The beach where I spent most time was Lanta Beach. This is the next beach to Makronissos (towards the centre) and is much busier. The beach has fabulous soft sand, the bay is 2-3 times the size of Makronissos and there is access across sand into the sea along most of the length.
Even in mid-October the water was deliciously warm, and it's ideal for kids as it goes a long way out over sand without getting deep. Watch out for currents where it does get deeper, though (about 150m out). It does mean, though, for snorkelling, there is not a lot to see.
How shallow how far? Well in the picture, I sat on the sea floor to take it. The building is the Adams Beach Hotel, which is one of the top rated on the island.

After paying quite alot of money to stay at the Adams Beach Hotel we were quite disappointed. It is not to the standard of other 5* hotels that I have stayed in.
The Reception area and pool side was ok but the bedrooms were small, dark and dated.
There was a good selection of food at breakfast but I found the hot food to be quite tasteless.
I would no stay at this Hotel again.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Adams during the first week of September 2006. I had looked on the Adams Beach Hotel website, the pictures did not exactly blow me away and i was a bit concerned that we would be disappointed once we arrived.
The reception area was very impressive and the staff were very helpful getting us checked in. And the room was lovely. We had booked a superoir room (one of the cheaper ones) and it had a good sea view from the balcony.
The pools are amazing, with waterfalls and a nice pool bar. We did not have to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve our sunbeds because there are enough for everyone. There is a small beach area at the bottom of the hotel with crystal clear waters.
Ayia Napa is 5minutes in a cab. You could probably walk it but it would take atleast half an hour in the heat. Cabs are always hanging outside the hotel you will not have any problem getting a cab. If you do not want to go to Ayia Napa whilst all the partying is going on the 1st week in Sep is ideal as the square was strangley quiet just a few groups of people going out for meals.
Overall we had a great stay at Adams Beach would recommend it. Cyprus itself was lovely.

I got married at the adams beach hotel august this year. The wedding itself was fantastic, However the management of the hotel could of been more helpful. When we arrived we had a meeting with the wedding co ordinator and the hotel manager to discuss our wedding, When we got around to arrange our reception (we had 30 guests staying with us ) All we were ofered was a small area by the pool whilst the evening mini disco was going on next to us. I asked for something a bit more private and he said there were 2 other wedding receptions and that was all he could offer. I found ths most upsettting and was clearly upset , he then continued to ask about meal options assuming i was just going t acept it. hardly the nice romantic setting i had dreamed of. In the end i told him that i did no want it and would do my own thing! Things happen for a reason we ended up booking a luxury catmaran , transport to the vessel all drinks and food was included and the experience was truly amazing could not have asked for anything better.
The hotel itself is lovely the settings are beautiful, meals very nice although can get boring after 1st week. There is too many nice restaurants to sample in Ayia Napa, reccommend going bed and breakfast. The pool area is great for kids , whom were always happily playing.
The hotel has a fantastic spa which visited a few times definately cheaper to book packages in resort not as i did and pre paid for. the rooms are lovely although iI woud not of been happy in a standard room they were tiny and decor a bit drab the executive rooms much better and most have sid sea view.
If you are getting married here I would def be prepared , to be flexible about your evening recepion there are loads of optins other than th hotel the wedding c ordinators are fantastic they will arrange everything from a hairdresser in your room to booking a luxury yacht.
Wedding Was Wonderful!!!!

We booked our wedding 15months prior to the date and I booked this hotel due to the reports and right up it had on it. (also it is now my husbands name...Adam) I work for Thomas cook and when you work in travel you only want the best which it was by far. We wanted to get married in Cyprus in may or sept time as we had a young child and making it slightly cooler temp wise and we wanted 5Star as it was our wedding. Our daughter was 13months at the time and wanted a 5star that catered for children as well. We had 49 guests at our wedding only 13 of them staying in the adams beach due to budgets, meal basis, location etc. The staff were very helpful and the wedding co-ordinator made everything possible, the rooms were very spacious and clean and carpets in room which was ideal for our daughter if she fell as only started walking then. Bedding and towels changed every second day. Food was excellent a large variety to chose from especially a kids section. Our wedding in the Adams Beach Chapel led to the beach for photographs then the gardens for futher photos, followed by a champagne and drinks reception in the piano bar then on to the taverna which we had the whole restuarant to ourselves and there was a wide range of buffet for everyone to help themselves to and we ended the evening by a disco in there as we hired a dj.
For people looking for a wedding in cyprus you def wont be disappointed by this hotel as it is very costly but perfect. After all if 49 guests and myself husband and daughter has a fab time then believe me you will to....
We also returned for our 1st wedding anniversary to recieve champgane and free room upgrade and we recieve Xmas cards from the hotel which makes us feel appreciated and reflect back to our special day.
I have also booked customers of mine to get married in the Adams Beach and to go on Holiday too, suits all ages and requirements.....Get Booking without delay....Ignore the bad reports on this was shocked at them as I couldn't fault this hotel, the only remarks in negative feed back that was right was there was no tea/coffee making facilities but I don't drink tea/coffee in the heat especailly as warm as cyprus.
We had a great holiay

We stayed at the adams beach Sept 2004...as we arrived we were impressed by the front entrance of the hotel....further more we had been given a free upgrade but i had already paid for a sea view.....our room was fab..there was 5 of us mum dad nan and 2 boys aged 14 and 10 our rooms were joined together by 1 door...it was fab..air con was great room service was great.....but i must admit we did manage to get a nice guy from reception who always looked after us.....most other staff are a bit cold. The location is great the pools are great.....i think b/b is enough as there is lots of nice restaurants to choose from on the road at the back of the hotel. I think Aiya Napa is so for the young ones very run down place and full of drunks and i mean drunks. And as for the weddings at Adams beach yes its very nice if your getting married.....but if your just mr & mrs average wanting a nice holiday...its a bit in your face.....sometimes it felt like sod you we are looking after our wedding parties...i think that is how it has gone.....they have chose the money route,, its a shame as the hotel is great. They need to find that happy medium. We did have a great holiday the kids still talk about it now.....i think we were lucky got nice rooms.sun beds not a problem....but we did go in Sept....and i did keep my kids out of school....something i would not normaly do......but my husband had just finished 22yrs in the army and this was our family hoilday to celebrate that. as to returning.....yes i would but sept or june would be the time...I think i fancy protaras next......i did visit there seems very nice all that i know my lotwould like.

Arrived April 1st having booked a family room. Room was shabby, dirty and uninviting. Unit with T.V. in was dirty with spilt drinks down the side and front. Glass top on bedside table between beds had a chunk of glass missing (adjacent to bed in which our son was to sleep). Bedcovers old and shabby. Bathroom door both sides wood, peeling, split and mildew. We didn't unpack and asked to be moved - given room next door which also was shabby. Went outside to look at pools etc. One pool had sunbeds lined up around it to stop anyone from going in it - but you really wouldn't want to, as it was green and you couldn't see the bottom of the pool. Other pools were dirty, debris floating on the top, peeling paint, dirty grills around edges and a film of oil floating on the surface. The children's slides werehttp://www.tripadvisor.com/Images-g263853-b1939965T-Children_s_slide_being_painted.jpg
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Images-g263853-b1939965T-Children_s_slide_being_painted.jpg out of use, filthy and the steps up to them were being painted! Area next to slides and bar area was being painted.
Evening meal, we ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio (CY£17.50, all wines at least that price) but they didn't have any, so we had a Soave(also CY£17.50). Food poor choice, luke warm, tasted like it had been prepared hours earlier, more like food in a 2*, definately not 5* cuisine. After meal went to bar area, someone playing piano, music sounded like there was about to be a funeral. Ordered drinks, one being a Dry Ginger but unbelievably they didn't have any!
Contacted holiday rep and asked to be moved - we went to the Olympic Lagoon Resort down the road which was fantastic - helpful staff, fabulous room, wonderful food and the wine was CY£6.00 a bottle! So we moved from a 5* to a 4* but it was a hundred times better than the Adams Beach.

"Cyprus"
Swimming in the water and exploring the caves was amazing. Having a bottle of red wine with a loved one as the sun was setting made this place paradise.
"Adams Beach Hotel"
The place was comfortable, cheap and clean. Really great breakfasts.

Opinions seem to be pretty divided on the first site. Best way is to ignore the best and worst (there are often other reasons for these) and make a judgement from those in the middle.
Driving in Cyrprus is not difficult at all, imo (assuming you are used to driving on the left). But drive defensively......not everyone sticks to the rules, and one cannot assume one has right of way even if one does......and watch out for potholes, because not all roads are in good condition.

hi, i go to ayia napa and protaras all the time. driving there is just like in the uk. i hope you got a car with air conditioning ha ha. adams beach hotel is only one and a half to 2 miles from the centre of ayia napa. there are bars and restaurants across the road from the hotel. nissi beach is beautiful but you should also see fig tree bay in protaras and konnos beach near cape greco.
