Any advice please

by shootingscubasteve

Hi all

Me and a group of diving mates are thinking of going to Cyprus later on this year on a diving trip.

Any advise on hotels and dive centres would be greatly appreciated or do you think it would be cheaper to rent a villa for a week

Wots the conversion rate on the CY£ to sterling at moment

I hear its quite easy to get around in hire cars and such

Thanx in advance for any help

Steve

Hi
We booked a diving course for my stepson and his friend last summer. They did the "try dive" first of all and then my stepson went on to complete the Open Water diver course.

He took both of the courses with Discover Diving, Cyprus (based at the Arsinoe Hotel in Limassol). Andreas is an English Cypriot and his wife tends to deal with the admin side of the business. It's a family run company, which is why we chose to go with them.

My stepson had personal tuition throughout his course, which was brilliant.

I would thoroughly recommend this company - although there are plenty of others available.

The "try dive" starts in the pool so you get used to the equipment - then you go across the road and dive in the sea.

I live in Limassol and will be happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Hi again Steve,

The exchange rate just now is Cy£0.85 to the UK pound.

Car hire and driving is easy in Cyprus as we drive on the same side of the road as UK. You have to be over 23 I think, to hire a car in Cyprus. Best to check with a few hire companies first.

You could also look at staying in Ayia Napa for the nightlife and dive in Larnaca on the Zenobia. Larnaca is about 20 - 30 mins drive from Ayia Napa and lots of the dive centres offer dives on the Zenobia, but depends on your diving skills as the shipwreck is a different depths.

Michele

Hi Michele

Thanx for taking the time to answer my post

We are all fully qualified PADI Divemasters so are savy with regards to diving standards

I think I have seen something on the internet with regards to the family run outfit you mentioned and will look into it a bit further cos we like diving with them as we feel we get a better service and can have a good laugh with them
We thought that staying in Limassol would be best as there seems to be a lot of dive sites based around that part of the coast, but I know it is only a small island and nothing is that far away, we will most definately be giving the Zenobia a few days of our holiday as well

Regards Steve

Hi Steve,

If you do decide to go with Discover - please say "hello" to Andreas from Michele, Clement & Thomas for us. Tell him that Thomas has now gone to live in Australia with his mum and stepdad and fully intends to carry on with his new found diving skills.

Andreas was very good with Thomas and I know he does arrange trips on the Zenobia. It's supposed to be a great site! But there are also diving spots around Akrotiri peninsula too - just to the west of Limassol tourist area.

Michele

Travel Tips for Limassol

Paphos

by Fen

The growing harbour town of Paphos, nestling on the Western coast of the island, is so rich in historical interest that the whole town is included on UNESCOS World Heritage List. My friends and I hired a car and drove to Paphos and spent the day there.

Theatre by the sea

The town of Kourion near Limassol is one of the most impressive archaeological sites of Cyprus to be discovered. Until today more treasures are discovered by archaeologists. The well known ancient Greek-Roman theatre where festivals used to take place was built during the 2nd century b.c. and was extended during the 2nd century a.d. It is fully restored and is now used for musical and theatrical performances. Besides being of historical value, Kourion is also one of the most popular beach around Limassol!

Limassol (Lemesos)

by grayfo

Limassol is the second largest town in Cyprus with a deep-water port where regular cruises set sail for the Holy City in Israel or the Pyramids of Egypt. Home of the Keo distillery and winery Limassol is the second largest town in Cyprus; it has a large port, which is busy with ships visiting from all over the world. There are no real beaches in Limassol town centre but there are a few man-made ones, such as Ladies Mile situated west of the new harbour. There is a vast array of accommodation along the sea front, ranging from: the most luxurious hotels to the more humble apartments, all offering a good standard of accommodation depending on what you want.
