Our Second Trip to Cyprus in Protaras
We came back the following year to Protaras as we for the first time had a getaway holiday with friends, and Protaras came up that suited us all for the time we wanted to go. Our friends had not been before and thought we would not want to go again but we said we would as we really liked it there. So the six of us boarded our plane and had a great time.
We stayed in The Artemis Hotel, again a small hotel not much entertainment but when there is a group of you, you make your own! It was our first time all going away together and we all felt we didn't have to act our ages as we didn't have our grown up kids to put us right!
We just had a nice chilled out time and lazed around the pool during the day. The beach was a bit of a walk so we mostly stayed around the pool.
We hired a 4x4 for a couple of days and ventured out and did the Troodos Mountains again, well for my husband and I anyway. Well instead of being scared out my wits end this time it was more funny, and our husbands did all the driving and even they would not go off the beaten track like we got taken to last year. The drive was great and we stopped alot to admire the breathtaking views of the mountains. We also stopped in one of the little villages and had lunch and brought some lace off the locals. Such lovely people and always smiling.
We did a day trip into Nicosia and done some shopping and also viewed some of the bombed parts of the city at the green line from the Turkish Invasion in 1974.
We also went to view Famagusta at the green line. There are certain lookout points you can go to, to view it. That was an experience, it was so quite and quite earie. You could ony imagine what went on there.
We also on our last day hired bikes for the day and toured around the different beaches, what a great way to top your tan up before you go home!
"Nicosia the only divided city in the world"
I took this photo from the buffer zone of Nicosia, you are allowed to take photos and view the bombed parts of the city and is patrolled by the UN Troops.
This was taken from the look out point at the green line in Protaras.
