Taxi transfer from Larnaca to Famagusta

by paul.charlton

We're a party of 4 looking to fly into Larnaca and then transfer up to northern Cyprus Famagusta via taxi. Is this possible? (in terms of any border control), how long is the transfer? What would be the approximate cost?
THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE!

Hi Paul.

Why wanna visit Famagusta and may get your self into trouble? You may have problems with the taxi driver. What you can do, if you still want to go to Famagusta, you can do that by getting a car for your self but you will probably need to show your passport. I think when you get to the border you will have to show your passport and pay nothing.

There are many lovely places to visit in Cyprus such as santa napa, paphos and Limassol. There are lovely beaches in these places and friendly people.

Enjoy your trip

While it is true that some of our taxi drivers here refuse to drive into the North and that some may grab the opportunity to "explain" how bad creatures Turks are, I think that you shouldn't be discouraged to visit the North. Many people do. Once you arrive at Larnaka Airport and you reach the taxi stand, simply tell them that you need to go North. That's all.
Famagusta is a lovely place and largely unspoiled. Unfortunately for us in the South places like Ayia Napa, Protaras or Limassol no longer have that. Pafos is still an option (the Akamas peninsula especially and area like Pomos) and the Troodos mountains are nice too. But the North is in general much more unspoiled than the South. Not for long I am afraid but still...

P.S. Border control is a joke. You just fill in a small form with your name, passport number and nationality and you hand it over to them. They stamp the form, not the passport.

Travel Tips for Larnaca

Larnaca Summer Festival

by greekcypriot

In July residents and guests of Larnaca can enjoy a feast of entertainment at Larnaca Summer Festival organized by the Municipality of Larnaca. It is a festival of music and performing arts.

Dance, theater and music are performed by national and international artists. The program includes film screenings as well as poetry. The main venues are the courtyard of the Larnaca medieval fort and the Pattichion Municipal Amphitheater where outdoor concerts take place.

The cafe is on the promenade. It has both inside and outside seating. Outside is shaded and there is interesting decor and paintings are on display.
The food was good and the service friendly. The children enjoyed their pasta.

Larnaca District Archeological Museum

by call_me_rhia

The Larnaca District Archaeological Museum is the right place to go and learn about the town rich past. You can see a collection of finds from the Neolithic Age to the Roman period.

There are plenty of statues in this museum, as well as terracotta figures. There's also an interesting collection of pottery and ornaments from the Kition and Livhadia excavations as well as Neolithic artifacts from the nearby Khorokoitiia site.

The museum is open all week. The opening hours are:
Monday-Saturday 9-17
Sunday 10-13

Phinikoudes: The Palmtree-promenade

by globetrott

The Palmtree-promenade is where you find lots of restaurants, discos, quite a nice, sandy beach and lots of people in the streets day and night. Unfortunately it is totally impossible there to just study the menu in front of any of the many restaurants without beeing approached immediately by an "agent" trying to push you into their restaurant.

Larnaca

"Mackenzy"

The Mackenzy area of Larnaca is situated right next to Larnaca airport and the salt lakes.
This end of Larnaca is quieter than the town centre and other suburbs.
The beach is generally very quiet during the week but gets busier at the weekends in the summer. When the local population like to come down with their families.

There are some small bars and restaurants along this road which are very friendly and highly recommended.

If you walk along the length of this road across the waterfront. You will firstly come upon a one way traffic system, leading into Larnaca town centre, that is lined with more restaurants that are well worth exploring. Eventually you will reach the old fort of Larnaca.

"Old fort of Larnaca"

Travelling on foot from a westerly direction, you will see that situated at the end of the one way system, just before you enter the main Larnaca area is the old fort of Larnaca.
The old fort is a very interesting building and well worth a visit. It is very cheap to get in.

There are plenty of small bars close by to get a cool drink if you choose to visit on a hot day.

"Barbecue Night in the Mackenzy area."

Barbecue nights are always very popular after a busy day on the beach in the Mackenzy area. Local hosts like to entertain customers in the eveining with joking around, music and merriment.
