Hotel Jadran, Zagreb

In Croatia, the hotels are still very much operate in the same mode as they used to do under the communists. This means they are expensive, inefficient, and not user-friendly. They would rather deal with the companies and sell all the rooms in advance, and tell you they are fully booked. In contrast, private accomodation is much better in all respects. But since we have travelled with four kids, one of them 2 years old, we had to book smth in advance. So we had to choose smth in Zagreb for a day, and Jadran was a reasonable option. They respond to e-mails (not next day, of course, but within 3-4 days), and they are not overpriced. We got two rooms with breakfast included for around 200 euros, and the quality was reasonable (we did not expect 5 stars). Both rooms had showers and toilets.

Unique Quality: Plus: central location; good quality/price ratio (for Zagreb).

Minus: Parking is a nightmare (as everywhere in the old city). The hotel has a parking lot, which is routinely occupied by the bypassing cars, which are parked in two lines. After we have complained at the reception, they found someone to give us a place, and I spent 20 minutes sneaking the car into this place.

Hidden but easy to find

Havent stayed there but this 3 star facility is located in the heart of Zagreb in Vlaška street, with the city's central square a mere 5 minute walk away.

The hotel offers 48 twin and double rooms and has it's own parking.

The longstanding tradition of the hotel combined with recently upgraded rooms makes it a favourite meeting place for business travellers.

Unique Quality: Room service

TV with satellite programs

Fax

Photocopying

Laundry and dry-cleaning

Currency exchange

some info need

by musso

Hi,

We are planning to be in Zagreb from 31st December to 4th January, and we are searching cheap but good hotels. What do you think about Hotel Jadran, it looks close to center but are there any cheaper hotels around center? Also how are the new year's eve parties at Zagreb. Would you recommend any good place for that night?
Thanks...

Hotel Jadran location is good, walking distance from everything.

Maybe you'd like to check out Ilica, Central, The Movie (not far from the centre, they have huge, very popular pub, maybe you could party there), Astoria, Jaegerhorn (pansion).

Alternative accommodation option is renting your own flat for few days (self-catering):

As for parties, most of the clubs/bars have closed NY parties. Still, some of them downtown remain open to the public. Also, city organizes open air celebration on the main square (Jelacic). If it's not rainy, if you don't mind possible freezing weather and firecrackers under your feet - it can be fun (usually lots of people).
