More about Hotel Pia Bella

pia bella

by TripAdvisor Member nursecarol

I recently asked if anyone knew whether the indoor pool at the Pia Bella was in operation yet.

Well, I've been home one week now from my stay there so can answer my own question.

The Casino is finished and operating where the dining room was positioned last year. The neon lights a bit gaudy at night, but it doesn't intrude on the Hotel.

The new dining room is beautiful and is adjacent to the swimming pool nearest to the front building.

The indoor pool is being built under the new dining room, and is due to be finished later this year, I believe.

I asked for a single room in the original building, and thats what I got, overlooking the pool - lovely!

My only one reservation is that I was B&B and happily ate out and about, but on one evening when it was raining decided to eat from the buffet menu at the Hotel, a mistake. The food was quite poor and at 35YTL (£16) was the most expensive meal that I ate all holiday and was also the worst value. The best dining was to be had at Niazi's opposite the Dome Hotel, where the Full Kebab is 25YTL and is the best feast one could imagine, in lovely surroundings.

This was my third stay at the Pia Bella, I will return but won't eat there again.

Pia Bella was a great place to stay.

The hotel was well maintained and clean. The rooms were spacious and well presented, the lobby, pools, restaurant and communal areas were attractive. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, speaking a good standard of English. The restaurant food was of a high standard and varied and could be booked on the night if you don't want to do half board.

The hotel operates a card system to add any hotel charges. We thought the prices were reasonable and the bill was accurate.

The hotel is situated about 15-20 minutes walk away from Kyrenia. I felt very safe in Kyenia (no hassle).

A caution for people with walking difficulties -the hotel is well paved and has lifts, but outside the streets are not very well lit and pavements uneven. That said, it's about £2.50 - £3 for a taxi.

If I was booking this hotel, I'd want to know what impact the Casino next door has had (if any) as it opened the week we left.

Finally, this hotel has a reputation for returning customers and gets booked up very quickly. I'm not surprised.

The Tudors think Pia Bella is great !

Lovely hotel with quite wonderful staff - without exception they were all friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. You are made to feel very welcome - we were offered something to eat and drink when we arrived late at 11pm - and breakfast was provided at 4am for anyone who was leaving on the early flight ! The rooms are all very clean, attractive and comfortable - beds were excellent. We thought the food was very good value for money. Breakfast excellent with enormous choice from Turkish to British. Dinners are copious and quite plain, but the buffet meze is brilliant and there is also a good choice of desserts. All the food is fresh and of good quality - so you get a healthy diet ! Good wine list and they have special promotions as well. Pools and gardens are immaculate. Lack of a toilet by the pool is a bit of a drag, but it would appear one is nearly built.
Very well located in Kyrenia, it is convenient for the centre and harbour (15 minutes walk). Yes the road is busy but only at rush hours. (Some of the standard rooms in the original building do face onto the road so would get traffic noise.) We ate a few times on the harbour and liked Set i Fish best and we had fantastic Brandy Sours at the Harbour Bar two doors from Set.
As were using Kyrenia as a base to tour around North Cyprus, we found the Pia Bella a wonderful resting place on our non-activity days. It was obvious that many guests did not leave the hotel at all for two weeks !
There are also two resident cats (Sausage and Ginger) who are as friendly, happy , individual and content as everyone else at this lovely hotel.

Recently stayed at the Pia Bella - what a lovely hotel, such helpful friendly staff. Ali and others made us feel at ease from the minute we walked in - reception staff incredibly helpful, great breakfast although some people were complaining. (Theres always one!) Would recommend the Yildiz Taxi, turn left through the front door, cross over and a couple of minutes down the street. They were reliable, friendly and good price. Eat at Beyti's - takes a little finding but ask directions - well worth it, food is excellent - ask to eat inside, there is air con.. Peanuts is good for the views, take your camera, food not bad. Niazzi's food is excellent but a little more expensive than the others.
Loads of places to visit, too

Good staff bedrooms and grounds

by TripAdvisor Member Centrehouse

We stayed in Feb 08 with a hire car for the full stay.

Pia Bella is a good hotel the rooms are basic and comfortable with wireless internet access. Service and staff are excellent and the grounds immaculate food is also OK, but it is about 20 minutes from the harbour ( town centre) on a main road with a roughish footpath. There is not much around the area within walking distance to do, apart from the casino next door and one or two restaurants ( not open in February) .

Two pools and one with a bar.

Restaurants
Courtyard about 1 mile Pakistani and European good , Mr Chau around the corner also good Chinese.

Kyrenia tends to be be dusty and badly kept with lots of non descript shops.

Worth a vist but without the hire car we would have been very bored,

We stayed at Pia Bella in august 2007 for 2 weeks and I have to say this was one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in and well deserves its rating, there is no doubt that a lot of money has been spent on this family run and owned hotel, its of a very high standard but we are a little worried that in continuing to make it larger it may loose the ‘personal’ touch that it has now, the new rooms over the soon to be opened refurbished restaurant are a very high standard (the management were very happy to show us round), and indeed with the new indoor pool, fitness centre, Turkish baths, business centre and a small conference room, along with the casino next door, you may well find the facilities are to good to ever venture out and with another new block planned to the rear of the car park this will be a ‘large’ hotel and it would be a shame if it lost the atmosphere it has at the moment
The staff really make this hotel, they are very helpful and friendly and nothing is to much trouble – reception is very comfy and check in is fast and professional, you are treated to a drink in the bar ‘on the house’ when you arrive and your bags are taken to your room, we booked a superior room and it was very well appointed with an en-suite bath/shower and complementary shampoo/shower gel and plenty of towels, there is a fridge/mini bar and, whoopee ! a kettle with tea and coffee, (I have this thing about kettles, read my other reviews?) you do have to pay extra for milk which I found a bit cheeky seeing as they advertise this free but it is kept topped up and its not expensive, there is a small balcony and either a pool or semi mountain view.
The bar area is really nice, all outside and beautifully kept, with sofas and plenty of chairs for relaxing and you are waited on at your table, eating at the moment is done outside the restaurant as this was closed for the refurb, its all clean but you do have to choose your table well as there are trees overhanging and the odd bird!!! the food is good and I would imagine it will be even better with the scope the new restaurant will give the menu, we were half board so the set menu was in with the price and this was a much cheaper way of doing it, you start with soup and then help yourself from the extensive salad meze, then there is a main course with 2 options and a sweet, the menu is set weekly so it was repeated on the second week but we didn’t have a problem with any of it, breakfast was a selection of cereals, toast, cold meats, fruit, yoghurt, and limited hot food, we would have liked bacon to be on the menu more and some brown sauce would have been nice !
Both the pools are nice and the waiters come round a lot for drinks orders so you don’t have to move to far, the only thing missing at the top pool are toilets and you have to either drag yourself to reception or back to your room !
We hired a car from the hotel for 3 days and the rates are very competitive, just don’t expect anything with to much poke?
We did a lot of site seeing and the best in our opinion, if you are into ruins, is Salamis, it is huge and very well intact its just such a shame that the whole island is treated like a rubbish tip and as soon as you are away from any of the hotels it did tend to spoil the view, indeed Salamis, which has stood for 1,000s of years is now tainted with plastic bottles and graffiti among the ancient mosaics! But is still stunning and a must see
The other thing we noticed was that the reps and tour guides/maps have one name for a place, but the signs call it something else, this can be frustrating and you can end up in some odd places! But this is part of the fun
We would recommend Pia Bella as a relaxing, quiet, friendly hotel, ideal as a base and with plenty to keep you occupied

My husband and I stayed at the Pia Bella from the 19th - 26th April, they had upgraded us from B&B to HB and supposedly put us in a superior room instead of standard as a special offer for the month of April, however when we arrived we were put in a standard room, which fronted the road and we found this very noisy, we were moved the next day to a room which was at the back of the hotel overlooking the hotel car park and then a road, which was a little quieter, however there didn't seem to be much difference between standard or superior in size or decor except the sup seemed a little fresher. In all we found the hotel noisy, all rooms have laminate floor which means chairs moving or even walking on the floor was echoed throughout. The balcony had 2 chairs with seat covers that were torn and stained which considering this is the beginning of the seaon did not bode well. The hotel was mainly occupied by elderly guests very few younger people and lacking in life!! Anatolia sky rated this 4 - 5 star, whereas our guide book rated it as budget, which I feel is nearer the mark. I certainly would not pay the rate quoted by A S, we got it considerably cheaper through Cyprus Premier, (nearly £300) but I still found this expensive in comparison with other hotels and areas we have stayed in. 15 min walk to Kyrenia harbour which is pretty, all in all we prefer Turkey for scenery history and friendliness of people, however the staff were very pleasant. This was described by others as a small friendly family run hotel, whilst friendly it did not feel 'small' or 'family run' , the breakfast was good food in general okay. I would rate this as a 3 + certainly not 4 - 5.

Fabulous!!!

I chose this hotel based on reviews from this site.

I live in Paphos, Southern Cyprus, and decided to take my parents to the North for a long weeked as it was their wedding anniversary.

I must say this is a great hotel, so clean and friendly. We booked 2 superior rooms (one for my parents and one for myself and my daughter) and they were really comfortably, spotlessly clean and decorated very nicely in browns/creams. Beds were lovely (firm) and the bathrooms were immacculate, shower was very powerful, although sometimes there was a problem with the temperature shooting from one exteme to the other!!, there was plenty of shampoo, conditioner and soap provided. My parents were given a room with a jaccuzi!. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, so many flowers and the smell all around is gorgeous. Both pools were spotlessly clean and plenty of sunbeds and chairs dotted around.

We stayed on a B&B basis and the breakfast was fab!, something for everyone, including several different types of bread (plus toaster), lots of gorgeous jams, marmalade, honey etc, the usual continental breakfast fayre - meats, cheeses and the like. There were hot eggs of some description every day - the omelettes were divine!, other mornings there were boiled (I must say the scrambled looked very unappetising - like soup!), and also beans, tomatoes, pancakes, mushroms - and even bacon on one occasion!
We also loved the choice of fresh fruit available for breakfast - strawberries, bananas, apples, pears, oranges and also fresh furit salad each morning.
four or five types of cereal were also available, along with a nice selection of dried fruits (we loved the apricots!)

We ate at the restaurant on the first night, and I must disagree with the previous person who said that the evening meal was not good, we really enjoyed our meal there and would definately eat there again without hesitation - the only reason we ate there once was because we only stayed 4 nights and wanted to get out and about and try other restaurants - we paid around £16 per head for 4 courses - a really good asparagus soup, followed by as much as you wanted from the extensive salad bar (lots of variety, very fresh and tasty!), ok there wasn't a huge selection for your main course but the pasta and meatballs were tasty and the grilled turkey apparently was very good. There were a large selection of desserts but none of us could manage one so I can't comment there sorry! - there is also an a la carte menu if you don't fancy the buffet option, all in all great value for the money.

My only complaint about the hotel is that there was no lift in the new part of the hotel we were staying in, not too much of a problem for us as we are all able bodied, but I was told that the lift is being installed next month!

All in all we had a fantastic time - we really enjoyed Kyrenia and will definately be back soon to stay at the Pia Bella.

Best TRNC hotel we have used

by TripAdvisor Member jim80

We have stayed at many of the hotels around Kyrenia, including some with a higher star rating. The piabella was better overall than any of the others. Booking direct with the hotel was easy and we were given free transfers by taxi from Ercan airport and back. We also received a room upgrade and HB at no extra cost.
On arrival at 1am we were given free drinks and offered food.
The room was spotless and had a good view.
All of the staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Bar service was available everywhere without the normal need to go searching for a waiter willing to serve you.
Drink prices are far cheaper than any of the other hotels we have used and also cheaper than most bars.
If there is a failing it is with the evening buffet. excellent meze but very limited choice of hot food and dessert. We would not have paid 35YTL per night for this buffet. That said there are good restaurants within walking distance.

Really excellent Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member JimmyFareham

We knew how good the service would be from the moment we arrived at Larnaca. Our own transport direct to the hotel. On arrival staff could not help enough. Shown to our room "spotless" this hotel puts high class one's in London to shame. Were at the hotel for 10 days half board, food good but is limited in choice if you want your fry ups then this is not the place for you.

Pools and grounds spotless staff excellent. Sara the hotel rep was superb nothing to much trouble

We will be going back
