More about Sunrise Beach Hotel

I cannot believe the bad reviews of this hotel!

by TripAdvisor Member Wimples

My most recent visit to the Sunrise Beach hotel was in September 2006, probably the 10th time I have visited this excellent hotel.

The location is superb, right on the beach and just about far enough away from the main strip so you aren't bothered by noise and lights at night time.

The staff simply could not be more helpful, nothing is too much trouble and they endevour to make sure you are well looked after and happy. The manager, Kyriakos, regularly wanders round the lobby area, making sure all of his guests are happy.

Although some of the rooms are slightly dated, they are very clean and comfortable, bedding is changed daily and the bathrooms are immaculate. The hotel is upgrading a good number of its rooms during the winter.

Finally, the pool area is a delight, the sunbed allocation system means that you can get up late and still have your choice of sunbed, you can go on an excursion and your bed will still be free for you to use. We tend to email the hotel before we go and they make sure we have a sunbed by the pool for the duration of our stay.

We have booked again for this year, when we are getting married. We can think of nothing better than spending the happiest day of our lives in one of our favourite places!

Brilliant wedding and honeymoon

by TripAdvisor Member fergy08

We went to the Sunrise Beach Hotel on 27 June 2007 for our wedding which took place in the hotel on 5 July. This was our first time at this hotel and in cyprus and would definitely be back.

The staff in the hotel were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, the room was cleaned daily and new towels provided every day.

The hotel was beautiful and had a central location right on the beach. We paid a bit extra for a sea view room, which was well worth it. It was lovely to wake up to every morning and to sit and have a glass of wine as the sun went down.

We stayed bed and breakfast, and the breakfast was lovely, so much choice for every one and you can have as much as you want.

The hotel also has a sunbed allocation system and you have the same beds for the length of your stay. Really good idea, we had beds right beside the pool and beach towels were provided every day in the room.

As for the wedding, we couldn't have picked a better location, the photos were absolutely gorgeous. In the hotel, you can either get married outside or in the sea view room. We chose the sea view room which had air conditioning, a god send at this time of year, and the room was also a bit more private.

Overall, had a brilliant time and will definitely go back in the future.

Nice but some down sides

by TripAdvisor Member dup

We stayed at the Sunrise Beach hotel at the beginning of October for 11 nights, bed and breakfast.

The hotel itself is very nice and our room was very comfortable and clean. Sheets were changed every other day and towels daily if needed. However, we were situated on floor 2 on the return side of the hotel, which meant we couldn't keep the curtains open due to the balconys adjacent to us being able to look directly into the room. The bathroom towels are VERY small, however the bathroom itself was always cleaned to a high standard.

The breakfast is very good and there isn't anything you can think of that they do not provide. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

We were very surprised to find that the pool beds are booked by a reservation system. On our first day, we went down to the pool to get beach/pool towels to be told "the pool is full". He told us there were a couple of beds free in the garden, however the pool was fully booked.

So, we decided to spend the day on the beach in front of the hotel. This we would not recommend. The beach itself is very dirty littered with cigarette ends, rubbish, cartons, etc, and in the evening, the beds on the beach are not returned to an organised fashion, they are just left as is. However, the sea is crystal blue and clear.

The main strip outside the hotel is ok, there are many bars (quite loud if you don't like that kind of thing). Most the bars had acts on each evening around 10pm, so you can go out for a meal and back to the hotel if you don't want to go to the bars. The restaurants and staff are mainly very pleasant, and if you go back a second time, they are even more welcoming than the first!!

However, I would not recommend the restaurant "Il Basilico" which is located directly opposite the hotel. We had the most awful meal and the service and hospitality was of a very low standard which was completely in contrast to the most other places we ate. The "China Garden" restaurant was ok, but VERY expensive for what you get. We would recommend two particular restauarants which are "Olympus" and "The Corner Flambe" restaurant right at the end of the main strip.

We found the reception staff very friendly and very helpful and informative. The reception and bar area is very nice, however the prices at the bar are very expensive and the service is very slow. If you want to go to the hotel for evening entertainment, this is not the hotel to go to!

Overall we had a fantastic hotel, but for the amout of money we paid for the holiday, we won't be returning to this hotel again.

Great Hotel, great place

by TripAdvisor Member Taws

We stay in this hotel on honeymoon. Great location, beautiful view from room to garden. Easy reservation system for camp bed for all holiday. Amazing breakfast, but special for people from UK :) Hotel crew was great and we are very satisfaction. Thanks all hotel crew for beautiful holiday.

shabby & dated

by TripAdvisor Member EdinaCloud

We stayed at Sunrise Beach for two weeks in October, we had lovely weather. We were disappointed by the standard of the room, the carpets were stained, the beds very hard, & the shower leaked over the floor. We spoke to the rep from the tour operator next day & she arranged for us to change to another room, as this room had a side sea view we had to pay cyp£90 to change, the beds in this room were also hard, so the hotel put mattress toppers on which was an improvement, but the room was still rather tired & dated, there were holes in the walls in the bathroom where fittings had been removed. The disadvantage of this room was that we could hear the dreadful singer in the bar across the road every evening, if you are not a night owl this isn't the place for you. We were charged cyp£3 per day to use the ancient fridge in the room, which would have been running anyway whether we had paid for it or not, we spoke to an elderly couple who were paying for the fridge because the lady was diabetic & needed to keep her insulin cold. our cleaner told us the hotel is being refurbished during winter, it certainly isn't 4 star standard at present
We were on B&B, breakfast was ok, but I would have liked there to have been fresh fruit on offer, apart from melon & oranges the fruit was all tinned, also the orange juice was watery.
We liked the variety of restaurants, especially Andama, the Corner, Romeos (very good for the Greek night with dancing etc., although we had a fish meze one night which was disppointing), Georgios & Erato (good 3 course set menu £6.45). Floras cocktail bar good for cheap cocktail £1 a go! We also liked Vassos fish taverna by the harbour in Ayia Napa. If you want to go on trips use local agents several offices on the strip, we went to Farmagusta, very interesting.

A great hotel

by TripAdvisor Member fieldmills

Me and my Boyfriend stayed at this hotel at the end of August on bed and breakfast, and had a really great time.

The resort isn't the kind of place where we would normally go but my best friend was getting married in the resort.

When we arrived we were greeted at reception by the courteous staff and our bags were taken to our room, when we arrived in our room it was quite big and clean, if a little dated (but this didnt put us off as it was clean, what more could you want?) and also we put this on the comment card and they sent us a nice letter telling us that they are in the process of updating the rooms. also the maids that cleaned the rooms were perfect, always clean, made beds, clean bathroom and fresh towels when we needed them.

The hotel operates a allocation of sunbeds on arrival, such a good idea, we were given sunbeds in the garden and asked to be moved which they gladly did the next day once someone else had gone home to right by the pool! most pleased!

the pool area was clean and staff were helpful, the entertainment staff member (there was only one) seemed to have the children entertained most days and even roped us in to a game of darts.

the breakfast at the hotel were great, so much choice and you could have as much as you wanted, was very pleased with the breakfast.

we only ate dinner once at the hotel, it was a themed night and a buffet, it was really good food and worth the money.

the hotel is right in the middle of the strip, so not much walking to be done, and once you shut the door of a night you couldnt hear any of the noise from the street which was great.

would stay here again and recommend this hotel to others as the hotel is nice and right on the beach which was handy as everyday for us was spent snorkling looking at the fishys or by the pool!

Superb, best hotel ive stayed at!

by TripAdvisor Member bpmuk

This hotel was spectacular. My girlfriend and i have already booked up for next year. Our sea view room was stunning, breakfast was great, location was brilliant, with a bus stop just right outside perfect for going to Ayia Napa.

Only 1 bad thing. It cost too much to hire the fridge. Apart from that........Stunning!

excellent hotel

by TripAdvisor Member 3busketeers

just returned from this hotel where our daughter got married and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were magnificent and could not do enough for us (especially Martina who is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and did a great job as waitress and bar host) nothing was a trouble to any of them.
The wedding was organised perfectly with excellent food -we had a buffet in the afternoon and a 5 course meal in the evening for 21 people and they catered very well for everyone including vegetarian.
The rooms /beds were very comfortable and recently refurbished
and they allocated all our rooms together on the same floor.
they were adding a new bar (Reef bar) in the hotel and although it wasn't due to open until Saturday they put extra staff on to ensure it was opened for our wedding party on the wednesday.
anyone booking for this hotel will not be disappointed.
only downside was the fridge in the room was switched on but locked - to use it you pay a charge of about £3 per day .
The resort was excellent with plenty of choice for eating/drinking
The italiano was the best with a 3 course set meal of £6.95 cyp

Very nice hotel

by TripAdvisor Member salsalady

WE have just returned on Sunday from Sunrise Beach, and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. I had read so many negative reviews about, rusty fridges, hard beds, shabby towels, surly pool attendants, and was really pleased to find that I encountered none of these problems.......

We were in room 222, which had a side sea view and a direct view of the gardens where all the weddings piccies were taken.

Our room had been refurbed to a very high standard.....very nice tiled floors in main room, beautiful bedding which matched the curtains..........none of this white sheets and mis- matched quilts etc.....we had lovely pale blue sheets which were changed every other day.........

The bathroom was done out very nice, very impressive shower, lovely marble floor and very nice wall tiles. Bath towels were large, white and very fluffy...(none of these small shabby towels I had read about).....the towels were changed daily........

The fridge was okay, not massive, but you could fit half a dozen bottles of water, and a couple of bottles of milk in it.....When we checked in we were expecting to pay £3CY per day for fridge, but she said she would only charge us for 5 days, i.e. £15, so in fact it was only £2 per day really........

They did charge us £1 per day for the safe, but I felt this was worth it.........

The pool attendant was very helpful, there were 2 guys, one Cypriot, very nice, and another (Scandinavian?russian???). Anyway, I asked for sunbeds by pool and were told there were none at all for the whole week, until I told him I had emailed, at which point he produced a file full of emails and when he found mine, he straight away offered us a choice of about 6 different locations around the that was easy must email before you go!!!

The breakfast buffet was really nice.......bacon eggs etc....lots of fresh fruits (only the peaches were tinned).......pastries, croissants, donuts (yum yum), muffins.........lots of different types of cereals, and of course toast...........all of this was self service, except for the important part....the coffee....the waiters give you large jugs of coffee, and will replace them when requested.....

We were only on B&B, but had 1 evening meal (the BBQ buffet).very good value for money £12 was excellent......

Entertainment: Daytime...........usual stuff........aqua aerobics, water volleyball, water polo........

Evening:.........Not bad, but not great..........on Tuesday nights there's a singer called Nick, he was very good, got the audience to participate..was a good evening.........

other nights, there was a magic show with fire.......bit naff...hotel manager was looking on nervousy watching the smoke alarms, waiting for them to go off........a group of dancers (who didnt turn up til almost 11pm!!) a lot of people had given up and gone out.....

MY only gripe is the price of the drinks..........a small bottle of water (500ml) was £1.30.....and even if you had the 1 litre bottle, there was no saving there, it cost £2.60.......... one night I had a large Baileys and they charge me £6.60!!!! which equates to almost £8 STG.........

But price drinks aside, I thoroughly enjoyed it there, and would definately go again.......but this time I would book direct.....

FINAL THOUGHT.......... It gives Capo Bay a run for its money!!

Brilliant place to go highly recommended

by TripAdvisor Member UkMacca

This hotel is excellent staff very friendly and professional and had sunbeds allocated on arrival and they are yours for the whole of the stay so that takes all the stress of getting up at the crack of dawn to get one, went bed and breakfast and the food was lovely, also hotel is right on the beach, would recommend getting a sea view well worth the extra money going back in August this year for the third time cannot wait!!!
