Hi VTs,
1-What would be your suggested itinerary for a 2 days visit of
Larnaca for 2 active persons?(Aug.03-05,2010)
2-Is it any special event in Larnaca or Ayia Napa during Aug.03-10,2010?
TKS in advance,
Mike

Hi Mike

Depends on what activity you like to see.
Daytime sights,nightlife??

If its sights you want to see then maybe hire a car for couple of days (around 40 euro per day local hire) and you can se most of the island.
The "ghost town" of Famagusta,go to Lefkosia and cross the border into Turkish part of town,Troodos mountains, old sites around Paphos.
Anywhere you go will be advertised for things to see.
Nightlife I cannot tell about except that Ayia Napa is a very popular place for nightclubs bars etc.

I was in Larnaca recently and don't recall seeing any special events advertised.
Get there and look around there will be much to see for all tourists for your stated time.

VTRS here will give more details than I have but 2 days is not much time to explore this lovely place

By the way it will be HOT

Travel Tips for Larnaca

Larnaca Fort

by Trillian2005

The Larnaca Fort was built in 1625 under Ottoman rule to fight invadors. I have no clue who these invadors were, but they seemed to constantly have them in those days, in fact, people were obsessed with invaders. The fort marks the end of the Seafront Promenade (Phinikoudes), in other words it is now located at the sea front as it was back then, and when you climb around on it (I highly suggest it, but be careful not to fall down), you'll have a beautiful sea view from the second floor.
The fort now houses a small archaeological museum with beautiful finds from Kition and the Hala Sultan Tekke excavations, such as cannons, suits of armor, lace from nearby Lefkara, and other assorted items. When the British took over Cyprus in 1878, the Larnaca Fort served as a prison and police station. The last hanging took place in 1945. The inner courtyard of the fort is used as an open air garden for concerts and other special events during the summer months, organized by the Municipal Cultural Center and by the kind permission of the director of antiquities.

ALPHA DIVERS DIVE CENTRE

by greekcypriot

If scuba diving is your passion join the Divers club in Larnaca.
Alpha Divers (Cyprus Scuba Diving) operate in Larnaca just minutes from the famous Zenobia Ferry Wreck.
The Kalypso II is the Dive boat that easily accommodates 20 divers plus staff, with an on –board toilet, sun deck, dive platform and lots of room to move around.
The staff are experienced and committed to the safety of its guests. It is the top diving centre in Cyprus that regularly takes divers to all the reefs and wrecks.
The Larnaca dive boats provide twice daily scuba and snorkelling trips to the Zenobia Ferry Wreck. I recommend that people who are interested can first make a call and ask any possible queries they might have.

Scuba divers are taken to the Bridge, Restaurant, Duty Free Shop, Upper, Middle and Lower Vehicle decks where they can see over 100 Trucks full of sunken treasure. The Calypso operation takes divers and snorkelers to the Larnaca Marine area with a flexible schedule to meet their needs.

Besides scuba diving, there are other watersport activities taking place here. This centre offers parasailing, waverunners, kayaking, paddle boats, and aqua-cycles for the enjoyment of the entire family.

Alpha Divers can also plan that special occasion for you on the water or underwater weddings, private party cruises, and private scuba diving and snorkeling trips.

Having a Tattoo in Larnaca

by kensmessenger

After many years of wanting one and many abortive visits to Tattoo Studios where I chickened out at the last minute, I eventually got my first tattoo. On my way to the beach I spotted "Larnaka Ink" opposite the Police Station at the entrance to the beach (Phinikoudes, local name). As soon as I entered the studio I knew this was going to be a different experience. I was offerred a coffee and joined in conversation by staff who couldnt have been more welcoming. During our conversation I described what my ideal tattoo would be ( a picture of the Madonna) and was shown similar work that they had completed. I was blown away by the standard of work which was incredible, like a work of art but on skin. I decided then and there to go ahead and was shown upstairs to their tattoo "clinic" where the job was done. Not as painful as I had feared and the result, well see for yourself. Far cheaper than the UK and impressively clean. If like me you've alway's wanted one but not had the nerve, go and have a coffee with these guy's.

St. Lazarus Church

by globetrott

St. Lazarus Church is the most important christian church of Larnaca and you will find it in the very centre of town. Lazarus was the first bishop of Larnaca and under the church you will also see a grotto with a sarcophag that once had the bones of Lazarus inside, but during the crusades they had been taken first to Konstantinopel and finally to Marseille.
The Lazarus-church looks great from outside and will also be lighted at night, but it really makes sense to take also a look inside, see my next tip !

The Salt Lake

by cheekymarieh

A huge area of salt in summer. You will be very fortunate to see any water in it from April to November.
If you are there in March look out for the flamingos. They are a spectacle in themselves.

Legend has it that the lake owes its existence to St Lazarus, who at the time when the lake was still covered with vineyards passed by, desperate with hunger, and asked the owner to give him a few grapes. The miserly woman lied and said “Stranger, my vines have withered this year and have not produced a single grape.” Lazarus retorted “Because you have lied to me, your vineyard will wither up and become a salt lake.”

And so you can see the Salt Lake…..
