License for Motor bikes / Scooters

by ace_dubai

Hey all VT'ers!

Do I need to have a scooter driving license to rent a scooter in Larnaca/Ayia Napa?

All I have is an International Driver's license for a light motor vehicle.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

regards, nayeem

No actually you don't. You can use your drivers lisence as well if it's a scooter you want to rent. You need a special lisence only if you want to rent a large motorcycle (more than 150cc). Enjoy, but be very careful as we drive on the left in Cyprus, not on the right and car drivers tend not to pay a lot of attention when it comes to motorcycle drivers. I ride one myself, so I know:)

Yes - the Cypriot drivers are nutters - they often come out of a side road on the left without stopping for motorists on the main road.

Look after yourself - assume all the other drivers are blind and/or drunk and you will stay safer.

Travel Tips for Ayia Napa

Scuba Diving

by ratherton

Sunfish Divers are a 5 Star PADI dive centre based in Ayia Napa. I took my PADI Underwater Photographer speciality course here and the instructor was also a professional photographer.

I felt totally comfortable with these guys. The only complaint was the lack of marine life (compared to places like the Red Sea) but that's not really their fault. To prove the integrity of these guys, I'll share this experience with you.

My course cost about CY£60 and I used my own equipment. I stupidly managed to leave my regulators in Cyprus. These guys arranged to have them sent to me in Sweden at a cost of CY£24. I contacted them when the regs arrived to arrange payment.

The equipment was worth of US$1500 so I was a very relieved traveller when I got them back.

One for the Hardcore

by Holmezzi about Insomnia

This is the place to go if you are hardcore! It opens at 5am in the morning and shuts at about 9 or 10am!! The first hour was always the hardest to get through but if you could manage it, then you were off! The garage stars (Heartless Crew, Pay As You Go, Slimzee, Roll Deep the list goes on) had there after parties at, its cool as they would just mingle with the crowd!! Smart & Sexy!

The church of Profitis Elias

by globetrott

The church of the prophet Elias in Protaraswas built on top of a small hill not far from Cape Greco, you will find a small carpark there and hundreds of steps taking you uphill to the tiny chapel, that looks interesting from inside as well. From the church-terrace you will have a great view of the area and you will also see some trees there, decorated in a very special way, see my next tip !

Black & White - Day & Night

by Maeniel

"The Town of Contrasts."

Ayia Napa (Agia Napa) is a town that suits everybody. The reason for this is because that it changes completely depending on the time of day.

By Day: A sleepy fishing village. The main spots to see at this time of day are all on the beach and in the restaurants. This place is geared almost completely towards the tourist industry, and this will show with your lack of 'traditional' activities. You will, however, find watersports and other holiday sports in abundance. Best considered a quiet place during the day, with emphasis on relaxation and is suitable, though not ideal, for families.

By Night: This is where Ayia Napa shows it famous / infamous side. The neon lights come on, the music can be heard all over the place, and the drink starts to flow. The clubs will try to entice you in, and it becomes crowded as the party-goers hit the streets. Clubs and Bars are THE entertainment at this time.
