Pasing by Larnaca

by hectorgr39

Hi all,
We are heading to Larnaca next June, in our way to Cairo, and am trying to get information on a cheap place to stay, the closer to the airport the better.Waking distance will be great.
What are the prices like? expected total budget per day for staying there?

Any insite would be appreciated.

Look for hotels in Larnaca on any major hotel booking website. Most of the hotels on the larnaca beach are only 15 minutes from the airport.

I don´t think there is a place to stay in walking distance to the airport. The cheapest i found in Cyprus (nov. 2009) was Luxor Guesthouse in Limmassol, a bit messy, but quite fun.

There is allmost no public transport saturdays and sundays in Cyprus!

Hi,
One of the nearest hotel to the airport is the Flamingo hotel, which is across the road from the beach. My son stayed at this hotel when there was a problem with is flight.

The Flamingo hotel is one and the substantially cheaper San Remo is another though about a mile further away San Remo's room rates for June are 36 Eu for a single and 45 Eu for a double room.

The distance can be walked by a backpacker in about 45 - 50 minutes from the current airport terminal (but not the one that will become operational and replace it in November 2009).

I was in Cyprus this March and I had the opportunity to visit the easyHotel in Larnaca.
It is one of my favourite and its really new. I have posted an entry in my blog (Larnaca budget hotel). I loved it indeed.Have a look if you wish. It even smelled the fresh paint. Furniture in the rooms are all new. The hotel opened during Christmas if I am not mistaken.
The manager of the hotel is realy kind and will suggest and give you discount cards for Restaurants, Cafes and Bars.
Every popular sight, the beautiful Palm Beach Avenue (Finikoudes) the Castle, the very Popular Museums and the Marina is within a walking distance.
The Palm beach Avenue is just 5 minutes from the hotel where there are many budget restaurants. Have a look on what I have written for Larnaca.
Hope this will help you.

Travel Tips for Larnaca

Do the Volta.

by planxty

There is a certain custom that is common to many Southern European countries, but the Cypriots seem to have refined to an artform. It consists of nothing more that going out for an evening stroll, usually in the most populaced places, allowing yourself to see, and more importantly be seen by, everybody else doing the same thing.

In Larnaca, the Volta is centred on Finikoedes (the d is not pronounced) which literally means the Palms, so named for the lovely palm trees that line the seafront area. the photo shows the area during the day before the Volta gets into full swing.

If you sit for a while at one of the numerous seafront cafes or bars, you will see the same people walking up and down the same few hundred yards over and over again. I'm fond of a walk myself, but I normally like to do it to get somewhere. However, on a warm summer evening, I'm sure it's a very pleasant thing to do. Please feel free to join in!

some more graves outside of Hala Sultan Mosque

by globetrott

There are some more graves outside of the Hala Sultan Mosque, in the backside of its garden, facing the Larnaca Saltlake. What was very interesting for me to see in this small cemetery were the tops of the tombstones, that look like heads or hats and there are some different ones and all of the tombs have great decorations and arabic inscriptions.

Larnaka Ink Tattoo Studio

by kensmessenger

"Second Great Year!"

This is the second year since "Larnaka Ink" came to Cyprus.
Situated in the centre of Larnaca at traffic lights by the entrance to Larnaca Beach and Esplanade (Finikoudes), its run very professionally by Andrea who has a team of fun and talented people around her.
If you are interested in art or curious about tattoo's its well worth a visit and .......the coffee's great too!

"So You think you want a tattoo?"

So you think you want a tattoo?
Well I'm not surprised, they've become very popular over the last decade where it seems people have developed a desire to be unique and perhaps stand out from the crowd. You've seen it with cars in that you can now order your car with your own colour scheme and individual preferences. A long way from the old days when you could have any colour that you liked as long as it was black. Well things have changed a lot since those early days in the car industry and now the same can be said for tattoos.
They can be as wild as your imagination and as different from the tattoos of old as chalk and cheese. Tattoo equipment has evolved and improved and the standard of skills of the Tattoo Artist has leaped ahead so that now work of photographic quality can be produced. This probably accounts for some of the surge in popularity. You can now carry your favourite work of art with you or your favourite picture of your wife, child, mother etc.
For all its appeal though you must remember that the act of tattooing is invasive and therefore hygiene is imperative. If you've decided its what you want then first make sure that the Studio you wish to use is scrupulous about hygiene, has the right sterilising equipment to ensure this and that this equipment is tested and certificated.
The UK has arguably the highest standards in the world but once outside of the UK standards can drop considerably. Don't get caught out.
Any bona-fide Studio will be happy to show you their certification and explain their procedures. There's no excuse nowadays for any Artist not to use new needles for each client. If yours does not then make your excuses and leave.
People ask about the pain. All I can say is if it was that bad why do so many people have second tattoos. If you're really worried about it you can use anaesthetic cream beforehand to numb the area and that is easily available at most pharmacies.
That's the serious stuff, now lets get down to the fun stuff.
You can trawl the internet for the design, photo, painting or drawing of your dreams and know that if you use the right studio, your dream work can be reproduced. You can also drink coffee and lounge in the studio of your choice, leafing through the thousands of designs that they will undoubtedly have, to give you ideas. Its all good from here. You will soon see why so many film stars, musicians and people in the public eye (celebrities) love tattoos. They bring out the individuality in you because you will invariably have a tattoo that is special to you and maybe has meaning only to you.
So my final advice is, choose your Artist carefully, make sure you see many examples of his work and be sure you like his technique. Technique's can vary that doesn't mean they are good or bad, just different. However if his style doesn't suit you then he/she's not the right Artist for you. Once you have found an Artist whose work you like, talk it through with them and make sure you like them as a person. Remember you might be in close proximity to this person for maybe 2 hours or more and if they are arrogant or sharp it might not be the pleasant experience it should be.
Once you're sure you've found the right Artist and Studio spend enough time to be sure the design you have chosen is the right one for you. If you take all this on-board you will find that your tattoo is a joy that will give you pleasure for all time.
