disappointing stay

we recently returned from the above hotel feeling extremely let down and feeling that we would never return to the Anastasia Beach Hotel. This should have been a fantastic holiday as following 2 years of planning for our wedding and honeymoon, we thought that nothing could go wrong. That unfortunately was not the case. We requested a side sea view, instead we got a view that looked onto the side of another building! also even when asked if it could be changed, we were told that all the rooms with side view had been taken - this was not good enough - especially as it was also paid for!
the meals were ok if you liked the same food every day for a fortnight. In the end, we (our party of 6) spend most of the time eating out and paying again for meals as we just werent impressed with what was being offered. This was more annoying especially as we paid for all inclusive. I would advise any traveller going to the Anastasia Beach Hotel not to go all inclusive, there are plenty of good restaurants around. One I would definitely recommend is Diva's in Protaras, totally outstanding. The staff cannot do enough for you. We had our wedding reception there and thought it was that good that we returned several days later to celebrate my new husbands 40th birthday.
As for the rooms at the Anastasia Beach, the maids kept them very clean and could not fault them, however, the size were nothing to shout home about.
The entertainment was dire - i felt very sorry for the Thomas Cook staff as they had to do the entertainment themselves, which with no disrespect to them, was terrible. Again it was the same this every evening for the kids, which i am sure they enjoyed, but unfortunately, none of them were born entertainers and so spent most nights either going out of the hotel or going back to our room to our sudoku books!
Overall, was pleased to come home and celebrate out marriage properly as we felt that we couldnt do that at the hotel as we had too many Germans complaining about us!!!
For those of you that are going to the Anastasia Beach in the near future, I hope you have a better time than what myself and family had. Our holiday should have been something out of this world but instead was more like a nightmare.
Good luck to you all
Very disgruntled traveller!.
Don't Go To The Standard Apts
by TripAdvisor Member Emma12345
We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Anastasia Beach, in Protaras Cyprus. We booked a standard apartment as these didn't sound too bad they were rated a 3 star and usually 3 stars are ok. My advise DON'T. The standard apts were not even called Anastasia beach apts they were called Ausonia apts, we even nicknamed them the dungeons. They are right over the back and are shabby with a long walk to even get a drink which is not very appropriate when we paid to go all inclusive. All meals and drinks have to be taken in the hotel. The superior apartments are of a good standard though. We complained to the rep and got upgraded to the hotel. These rooms were nice but still i would not reccomend this as a 4* star hotel. The food was Ok but got a bit repetative with the same meals on the same day of the week. The entertainment was TERRIBLE! There was no entertainment for the children unless there were more that 7 children on the stage and no kids club. Even when there was a mini disco this lasted all of 15mins. Then it was a game of bingo, half an hours show and then a CD and all entertainment was instide and when you are on holiday you don't want to sit inside all of the time. The best part of the holiday was the weather and i will not be going back there again, SUMMARY:
The hotel was dated and not a 4* hotel
The Entertainment was rubbish (even tho the entertainment staff worked hard)
The food was repetative
The bar and restaurant staff were rude
The cleaners didn't clean the rooms
A lot of things went missing out of rooms
There was building work going on just at the bottom of the pool
the beach is nothing but rocks with a dusting of sand
The pool is right on a main road and
The music in the bar opoposite was playing till 4am
Abolutely loved it

I have just come back from staying 2 weeks in the Anastasia beach apartments with my boyfriend. I can honestly say that it is the best holiday i have ever been on.
Ill start with the apartments, they say they can fit up to 4, although it was perfect for the two of us with a large bedroom, huge lounge and kitchenette. we had a problem with our air conditioning on the first night and they moved us straight away to a new room with no fuss or anything.
There is a choice of 2 pools, a smaller quieter pool for relaxing and soaking up the sun or there is the main pool which is buzzing and full of fun, with daily activities run by the reps.
We stayed all inclusive and it was fantastic. the food was amazing there was a lot of choice, or you could have your sausage chips and beans if you so wished! its local spirits only included in the package but it was fantastic and the cocktails were great. the bar staff were amazing, very very friendly and couldnt do more to make your daytime and evening better. Sadly after midnight the all inclusive package stops which was such a shame because everyone gets on so well and you make some really great people which makes you want to stay up all night talking!!!
if you are not all inclusive, or if you want a change of scenery for food there is still a lot of choice. There are two chineses and one indian (if you could cope with a curry in the heat!!) but a place that i just had to write about was a restaurant called the "Blue Spice" you cant miss it as it is directly outside the hotel. there is not one bad word i could say about this restaurant the service is fantastic the food is outstanding and its really very reasonable cost. we ate there a couple of times just because the choice of food was so good! there are some classic greek style dishes as well as a large range of meats and fish and the deserts i would recommend the after eight ice cream :0)
the thomas cook entertainment team were fantastic, full of energy and took time to talk to and get to know the guests at every opportunity. Evening shows were not exactly broadway but if you are on holiday for a laugh you will certainly certainly get that its such a happy relaxed atmosphere.
The maid service is wonderful, i know on previous holidays i've been in the room when the maid comes to clean and they just leave a change of towels outside the door, well these lovely ladies will come back later, even up to about 5pm if necessary! and theyre so friendly when you walk past them in the corridor they say heyand you can have a conversation with them easily
its also in a wonderful location, there is a small beach just outside the hotel, its not fabulous but if you want some sand and some sea and a sunbed close to the bar then its perfect! but there are two main beaches one about 5 minutes walk to the left and fig tree bay about 10 minutes walk to the right. fig tree bay is fantastic its a lovely beach and there are lots of activities to do, we went jet skiing and paragliding and its fairly reasonable cost, although there are many places to do this all around the coastline at similar prices.
we went with thomas cook and there were plenty of trips to take. there is a one day or two day trip to egypt which we didnt go on but heard some wonderful things about it. we took a trip to the market at larnaca and the camel park. it was about 10 cypriat pounds but we didnt rate it too much, the market was quite nice and we got a few bits but nothing you couldnt get in thelocal supermarkets or souvenir shops. the camel park was quite fun camel rides for everyone and if you didnt want to look around there was a pool and a cafe.
we also took the sunset catamaran which i would thoroughly recommend it was lovely you set off along the coastline, they provide dinner and champagne and then put the sail up whilst everyone watches the beautiful sunset.
i think ive covered most of it!! if you have any questions please contact me, i had the best time oh and it was 42 degrees everyday... leaving me with one lovely golden tan to come home and show off!!!!

Generally good

We stayed for 10 days over Easter 2007. Hotel reception area is exactly as shown on the website - very attractive, although lots of people smoke in this area, so it's not always appealing. Service and staff were excellent. Rooms were cleaned and made up every day with fresh towels. The outdoor swimming pool was absolutely freezing and sadly did not get much use over Easter. Food was generally good (could improve with a bit of imagination). We did get bored with the selection after a week and tried the Blue Spice restaurant across the road which was excellent. The Thomas Cook entertainment team were very good. They worked hard every day, and we did enjoy the first few days but again we did get bored with the same type of format and smokiness of the bar and started buying DVDs for the evening. We used Grabthatcab to get us to and from the airport - and can recommend them. We also took a local taxi to Paralimni - some good restaurants there and some interesting shops. Bus trip to Larnaca took about an hour and we found it abit touristy, preferred Paralimni. The beach closest to the hotel is tiny and rocky but there is a better one within walking distance. We had a very pleasant and relaxing holiday which is exactly what we were looking for.

We stayed in the appartment on an all inclusive package. Rooms clean, towles changed daily bedding changed mid week.
All facilities were in the hotel which was a minutes walk away.
Food was excellent with plenty of choice. Non stop all day if you wanted to eat. Plenty of hot and cold drinks and ice cream for children. Entertainment of some kind through out the day and evening. Eg water polo. Disco for kids and show by entertainers later in the evening.
The surrounding area was very quite due to it being Easter Hols. Not a lot was open or available to do. Beach was near by not very nice. I would recommend the Hotel/Appartments but do not go during the Eater period. Also weather was not very good.

Be careful ! there is a sister hotel behind the anastasia hotel which we where put in which was not what we where shown in the brochure. This is misleading to say the least this part of the hotel is substandard to the other part of the hotel. We therefore had to upgrade and pay extra for the privelege to stay in the part we originally booked from the brochure. This part of the hotel is very good and the food is very good the entertainment of an evening is poor.
Cyprus in january
by rob-craig
"Cyprus is closed in january !"
We travelled to Protaras for 2 weeks all inclusive package deal to the Anastasia beach hotel on 8th January 2003,this was my first time here and we thoroughly enjoyed it.However we came for decent weather, peace + quiet and a bit of sightseeing we were not dissapointed, any of you out there looking for the action here at this time of year forget it because basically "Cyprus is closed in january !"
This is when all building work ,repairs and roadswork is done we saw a few bar owners painting their property also a 400m stretch of the main 'strip' in Protaras was completley dug up whilst new service pipes were being laid.
"Scenery"
Dont let the picture above put you off Cyprus truly is a charming land full of beautiful scenery ,culture and history with the most welcoming hospitality anywhere

Hello,
I would say that it's about half an hour from LCA to Protaras, maybe 45 minutes.
