
Each guest is provided with fresh linens, Zagreb city-map, locker for safely store belongings and all that is at no cost.
There are 12 bed mixed dorms € 19,50/per night in summer and € 17,50 in winter season, and
4 bed mixed dorms € 19,50/per night in summer and the same price in winter season too.
Discount is available for the groups!

First hostel experience!

I spent one night at Fulir Hostel in Dec 2007, my first hostel experience ever! This was straight after my first night at elegant Regent Esplanade by the train station. What a contrast, enabling me to experience living styles from different spectrums!!

Met a fellow banker at the restaurant in the Esplanade, and he told me he clubbed with some youngsters who were staying there, and liked the vibe there so much that he was thinking about staying there for a night! Whilst he was thinking, I already decided, as surely it would be more fun as I was travelling on my own :-(

It had a great atmosphere, & has the best possible location in the city of Zagreb, just 50 meters from the main city square Trg bana Jelacica and surrounded by all of the sightseeing and nightlife.

I did go to two clubs with the gang staying there, and it was good fun. However because most were students on a budget, I found it funny how they hesitated entering a certain place as it seemed ridiculously priced to them &so they decided to turn back. Had I been on my own I would have entered, but I remained 'loyal' and simply tagged along ;-) Later everyone started dispersing & went their own ways...

Next morning some of them told me they got lost & spent hours on the streets :-( Typical of 'spring chickens'!

Moral of the story: if you're with a crowd & following blindly, you'll have to stick with them as you wouldn't know the way back. So it's always advisable to have your wits about you & make a note of the route you're taking!!!

Unique Quality: Large common room, with cosy beanie bags all over. Popular with youngsters from all over the world, particularly Americans!

Individual lockers right beside your beds!

They have a room with 4 beds, other rooms had upto 10. Showers upstairs and downstairs.

Friendly hosts with very good English. No curfew time.

Located at 3A Radiceva street near all major tourist atractions like St. Mark's Church, Lotrscak Tower, Tkalciceva street known as 'Tkalca', Stone gate 'kamenita vrata', Kaptol and the Cathedral, Dolac the city's main market, also called 'the belly of Zagreb'.

Free internet Access, large common room with games, DVDs, small kitchen/bar next to the reception, dorms from 12e/Singles 22e

Zagreb Hostel

I had a great stay in this hostel. The hostel is ideally located near Trg Jelacica, the city's central square and is a good base from which to explore the city.

The dorm rooms are clean and comfortable and are available in 4 bed or 12 bed dorms. I stayed in the 4 bed the first night and the 12 bed dorm the second night. Both were fine but obviously the noise level in the 12 bed dorm is more significant than in the 4 bed one.
The hostel is a good place to meet other travellers and has a great lively atmosphere so if your not into drinking and are just looking for a place to sleep, this might not suit you, as even the staff like to chat and have a few drinks with the guests.

I enjoyed this atmosphere but can appreciate that not all travellers would feel the same. To be honest I wouldn't always be in the mood for this type of hostel either...but just so happened that I was in a lively mood myself during my stay ;)

Having said all that I have to point out that the common room area does close at the same time as the pubs close to the hostel (community agreement) so its not as if there is noise and drinking going on all night in the hostel itself. If you do want to continue, you can always gop out to the many pubs located nearby or if you want sleep, the hostel quietens around 11 or 12.

The staff at the hostel (Leo and Davor) are really helpful and welcoming. If you need anything they will try to help you out to the best of their ability. They arranged accomodation for me in Belgrade over the phone and even stored some luggage for me for a couple of days when I was travelling on and returning later in the week.

Hostel also has free internet access and provides linen and lockers free of charge.

If you want a good place to meet people, have a good time and be based close to the sites, I would recommend this hostel. If you want a quiet place to rest and recover during your travels, this might not be for you.

BTW - The hostel is one of the top rated Croatian hostels on Hostelbookers.com and Hostelworld.com

Fulir Hostel

This hostel is in the perfect location. It is just off the main square and only 10mins walk from the train station. There are about 15 beds in the hostel spread over two rooms along with two toilet/shower-rooms and a small kitchen. There is a large lounge area with TV and internet access and the two guys that run the place are very helpful and friendly.

Unique Quality: The location is the best you can get, just of the main square in a pitoresque narrow street. It is newly open spring 2006.
