More about Kouzalis Beach Hotel
lovely honeymoon at the kouzalis beach hotel
we have just returened from our honeymoon stay at the kouzalis beach hotel and we had a great time striaght from arrival.
we had an upgraded room on arrival with wine and fruit, the room was massive and very clean and at least a tripple sized balcony over looking the pool and lovely garden and out to the sea.
the staff throught our stay were very friendly and very helpfull and very efficent in the restraunt. the food was nice and there was something for everyone at all meal times.
entertainment during the day was ok if you were into aqua swim or organised games of water polo etc but the evening entertainment was poor and i would say aimed more at older people. with mr magic being so bad he was quite funny, the bar could do with some music at all times as it was a bit lacking in atmosphere but great for people watching. there is a great bus service just outside the hotel into protaris (which we found to be very reliable not like some other reviews )where the entertainment in protaris is a lot better at night well as long as you like elvis....
overall this is a very good hotel offering a great holiday with great facilities,i feel some people on here have been very critical of this place,it is not an ulra all inclusive place in mexico by any means but if thats the sort of thing your after the go to mexico if you are after a very nice clean hotel with no kids just out of town to be quiet but close enough to go for a drink at night then the kouzalis is the place to go. thanks to all the staff who made our honeymoon so good.
My partner and I have just returned from a week here and I can honestly say its not a place I would recommend.
The food was awful. The mix of main courses was quite bizarre so I thought fill up on desert. Ah ha well the choice of desserts was creme caramel that didn't taste of anything and the chef thought that if he set it one day in a oblong tin and another day in a round tin we might be fooled into thinking it was another dessert (still it tasted of nothing). Two different colour jellies, icecream and something else that was supposed to be rice pudding. I think Gordon Ramsey would call him a ding dong chef (put it in the microwave and wait for the ping). We got talking to another couple there and they told us the secret eat the snacks at 4pm they are much better( jacket potatoes and cakes!!!!)
Now for the entertainment if you could call it that.
The first problem is it doesn't start untill 10pm and is held in the main resturant. The atmosphere is non exsistent. I think they have booked every reject from butlins. If you have seen the episode in Only Fools and Horses were Del boy books the singing dustman to sing with Rachel, Well he is alive and singing in the Kouzalis Beach Hotel.
Second problem. They have a girl playing a piano two nights a week in the main bar, if you have trouble sleeping go in there and you will have no problem noding off. The waiter and waitress service is intermitent some times they take your glass and ask if you would like another drink and then some times they take you glass and say nothing.
The animation team (all two of them bless them) tried their best to entertain us in the day around the pool.
I ask for an iron and was handed some thing that was black underneath heath and safety would have had a field day.
Now for the good bit. The room and bathroom was spotless.
Middle of the road
Kouzalis Beach hotel is technically in an area called Penera which is basically now a suburb of Protaras. Yes it is pretty much in the backend of nowhere, but then it caters for the all inclusive market so therefore you could argue that it doesn't need to be in the hub of everything exciting. You can walk into Pernera, however it is a little longer than the suggested 15 mins (nearer 30!), but is do-able in the evening or in the cooler months. In Pernera you'll find an array of tourist shops and restaurants etc.
There is a bus that stops right outside the hotel and costs 80c to get anywhere from paralimni to ayia napa - they run at about every 20-30mins depending on the time of day. However… be aware that they run on Cypriot time which could mean you’ll be waiting for up to an hour, or you could wait only 10 mins J
Taxis aren’t too bad either with a taxi costing about cy£10 to get to aiya napa which is approximately 15/20km away from the hotel.
The hotel itself is clean, the staff amenable although some of the receptionists come across as a little harsh but I think this is more to do with them trying to work out what you’re asking for.
Rooms are a standard size, with the bathrooms having very good showers. To be honest, it isn’t worth paying for a side sea view as you will potentially end up on the side next to some apartment blocks and the service road. If you insist on having the balcony door open, then yes this will be noisy but to be honest you’d get a better nights sleep closing it and having the a/c on.
Food is okay. It is edible, and was the expected temperature (i.e. hot and cold when it should be). It wasn’t to my taste, but about what you’d expect from an A/I hotel. You do have the option of upgrading to a la carte for I think cy£4/p.p.p.n. Drinks are suitably large measures, and there is a good selection. Desserts are okay, but the baklavas (local delicacies) are fantastic!! Snacks look good although didn’t sample any.
Pool is reasonably large and while you shouldn’t be swimming in there when it is technically off limits, if it’s light then they turn a blind eye so you can have an early swim. There is an indoor pool too which is a more regular shape and I should imagine very quiet in the summer! There is plenty of poolside space, but a lack of loungers and parasols for everyone that would want one. There isn’t really enough shade either for people that want to be in the warm, but not in the glare of the sun. The beach is small, but very pretty and is shared with the neighbouring hotel. One big point here is that if you are slightly unsteady on your feet, be careful about attempting to swim here as there is a ridge of rocks about 3/4ft into the water which you can avoid by swimming over going out to sea, but invariably hit when you go to walk out with the sun in your eyes. I’d invest in a pair of those climbing type shoe things that you can buy form the shops nearby that allow you to swim, but protect your feet from sharp things.
I would recommend this hotel if it was on a cheap deal – I wouldn't want to pay full price for it. Unfortunately it is graded of the European standard of star ratings which means that its stars are based on its facilities rather than the whole package (like customer service etc.)
Useful places and things to know:
You can see the ghost town of Famagusta from the hotel.
Make a point of eating out at least once – there is a fantastic restaurant next door, and another one down the road (and obviously more in the next town/s – one of which is the Red Indian on the made road through Protaras as it is fantastic there).
There is a company called ‘Trekkers’ that is down the road and who appear to be used by most of the reps in the area that we would highly recommend to use for excursions into the mountains, and they can take you into Famagusta and Salamis etc. A word of warning though – the troodoos trip is not for the faint hearted!
There are two supermarkets within 100 meters of the hotel and are better value than the shops in the hotel.
Pay the extra amount for the VIP catamaran that is run by inter-yaugting (catamaran mediterraneo) – there is half the people on board that there normally is, free booze, no children and a fantastic lunch. A very professional outfit.
A visit to water world is a must too – get there early though to get a good spot and avoid huge crowds. The bus takes you right into the park.
Visit the north, and take a trip that takes you right into the town of Famagusta. The twilight Zone doesn’t even cover it.
A lovely relaxing place!
There are very mixed reviews for this hotel so far so im hoping to give a very honest account. After a disastrous honeymoon in Las Vegas and Miami this year, my husband and i were looking for somewhere with a nice pool, peaceful relaxing atmosphere and good food- that is exactly what we got.
I thought i would miss the fact that there were no children but i didn't miss them one bit. There was no shouting or splashing in the pool and more importantly no one running up and down the corridors at 8am.
The hotel is very much in the middle of nowhere but is set in a lovely place. You can sit in the garden with a book overlooking the sea with the pool behind you. For when we got thirsty there was a pool bar where you could have anything that you wanted (we were all inclusive).
Our room was nice, small but had everything we wanted. We had a fab view over the sea. Be warned though, it states that there is a tv in the room and although this is true, the only channel we could get that was in English was Euro News and there is only so much depressing news you want to watch when you are on holiday!
We are of the opinion that the food was fabulous. Every night is a themed night of some sort such as BBQ, Anglo Saxon (which was a roast dinner complete with yorkshire puddings), Tropical etc but basically nearly every night has something for the fussy travellers. We are both fussy eaters but loved the endless supplies of Lamb with fresh mint, beef, pork, chicken and turkey. The fresh vegetables that accompanied every meal were also lovely as were the salads. The desserts however were a little limited but providing you like fruit, you should be ok.
The entertaiment in the day was great if you are the sporty type. My husband loved the water volleyball, water polo, killer pool, football etc. However i must admit that the evening entertainment did leave a bit to be desired. The hotel relies on the animation team (David and Leanne) providing most of the entertainment and although they worked their butts off, it wasn't the best. I did enjoy the reps 'Stars on Broadway' show which was a little disorganised but good entertainment. I have to agree with a previous review, David is a really nice guy and obviously loves his job. Leanne (who is very new there) was also great and they both give 110% to trying to make you have the best time on your holiday.
The staff at the hotel were all great and very attentive. All in all, we would say that it was the best holiday we have had in years (although we have had a run of bad luck).
I wouldn't hesitate to recommed this hotel if you are looking for a hotel that is modern, very clean, set in nice surroundings with a peaceful atmosphere with good food and drink.
Best Holiday ever!!!!
We have just returned from our honeymoon here at this hotel and can honestly say we had the best holiday ever. We met some amazing people and some very good friends who will be staying in touch.
The food was overall very good. There was a wide varied range every night. There was always something you could eat. Everything was fresh and the waiters always there to help.
The Pool was beautiful with plenty of sun loungers. There was no getting up early for a lounger. We still got a bed by pool bout 9.30am. There was a pool side bar where there was a wide range of drinks including hot drinks too.
We had a side view room which overlooked the sea and pool which was real beautiful. Our room was very clean and the maids were in everyday cleaning again.
Overall the hotel was spotless, brilliant atmosphere and everyone was friendly.
The entertainment was ran by Leanne and David who were real superb. During the day there was water polo, volley ball, killer pool and lots of other things going on. All these sports were in brilliant spirit. Leanne had only been there 2 weeks but she was amazing. The 2 of them made a billiant team and made sure all us holiday makers were ok and happy at all times.
The evening entertainment was not great, it was let down by outside people coming in but it really did not spoil it as we just made the best of it and had a good laugh.
Our last night Leanne was on her own and was let down by 2 singers who should have been on stage for 2 hours but only did 50 minutes. Leanne took over, we all sung and danced with her and we all had a real good night. Well done Leanne!
We have read the views of other people and cant believe the bad ones. Cant believe they are writing about the same hotel. Overall it was worth every penny!!
Kerry and Danny (Champion of the World) well only of killer pool!!
Well, where do i start?
Oh! i know, how about the food!!! Apart from the chiefs having a very bad BO problem, the food was absolutely disgusting. The waitresses swooped down on you and took your plate from you even if you put your knife and fork down to take a sip of wine, most bizzare!! To sum up the food, " Forgettable"
Apart from it starting at ten or eleven at night, it was very, very poor. I would say that there is a next to nothing budget for this. to sum up the entertainment, " Forgettable"
The waiter service.
I would describe this service as " intermittent." One minute you were asked if you wanted a drink, and the next time they just cleared your glasses without asking. Although we were all inclusive, i did tip the waiter the first time he served us at our table, so i thought he would catch on and see we were ok for drinks. Did he come to us again that night? " I don't tink so."
To sum up the waiter service, yes you guessed it...
Very clean and tidy. The cleaners should take over the running of the hotel. Very friendly and efficient, and have pride in what they do. To sum up the rooms. " Excellent"
I have to say that if i were to think about getting married abroad, i would not bring my future wife here. I think to much of my partner to put her through this on her special day.
Oh! and i forgot to say that the pool area was very clean, but the bar staff have had there sense of humour removed. Don't get talking to them, as your never get away!!
Listen guys, trust me i'm avery easy going guy who is easily pleased, but i was tested to my limits at this hotel.
Good luck guys!
Martin in surrey.
Reading some of the reviews I was a bit worried about this holiday. DONT believe what all these moaners say. This hotel is excellent, the food is lovely and every night is something different (BBQ, italian, carvery, anglo saxon, tropical, cyprus etc)
I really enjoyed karaoke and fire show.
The hotel is a bit out of town but is set on top of a beautiful cove.
Great hotel. Very clean hotel, spacious rooms. Staff very friendly. Food of excellent quality, although I thought the desserts were a big let down. The choice and quality of the main courses were excellent. Drinks and cocktails especially were wonderful, no short measures. Mostly british people staying at this hotel. It is a short bus ride into town (80 cents). We went for 1 weeks relaxation and this is what we got! Wonderful. Definately recomended.
I have just returned from a week at this hotel and cannot understand what people are moaning about.
The hotel is extremely clean, the staff are very polite, our room was always cleaned first thing in the morning and they changed the towels every day.
The food was varied, always plenty to choose from and well presented, couldn't tell the difference between lunch and dinner, it was always 3 courses and you could have as much as you liked. The waiter/waitress service was very good and they were extremely polite.
The swimming pool was the cleanest I have ever seen, and you could always get a sunbed, but the best bit about this hotel is there are no children, so you feel you are getting a complete break.
I would recommend you visit this hotel, it is a bit out of the way but you can hire a car, they drive on the same side as us and the cars are the same as in England and it is really easy to find your way around the island.
All in all it was a fantastic holiday and I would definetly go back.
A lovely hotel. The staff are really helpfull right from reception to housekeeping. The rooms were clean and spacious. Housekeeping was spot on and the food plentiful. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and although the same food was served every day, the choice was wide enough for you to have a variation of breakfasts. The hotel is away from the main areas of Paralimni and Protaras and this we felt was a bonus. A 20 min walk took you into the main areas where there are some excellent restaurants. The pool is lovely and there are several little beaches near by. The sea is warm and clear. We will be going back. We had a fab holiday
