3 stars would be generous!
Difficult to know where to start with this seriously below par place. Sea view was exaggeration, the view from the bed was of the next hotel, which wasn't particularly nice view. Room was far from clean with dust on the tables, stains on the covers and worst of all hair and used tissues in the cot provided for our 6 month baby. On complaining to a manager,( who just seemed to sit with this pals most days in the restaurants rather than managing) I was met with a smug smile and ' we will sort it out', no form of apology. Room service takes forever if at all, we waited over an hour for an omelette which never arrived and when we queried it were told it was not on the night menu. Beach and pool not much better, staff totally unable to comprehend English, taking ages to understand what the word water meant, farcical...another day in 40 degrees no drinks staff at all came by to take orders so clients had to go up to main bar. Terrible service all round, at end of holiday we forgot one of the baby's toys so ran back to the room to find it in the bin, no care at all. This is 2/3 star hotel which gives Limassol and Cyprus service a bad name. Try the Four Seasons.
Having returned yesterday I thought I'd get straight on trip advisor and read what other people thought of the Hawaii Grand Hotel. I'm surprised to see negative reviews as I found the holiday to be an amazing experience! The hotel was clean, exceptionally presented, food fantastic (but slightly pricey and agree that Chesters is good to save the pennies on a few nights) and the facilities to be wonderful.
We had booked the "gold package" through Olympic which meant we were given private transfers to and from the airport, champagne and exotic fruit in our room along with the local bottle and bowl of fruit. We were also given the best room in the category which was not sea view. This room turned out to be bigger than rooms with sea view as we got a sneaky glimpse as we walked past the maid cleaning sea view rooms! I would not personally pay for sea view as is very expensive. I certainly recommend the gold package as these little extras are worth the money.
This hotel is not for the lively guest who wants to be entertained all evening but is ideal for a relaxing, peaceful and hassle free holiday.
As for the staff, you will always get a grumpy person but with so many of the staff being ever so helpful, you just dont notice them.
Overall I would strongly recommend this hotel and yes, it may not be British 5* but then you are in Cyprus and with the pool and beach, you wont even notice the bathroom is 2 feet smaller than you'd like!
a great relaxing honeymoon!
We stayed at the Hawaii for 2 weeks for our honeymoon, as soon as we arrived we were taken back by the amazing lobby area and general decor of the hotel. You get top class treatment from trhe moment you step in, all your bags will be taken to your room and reception are very welcoming. the rooms are fine a good size with excellent air-con which was needed! we got fresh fruit, champers and canapes.
the food is excellent - you have options with the half board element. the salaminia and kohili restauraunts are amazing - try the seabass!
the pool area and beach are great - lots of watersports to do!
Limassol itself is massive so taxis are needed when the excellent bus service ends in the evening (only 80c for a bus into the town).
i would recomend this hotel, the prices are high within the hotel but you can get cheaper drinks from across the road.
Excellent food, gorgeous setting!
Stayed at the Hawaii Grand in peak season and had a lovely week in the gorgeous sunshine staying half board!!
The hotel is set just back from the main road into Lemessos but it's not busy by any standard! and to the rear of the hotel there is a private beach.
The pool is a good size with lots of sunbeds and parasols (though the usual towels on beds were happening - this included one member of the pool staff reserving beds too!!!) and there was a separate pool for younger children, both a good temperature. There was also a small inside pool - but the water is freezing!!
Apart from the glorious weather, the food was one of the highlights with themed nights in the Athena restaurant that were delicious! and the fish restaurant is set outside in the palm trees which is a wonderful setting! there are also two more restaurants but one wasn't open and the other was japanese and you have to pay for that one.
The food at lunch was a tad expensive for what it is and so are drinks but there are some restaurants across the road which cater for them (the one that looks a bit pirate like comes highly recommended - the owner is lovely and very accommodating!!) and also a few shops where you can buy water etc.
There is a bus that leaves from outside the hotel about every 20mins into Lemessos and cost 80 cents, where you will find more shops, bars and restaurants and also some sights to see including the castle which has a lovely view from the top!
The rooms were a fantastic size with pleanty of storage, and a few nice touches such as flowers and chocolates on your pillow, though they don't clean properly and the maid will just walk into your room if you don't answer the door!
Overall a lovely week relaxing in the sunshine, it is a quiet resort, but there are lots of trips to do if you want to get away from the poolside/beach but not really for those looking for a lively week!
not bad, could be a little better!
We stayed at the Hawaii grand at the end of august for our honeymoon. Although on first impressions the hotel is magnificent and we were greeted by champagne on ice. canapes, chocs, fresh fruit, and a beautifully made up bed with rose petals, once we had been there a while we did not feel that the hotel was of 5 star standard.
Toilets in the main areas area not always clean, which showed that they were not checked. (basics i would have thought). the drinks and food were pricey but that was to be expected and the service was not always very prompt. The food however was lovely with a big choice, although, the restaurants across the road, particulaly Embers and Tera Mare, were excellent value and the service fantastic.
Housekeeping staff were very friendly, although reception staff and management were not.
We did ask for an upgrade for 1 night as a good will gesture to make the honeymoon more special but were fobbed off!
Location is good as it is on the outskirts of Limassol therefore quieter, but with enough bars ans restaurants around the hotel to keep u going. Buses cheap and regular into Limassol but takes around 20 mins to get there.
We booked a sea view, worth doing in any hotel in Limassol as most are situated on the main rd.
Overall, we had a lovely time, but the Hawaii Grand just needs tweeking slighlty to make it into a real 5 *.
Pleasantly surprised by the Hawaii Grand
My husband and I stayed B&B at the Hawaii Grand for 10 days at the beginning of September 07. We originally booked to stay next door at the 4* Elias Beach, but were informed when we arrived that the hotel was overbooked and were moved to the 5* Hawaii Grand free of charge. I was a bit worried at first because I had researched into the Elias Beach and was satisfied that it met my standards, which are pretty high. One of the reasons I hadn't booked the Hawaii Grand was because of the neutral reviews on Trip Advisor. I needn't have worried. The Hawaii Grand exceeded my expectations in every way - clean, good quality bath products (which are a must for me), complimentary slippers and bathrobes, nice pool, right on the beach and not too close to the centre of town. One evening, we were invited to a cocktail reception compliments of the management team - free champagne and canapes! The housekeeping staff were incredibly helpful and, contrary to what other reviewers have said, the reception staff and the concierge especially were great. My husband even managed to wangle free internet access! There was only 1 downside and that was that some things were a bit pricey in the hotel (e.g. food and drink), but it was a 5* hotel after all so this was to be expected and there are plenty of restaurants and bars in the local vicinity so this wasn't a problem. We would both definitely go back there. Loved it!!
Great hotel for late summer sun - 16th September
This hotel is good, the mangement are excellent, attentive and very friendly, especially the Restaurant Manager and Ronnie in the bar! The Reception staff are very helpful and can't undstand any of the comments below, the head Receptionist helped us with an issue with our flights and at all times Reception staff were polite, courteous and very proactive with requests.
The hotel is undergoing refurbishment this November (Pool area and bar/restaurants) and if they get this right it could compete with Four Seasons/Meriden Spar, but it is still some way behind. The pool is large, clean, well mainained and never too busy. The parasols and general area were adequate however again this is going to be improved. The beach area needs serious attention and this is where it fails a little. Sun lounges randomly placed, quite old and not many waiting staff around.
We've noticed some comments about food and drink being too expensive, it's not! It's 4/5 star prices. A beer is £3.00, a good bottle of wine £19.00, it's London prices, the food is value for money. You can find cheaper places to go, but the food is appalling and everything is served with chips!. Terra Mare across the road is very good for the area, slow service on a busy night but again good value for money, with Dover Sole, Sea Bass, Sea Bream, Rack of Lamb on the menu. All of which were cooked with care, although obviously not Michelin Star standard and more Gastro Pub .For those wishing to go to Cyprus because it's dirt cheap, can get dirt cheap in the many horrible road-side greasy spoons - that serve everything with chips and a pint of english beer!
The rooms are a good size, they're clean and excellent room service, we never waited more than 5 mins. The towel robe was a bit worn though and it needed updating.
PROS - Good value for money food, beverages, good attentive management, great pool, good size rooms, outdoor terrace bar really very nice indeed.
CONS - Beach not great, rooms could do with more updating but they are adequate, perhaps ice machine on each floor and more people in the restaurants please!
All in all we enjoyed ourselves, ideal for later summer sun, its not 5 star as we know it, but the owner is a wealthy chap, so who knows!
Good facilities, shame about the mattress
We booked this hotel just 2 weeks before leaving and chose it largely because it was a five-star in a big resort that had OK reviews. First thing to bear in mind is that this hotel is not in Limassol town but about 7 miles out along the coast past Amathus so if you're looking for somewhere you can just tip out of the hotel and straight into the busy bars and restaurants of Limassol, you're likely to be disappointed. Having said that, there are at least four or five decent places to eat and drink just opposite the hotel.
The hotel's location just a short drive from the A6 motorway also makes it a brilliant base for exploring the island.
Our room was a second-floor sea-view and all rooms appear to have very good views of the pool and sea and some even have fabulous views of the sunset (ours didn't but that didn't worry us). Don't take a mountain view room because all you'll see is a motorway and a dusty hillside.
The room was perfectly comfortable if a little small and had just one armchair with tea and coffee making facilities and a well-stocked mini-bar. The bathroom was again quite small but had a good powerful shower and a line for hanging wet swimming costumes. There was a nice balcony with space for two chairs and a coffee table.
The main problem was with the mattress - we asked for a double but this was just two singles pushed together and both mattresses were so hard, we woke up with bad backs the next morning. If you get this, complain, because we did get "new" mattresses the next day, although even these felt a little old and saggy.
The breakfast buffet is very generous and of a good quality, though not great, and there was always somewhere nice to sit. The hotel's pool is very deep at one end but has a sectioned off area for children and the water was generally very clean and just cool enough to be refreshing.
The beach is quite small and right next to the neighbouring hotel's but there's lots of space in the shade of the palm trees and the water was generally very clean without being crystal-clear and blue.
There's a good watersports management area by the beach which is not owned by the hotel so you need to pay them in cash. Be warned: we took out the "Super Mable" inflatable two-person ride and it was so powerful, our arms ached for days afterwards!
The hotel has several restaurants but they're all so much more expensive than those found opposite, the only time we ate at the hotel was breakfast and a couple of poolside lunches, which weren't very good.
Reception were OK without being great. We asked them to book us a taxi to pick us up from the airport and they forgot, for example.
All in all, this is a perfectly decent holiday hotel and a great base for those looking for a hassle-free place to stay. If we had stayed in the hotel all day long and done nothing but hang out on the beach and in the local bars, however, I think we would've been very bored.
just returned from a weeks stay at the hawaii grand and enjoyed every second. the hotel has recently been refurbished and to a high standard. although stated to be in limassol it is approx 12 km from the old town but if you are looking for peace and quiet it is perfect- there is a regular bus service from outside the hotel for just £1. Food and drink is slightly overpriced but is to be expected in a 5 star. there are plenty of good restaurants nearby including embers chesters and molly malones. its is worth paying the extra for a sea view as the other rooms overlook the main road and car park. we wil definatley be returning to the Hawaii Grand.
Just came back from Limassol, Cyprus were we stayed at Hawaii Grand Hotel. This hotel was FANTASTIC and the location was perfect. Nice and sunny days beside the pool and the beach next door. We enjoyed everything really and the staff were very helpful. Will definitely stay there again.
Oh and one more thing, do not miss the breakfast.
