Barbecue Parties at the beach in the evenings!
by greekcypriot
Summers in Cyprus can be really hot and humid.
Cypriots have the custom of taking their families and driving them to a beach. Most of the times they go with friends or relatives.
They run in the sea and enjoy the crystal clear warm water, and when they come out they get busy making kebabs or “souvla” as they call it.
You will hear mothers calling their kids every 5 or 10 minutes to come and have a fruit or a sandwich before the kebabs are ready. They admit that if the kids are by the beach they have a better appetite, and you can see this satisfaction drawn on their faces.
This goes on till late in the evening. In the beginning they start by jokes, then you will hear them singing and they finish with some dancing.
This is a way of how Cypriots have fun during the hot summer months in Cyprus.
It's all Greek to me
by Trillian2005 about McDonald's
I'm normally not a McDonald's fan, but I must admit I visited this gourmet restaurant on my most recent trip to Larnaca in June 2007. It was on the last day of my vacation, shortly before my departure. I was hungry, it was blazing hot outside, and I didn't feel like walking to any of the restaurants. McDonald's was right across from my hotel, so it seemed like a great choice given the circumstances. I got a Greek Burger to go. It consisted of two round, barbecued, artificial looking chicken patties in a pita-tortilla with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and feta mayonnaise. It tasted neither good nor bad, but it was very filling, in other words: it fulfilled its purpose and kept its promise - I didn't get hungry again until well after midnight when I had landed in Tel Aviv. Upon my arrival at the apartment I dined on the cheese croissant that Cyprus Airways had generously included in the airfare.
Larnaca Fort
by grayfo
Larnaca fort was built in 1625 under Ottoman rule to defend the city. It was used more often as a prison, especially when the island was taken over by the British in 1878. The fort is on the seashore and visitors can walk around the sea wall. The fort has archeological exhibits from the site of Kition, cannons, suits of armour, lace from nearby Lefkara and various other items. In the summer the fort is sometimes the venue for concerts and other special events organised by the Municipal Cultural Center.

"sea of Cyprus"
In Larnaca, the sun rises from aes side, which is opposit for us israeliens. We are used to have the sea in our west side. In hebrew, sometimes the word sea, west and sunset always match. Here, in Larnaca, the sea and the sunrise are in the east side- quite a change.
This photo was taken before 8 am.
