Perfect location

Those who don't like big hotels will find Lovacki rog (Jaegerhorn) as perfect accomodation. It is very small hotel with 13 rooms only so you need to check and book it in advance.
Jaegerhorn was founded in 1827 and it is the city's oldest standing hotel, but of course, its newly reconstructed.

Unique Quality: The hotel has almost perfect position, it is only 300 metres far from the Main Square and in the walking distance from all major city sights of interest. No matter that, the hotel is isolated in one corridor which protect of busy main city street of Ilica.
It has queen size and king size bedsplus suit. Each room has minibar, satelite tv, phone, air-conditioning and free WiFi.
The best, in my opinion is backside terrace which overlooking the Upper Town.
The prices are from 598 - 698 kn, 80-90 euros.

By train it is in 22-25 Euro range.
Do NOT buy any ticket in advance. Just go to Zagreb and buy one at the station: they never run out of the paper and there is no such thing as "sold out".

The above-mentioned 25 Euro ticket from BG to LJ as far as I know is a bit different, it's a special fare with limited contingent.

The track is essentially a "race track" on a pretty flat scenery, going by night can save hotel costs. Add about 20 Euro for sleeper.

Travel Tips for Zagreb

Kaptol

by montezaro

The corner of Bakac Street and Vlaška is situated on the rise leading to Kaptol hill. On the right side of the picture you can see parts of the rampart with which the old Kaptol was fortified.
Until 1862 here stood T.Bakac Gate, Kaptol's southern entrance. Kaptol is the oldest part of the town and the seat of the Croatian Catjolic Church.

Just to walk around the City...

by StretfordEnd

Just to walk around the City and see how it has picked itself up from what must have been a terrible time for its people. The friendlyness of its people, who showed a real pride in their city, and seemed genuinely happy that you had visited there.

Walk to feel the city

by american_tourister

I really enjoyed walking through Zagreb. It is the best way to learn a place and to get the feel. Zagreb, like many other European cities, has little wonders tucked away where you least expect them. While walking through the town on a side street I came upon this remarkable window display of baker's artistry. This was part of a display in a bakery. I was fascinated by it and spent a while looking and taking photos. I have writtena travleoge about it for perusal.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

by acemj

Is this a beautiful building? Well, VTer diocletianvs (Niksa) sure thinks so. Boris (croisbeauty), Zdenka (Nykaenen) and I might have a different opinion of this abandoned "skyscraper" located in the city's main square Trg bana Jelacica, but I guess that's okay. We all have different opinions, styles and ideas and, in a large part, that's what makes the world a beautiful place and makes us want to travel and explore these differences. So, I guess the fact that there is a touch of the modern right in the middle of such an architecturally impressive square is another example of the diversity that makes the world beautiful.

Nah . . . let's face it! The building is UGLY! :-)

Kaptol - The Cathedral

by croisbeauty

The Cathedral of the Assumption of Virgin Mary and St. Stephen dominated he Kaptol area of the city. There was a church there in King Ladislas' time, as well as Romanesque cathedral which was badly damaged during the invasion of the Tatars. After a series of additions and renovations over the centuries, at the beginning of 20th century two slim neo-Gothic bell-towers were erected which today are a prominent part of the city's visual identity.
