Forget the resort hotels........
....stay at the Nostalgia instead (the hotel is used by at least 2 UK tour groups...cultural types not lager louts).
The Nostalgia is a 'boutique' hotel, with 28 rooms in two buildings. The main building is an old Cypriot house, with inner and outer courtyards, roof space for sitting, rooms opening onto external walkways. There's a bar/restaurant (with tables in the outside courtyard) and lounge (with books, magazines and TV). The second building, just across the street, contains a small pool and bar/restaurant as well as more rooms.
Each room is individually decorated and named after a famous Turk. Some have four-posters (mine did!), some have balconies, all have lovely old furniture, wooden floors and shutters and high ceilings.
All rooms are en suite with showers, air con/heating (very efficientand very quiet), telephone, TV (only Turkish channels), mini-bar. safe (extra charge for key), hair dryer.
The hotel is right in the heart of the oldest part of Kyrenia, just a two minute walk to the lovely harbour.
Staff are friendly and incredibly helpful....it's the first hotel I've visited where they actually waved us off as we departed! As I was on a tour we ate in the hotel most nights; good food, much of it sourced from their on farm and organically produced.
Breakfast was fine too: some hot dishes every day, bread, preserves, meats/cheeses, olives, yogurt, fruit. Coffee and tea as required.
There's a mosque very near so you'll hear the call to prayer...........and those whose rooms were in the second building found chatter and music from the small square with its bar was sometimes an irritant. But my ear plugs meant I slept extremely well (very comfortable beds) and everyone else on my tour (21 of us) was equally pleased with the hotel.
Only slight issue is the lack of water pressure in the showers, but Cyprus has a major water shortage so that its not really surprising.
So if you want somewhere beautifully clean, with character and friendly staff.......somewhere which makes you feel you are actually in another country, rather than the bland modern euro-hotels........go to the Nostalgia.
But if you do like bland modern euro-hotels, you won't like the Nostalgia....so stay away.

Boutique hotel.Nostalgia.
Charming hotel decked out with old telephones, radios, typewriters etc in theme with the hotel name. Comfortable en suite, tv air conditioned. 55 TL bed and breakfast. 5 minutes walk down narrow winding lanes to the harbour.

a very romantic place
We loved this little hotel, with only 18 rooms. It is run by very helpful and friendly people and it is located in an old house a few minutes away from the harbour.
Unique Quality: Rooms are not very large but comfortable and clean - not luxurious, though - despite the fact that some rooms have a nice four-polster bed. All this for about 80 turkish liras, and breakfast is included.
