We stayed here from 30 Dec 2011 to 1 January 2012.
This is truly an excellent hotel. Staff and service are just wonderful.
We were offered free use of sauna (24/7), which we didn't have the opportunity to use. Free wifi in the room too.
Location is great. It's just right across the train station and about 8 minutes walk to the downtown section.
The breakfast is great, too. They have some selections from the buffet table, but you may also order your choice of breakfast so it will get to you freshly cooked and smelling good.
The most wonderful thing was that we requested for a late check out of 3 pm and they allowed us up till 4pm to do so. (I know it's not the peak season, but I'd still never been extended such nice accommodations in my entire travel experience!)
Unique Quality: Our bathroom has separate rooms for toilet, shower and bathtub. It's truly 5 star!
I stayed at the Regent Esplanade Hotel during my 2 day stay in Zagreb in September 2010. It is a neo-classical style hotel built just next to the main railway station. It was originally built for passengers of the Orient Express train and today, it still lives up to its reputation of being one of the grand dame hotels.
It is a convenient hotel for both business and leisure being just beside the main railway station and tram stop.
Unique Quality: The room is impeccably furnished like all other Four Season Hotels complete with L'Occitane toileteries. The main restaurant is elegantly decorated. An ala carte hot breakfast is served in the restaurant. The service standard is impeccable and the staff are helpful and polite. It was a great experience to stay at the Esplanade Hotel.
Directions: Just next to the main railway station.
I have made a little search about where to stay in Zagrep. Most if the sites I hade reviewed got me through to The Regent. Then when I have checked with the "Goldpointplus" and this hotel was member of the system. Anyone can get membership through the internet and may get some discount. I have stayed here for Friday and Saturday night. Its a very nice historical hotel near to downtown. A lot of famous people had stayed here like presidents, polititians, celebrities. We realy have enjoyed staying here especially using marble bathrooms was very nice.
I strongly recoment this hotel.
Unique Quality: Location is by the main train station of Zagrep. You can walk to downtown in 15 min. There is a nice underground mall system at the around of corner.
My room number was 319 arrival 02.07 and departure 04.07.

Great location, with some suites offering lovely open
views.
The service is flawless, efficient and courteous without being overbearing.
Lovely cafes and restaurants, and you can taste their authentic struckli here, in the downstairs Le Bistro cafe with full height glass windows (conservatory-style) facing the north/main entrance elevation.
Unique Quality: Mouthwatering dishes in the Zinfandel restaurant, with views over the spacious east-facing terrace.
Beautiful Emerald ballroom, with an eye-catching central ceiling chandelier.
State-of-the-art fitness room with good CV machines, and a beautiful sauna.
I just loved the way the concierge is configured. Quite different, and very feels personal. See for yourself!
Directions: Adjacent to the main railway station, can't miss this large 6-storey building standing on its own from that elevation.
Parallel to King Tomislav's equestrian statue.
Hotel Esplanade is one of those hotels where the door is opened for you by a person dressed in a suit with a hat on. In front of a hotel there is a nice fountain.
Directions: Near the main train station, opposite King Tomislav Square
The Esplanade, the most famous hotel in Zagreb was built in 1925. It is perfectly located in the hearth of the city centre overlooking the historic nucleus of the city and providing a short walking distance to the business, cultural, shopping area and to the bars and restaurants. Considered among the world’s best hotels,it is just across the street from the Train Station, and back when the hotel was built, was a major stop on the Orient Express. Many famous had visited and guess in the hotel such as Yul Brinner, Orson Welles (who has a suite in the Esplanade named after him), Anthony Quinn, Stewart Granger, and Woody Allen or Charles Lindbergh, Josephine Baker, Louis Armstrong, Lawrence Olivier and Vivian Leigh, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, and the members of the Rolling Stones. And me , of course only as a visitor.
The Esplanade is conveniently located near the train station and is elegant from the outside, but room rates are really quite high (between Euro 170-350). There are two in-house restaurants and the room photos on their website look impressive. It has been around since 1925 and was designed by Croat architect Dionis Sunko.
Hotel "Esplanade" is under reconstruction right now. I spend several nights in months and years ago. It is good located and it's more expensive then the others (except "Sheraton"). Service is fantastic and the food is excellent.
Unique Quality: The hotel is under reconstruction.
The oldest hotel in Zagreb is the recently refurbished Esplanade at Mihanoviceva 1 (00 385 1 45 66 666; www.esplanade.tel.hr/esplanade, next to the station . It was built to accommodate passengers from the Orient Express, which used to stop in the city. Double rooms start at 1399 kunas (£116), without breakfast; there is a 30 per cent discount at weekends
