Jasmine Court Hotel: Jasmine Court

by KimMuir

We have stayed at the Jasmine court hotel 5 times and at different times of the year. We have never been dissapointed with the accomodation. Good breakfast buffet. A conveniant location to town. It has a great sea food restaurant, although not cheap. it has a great Jazz bar, that opens til late, where they have great guest appearences, especially Danny Fisher as Elvis!!
The vast pool area has plenty of sun beds.
The only thing that we think that let it down was no cosy bar to have an early evening drink before dinner. It is also good value if you book through a UK travel agent, considering the price of the flights to Northern Cyprus.

Good Diving school attached

Jasmine Court: A hotel in a good location with diving school

by thewrightfamily

We have stayed at the Jasmine Court twice. Once for two weeks and this year for one week.
We were looking for a hotel within walking distance of the nightime restaurants by the harbour. Not too near and not too far. The hotel is about 20 minutes on foot to the centre which is the sort of distance we like. We stayed B&B in a studio which has a bedroom and a lounge area with bed for our son. It is a five star hotel, well certainly a good four star. There is a casino but we have never even looked inside. They do a good buffet breakfast with omlettes and pancakes to order. Sufficient to keep yu going through the day. The second reason for staying in this hotel is that attached to it is the Blue Dolphin diving school. Our son has taken two formal PADI qualifications at The Blue Dolphin. The English instructors are Simon and Steve. We have read elsewhere that the Jasmine Court [like others] confiscates drinks brought in from outside. On our first visit we were told off once but we were a bit silly walking in with a supermarket shopping bag. But if you are discrete then there is no reason not to bring drinks in in your rucksac and the positive incentive is that the mini bar is ridiculously expensive. A quick comparison to the other hotels that we have seen but not stayed in is as follows: The Colony is very central and upmarket but ironically is opposite a petrol station. It has a roof pool. The Rocks is also central and has a casino. It has better pool and outdoor facilities that the Colony. The Acapulco is too far out of town for us but looks good if large and is popular. The Merit Cystal Cove is big and looks good but is all inclusive which is not what we want. So when we return for more diving it will probably be to the the Jasmine Court again.

Location and the Blue Dolphin Diving School.

The White Pearl Hotel: Enjoy the beautiful view of the Venetian Harbour

by MrBill

We have stayed in The White Pearl Hotel now several times and continue to be very satisfied with this small hotel. For one, it has a great location directly on harbour. Sitting on our balconey outside our room on the second floor, we felt we were above the busy square below our window, but could still feel the atmosphere as if we were in the middle of things. Twice we have retired to our room's balconey, had a Mediterranean style picnic and enjoyed a bottle of white wine instead of sitting at one of the bars or cafés below. It is a great people watching location.

The hotel is small, clean and normally quiet. On recent Friday night, an open air disco played loud music until 6 a.m. and we barely slept a wink due to an air conditioner that did not work (to begin with), trying to sleep with the patio door open, and then being assaulted by blood thirsty mosquitos all night. Finally, I went down to see the manager and he was quickly able to show us why the air conditioner was not working properly. We felt dumb, but the next night we slept like babes.

The rest of the time we had no problem and just really enjoyed sitting on the balconey taking in the sights and sounds of the harbour and Kyrenia. It is really my idea of what the Mediterranean should be like and what we were missing to a certain extent in the south. Definately a must see while you are in Cyprus in any case.

This is a perfect small hotel for the weekend. If you are in Kyrenia for a week, it does not have beach front access or a swimming pool, so if that is important for you then you might want to try a larger hotel or resort. For us it was great for the diving, boat cruise and sight seeing that we wanted to do.

There is no parking at the hotel and in Kyrenia in general. You park your car as you enter the town from the direction of Nicosia, or Lefkosia as it is known, at the central car park. From there it is a short five minute walk down to the harbour. The cost of parking in just one Turkish lira ($1=1.50 lira) for each entry regardless of how long you park. Although when we asked the parking attendant he was quite happy to tell us it was an extra five liras for overnight. Oh well, you live and learn. His tip for the day! ; - )

Lapta hotel: The best place in town.....

by skanda

Because there wasn't any accomodation available in our pricerange in Girne, we deceided to take the bus to the next town. We stopped in a little town called Lapta, but discovered that there weren't any normal hotels, just resorts we couldn't pay for. We asked for directions at the local coffeehouse and a young boy brought us to the Lapta Hotel. This turned out to be the best surprise of our holiday. This hotel was occupied by constructionworkers who worked in the Lapta Area. Because we were tired and didn't want to go back to Girne the owner offered to put us up for the night. They gave us a room with 6 bunkbeds and a private bathroom! We could change beds every hour! In the morning, after all the constructionworkers left, they cooked us a very nice breakfast.

The Dome Hotel: Tired hotel in a decent location

by XenosUK

Our sea-view room was on the first floor and had a decent sized terrace which would probably be quite pleasant for sitting out on in warmer weather, but the rooms on the floor above us had smaller terraces which, being north-facing, would get very little sun even in summer and many were directly above the hotel bar and restaurant, which meant that you looked down onto the green-felted roofs, complete with aircon units, so not exactly a marvellous vista.

The room itself was fairly small ant the facilities pretty basic for what is described as a 4-star hotel. I'd personally put it at around 2-3 stars. There was a TV and a small minibar, but no tea and coffee tray (which I suspect is common to most hotels in N Cyprus) and the complimentary toiletries were limited to shampoo and soap - not even a box of tissues in the bathroom. It was clean enough, but somehow looked tired, especially the bathroom with its 80's style yellowy-peach suite and discoloured grouting between the wall tiles. One of the light fittings wasn't working on our arrival and we pointed this out to the porter, but nothing was done about it. We tried swapping the bulbs around and found it was just a dead bulb and so left it out on the dressing table for 2 days. The first day the maid just put it back again and the second day she removed it from the room, but didn't bother bringing a new one!

Hotel staff were friendly, but the service was somewhat haphazard. They were keen to re-fill your wine glasses at dinner, but not so keen to serve tea and coffee at breakfast and we mostly had to get our own from the urns provided. We also spent a good 10 minutes in the hotel bar one afternoon without getting served - despite the fact that there were only two other people in there - and we eventually got up and went to a bar across the road.

Breakfast is the usual hotel buffet style and there was a good choice with a few hot dishes plus plenty of cold cuts, fruit, cereal and breads. We had paid for B & B, but our tour operator, Green Island Holidays threw in free half board during the winter months, so we ate in the hotel restaurant on a few evenings. Again the food was served buffet-style and was plentiful, but it was pretty bland and uninspiring and I certainly wouldn't pay extra for half board if I stayed there in summer - there are far better reasonably-priced choices at the local restaurants.

The Dome Hotel is Cyprus's longest established hotel and I have to say that in some respects it looks like it. It is situated on the seafront a minute or two's walk from the harbour and only slightly further from the main shopping area, so overall I'd say the Dome is a good base for exploring Kyrenia and N Cyprus, but just don't expect it to live up to its rating

Acapulco Beach Resort: Ideal for slothful vacation style

by petrkar

We selected this facility because it was one and only one offer of our domestic travel agencies at northern Cyprus. Reading the previous reviews we were a bit shaky about this place, but - generally - the overall experinece was not disappointing.
It is really large-scale facility located in secluded position. It is disadvantage because you should buy everything within hotel area, consequently you pay higher (sometimes excessive) prices for everything. There is bus service to Kyrenia and back for reasonable price, but the last return is about 5pm. If you want to see a bit more and if you are not just idler car hire is almost must.
On the other side, the resort is very clean, carefuly serviced and - due to its extent - never overcrowded.
Half-board catering is of very good quality and quantity. There are two possibilities of accomodation: bungalows and main-building rooms. Although more expensive, the main-bulding rooms are of better quality; some of bungalows are not yet renovated and if you will have the bad luck you will be frustrated. On the other hand, bungalows could be of some advantage for families with children. Both immense pool and enjoyable sandy beach are one of the best we ever seen.
I would say that this hotel is the good choice for people who prefer rather slothful and sluggish style of vacation. Although my notion of holiday is different, I surprised myself how it can be soothing.

Nostalgia Hotel: Kyrenia's best stuff..

by erendilight

The rooms are named for different famous people of history such as Namik Kemal, Sultan Selim 2, Nathaniel Lawrence, even imagery character of Shakespeare: othello:)
It is situated very close to Kyrenia Harbour, 5 minutes walk from the magnificient streets of Kyrenia. One of the best service i have ever had in a one star hotel.. Sultan Selim 2 room is strongly recommended for the ones who are there for honeymoon:)))

breakfast, friendly&very helpful stuff, pool, restaurant, tv, clima, taxi service from/to airport, room service.....

Oscar: Oscar Resort

by dd99

Oscar is a basic resort which has seen better days. Nice pools, one water slide, unimpressive short stretch of sand for a "beach".

I stayed in pink room (...) which was adequate but nothing special. View was amazing (pools & coastline) but anyone on the other side of the corridor would miss out.

There is a small fitness center with a nice indoor pool and a dry and wet sauna - all open from 4pm.

Service was average, most staff spoke some English. A nice touch is the reading library (lots of novels) near the lobby. Breakfast was a fairly mediocre buffet.

The hotel is a 20 min walk out of town. The hotel transport (a toy train...) only runs 3 times a day, otherwise you have to take a taxi (5 YTL).

The hotel guests seemed to be almost exclusively British OAPs from some reason...

The hotel is full of energy-saving light bulbs - so the room itself may be dark - and the gym was very dark....

Theresa Hotel

by peterdhduncan

The Theresa Hotel is a simple and cheap hotel in a superb position right on the north coast of the Karpas Peninsula. We stayed for a night following our hire-car overheating, and the owner, who spoke good English, assisted us in arranging for the replacement car to be brought to us.

When Peter asked the owner for the dinner menu, he showed him the barbecue on which it was to be cooked and then took him to a large freezer and showed him the huge selection of fresh fish from which we were able to choose!

We, subsequently, had dinner with him on the terrace overlooking the sea. It transpired that he originally came from Latchi, a small village on the Greek side of Cyprus, which we stayed in a few years ago. He had subsequently been a teacher In Istanbul, but had returned to Cyprus to run the hotel.

Although, there were several staff, the only other guests were another English couple who were staying at the hotel for a week, having read about it in the Guardian newspaper, and who seemed very happy with it.
