by happpymike

Hi VTs;
I am planning to visit Larnaca during my summer holidays(Aug.05-12,2010)
and it is my 1st trip to Cyprus!!
Is it the right time to visit Cyprus!
What is the best time to visit Cyprus for enjoying the beach but not to
moult!
What is the best and popular Ave. to stay(next to the beach and night life)?
What are names of best popular beaches, walking streets and night life places?
Your advice on these issues will be of a great help and highly appriciated, too.
Yours,
Mike

Yes..there is loads of information and tips about Larnaca (and the rest of Cyprus on Vt) all written by Vt locals and visitors (including me).

August is the height of the high season. You can expect lots of visitors from abroad (in all of Cyprus, not just Larnaca) and sunny weather with temperatures in the 30s. Too hot for me to lie on a beach, I'm afraid: I'd rather go earlier or later in the year.

Climate averages for Larnaca here:

Hi Happymike
August is a busy month and you will find many tourists however a friend of mine who owes a hotel tells me that there are not many tourists this year because of the economic crisis. You will find all the information you need in my pages on VT about Larnaca, Aghia Napa, Nicosia, and the Mountains. Are you planning to spend all your time in Larnaca? What are you interested mostly? Beaches sports, culture? Larnaca is so easy to be walked, and very interesting.
Read my tips and get in touch if you need something particular. I will be more than happy to help you.

Stayed in Larnaca just recently and personally preferred other places.

Maybe we didn't look in the right areas but were disappointed with the beaches. We had a car and found it difficult to park.

Ok we were strangers to the place but other places like Protara,Paphos to me were more attractive.
It will be hot.
Have to be honest the recession didn't seem to affect many people as wherever we went there were lots and lots of people around.

Visit Lefkosia (old Nicosia) and cross to the Turkish part,(take your passport),

Ok, to be honest everyone knows that Cyprus as a Mediterranean island is quite hot especially in August. This is hard for some locals who don't have airconditioning, however if you are at a nice hotel it is not that bad.
In the evenings it is cool, and yes I admit that the beaches of Protaras and Agia Napa are some of the best.
I really don't understand when I read that there was not space to park by the beach. Do you mean at Phinikoudes beach?
The real best of all is September when most tourists leave and it is cooler. However our friend has already booked for August. What could I say....that it will be cool? Every Mediterranean country is supposed to be quite hot in this month.
Phaphos is interesting however the beaches are not so nice as those of Protaras or Aghia Napa. And both these areas are so near Larnaca.
I would suggest that Mike spends at least 2 or 3 nights at either Protaras or Aghia Napa.

Travel Tips for Larnaca

Larnaca Tip

Going to a restaurant one evening where a typical Cypriot 'wedding' was put on for the tourist in an outdoor restaurant. It was very enjoyable and the food was great. The dancing afterwards was great too!

The tomb of Holy Lazarus

by globetrott

In the year 890 a sarcophag was found in Larnaca with the inscription "Lazarus, the friend of Christ". Then the St. Lazarus-church was built at that place where they had found the sarcophag, but during the crusades the body of Lazarus was taken first to Byzanz and later to Marseille. You still can see the place where they found the sarcophag, it is under the Lazarus-church and you will get there by the steps on the right side of the church, it is open, when-ever the church is open for visitors.

larnaca fort and museum

by call_me_rhia

Larnaca fort is an interesting structure erected on the seafront in 1625 by the Turks. It had defensive purposes, back then, but during British rule it was mainly used a a prison. The fort is now open to visitors and you can visit the inner courtyard and open-air garden, as well as some of the rooms.

The municipality has turned it into a small archaeological museum, so you can also see exhibitions of the finds finds from Kition and the Hala Sultan Tekke excavations. At night it occasionally doubles as the Larnaca Municipal Cultural Centre, and in the summer the courtyard becomes a theatre stage.

Salt Lake

by grayfo

The Salt Lake is actually a complex network of four salt lakes of different sizes. The largest is Lake Aliki followed by Lake Orphani, Lake Soros and Lake Spiro. The Salt Lakes (1.2 sq.mile / 2.2 sq. km) are just off the airport road and are one of the most distinctive landmarks of the area.

In the summer the water evaporates, leaving a crust of salt up to 10 cm thick. In the winter the lake fills with water and can attract over 85 species of migrating birds, including flamingoes, which form a blaze of pink as they gather to eat the brine shrimp in the lake.

Going on a one-day ride to Aiya Napa

by shirez

Definietly it was the best day spent in Cyprus.. we rented some scooters and headed Aiya Napa...

In Aiya Napa I was offered a job on the street by some local people.. in the local discotech to dance.... are they craaaaazy??? how would I have so much fun with my colleagues then?
And pls note: Im not a nasty tourist, as those seen in Ivans Madrid page.. I was wearing clothes in the city, not this bikini...
