More about Agapinor Hotel
Enjoyed my stay at the Agapinor
by TripAdvisor Member pilchierox
My mum and I have just returned from a week at the Agapinor. To be honest I read the reviews after I booked it and spent the next few weeks dreading it. We were the only 2 people from airport pick up staying there and as we entered reception at 2am I was filled with trepidation..........but got a lovely surprise. Reception is bright and friendly and we were checked in by the security man in less than 10mins. We then went to our room and found it to be very clean and comfortable. The beds are probably hard for some people but they were fine for us. The bathroom was spotless and the towels would have been ok but I had taken my own after reading the reviews.
After a good night's sleep we woke up and opened the balconey door and heard the level of traffic. Yes, the road is busy during business hours but how many people spend the day in their hotel room? With the door closed the room was very quiet. The air conditioning was very effective and meant we did not roast . If the breakfast was repetitive that's up to the individual. Don't know many people that have a choice of cereals, friuts, meats, cheeses, toast and preserves as well as bacon, boiled/scrambled eggs & sausages for breakfast each day, not to mention the variety of hot and cold drinks. As for dinner - delicious. We ate in the restaurant 3 nights and were never disappointed.
The hotel is about half hour walk to the harbour area but it is all downhill and quite pleasant. It's not bad even when you get caught in a thunderstorm! The bus runs every 20mins until 1830 so getting to the tourist bit is easy. In the evening it just means paying £4 for a taxi, which are readily available. The hotel staff were very friendly - Jacek, Hazel, Gabor and Levente especially. The only criticism we had was the maid on our floor didn't knock before coming into the room and kept asking us on our last 2 days when we were leaving!! We spoke to Hazel and she sorted it out.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Agapinor. We found it to be an above average 3* hotel and would be happy to stay there again.
Great little hotel
by TripAdvisor Member Jamesr74
We just returned from the Agapinor Hotel after a 1 week stay at half board which we booked through youtravel.com at £250 in total including an upgrade to a sea view room.
Rooms
The twin room we had was a good size, the bathroom and tiles were very clean. The room also had a TV which had 3 English speaking stations including Sky News. Beds were comfortable and sheets are changed twice a week. The air conditioning was included in the price and worked very well. Each room has its own balcony with a table and 2 chairs.
Pool
The hotel has a small pool and a toddler pool which were spotless and the pool areas have all the correct safety markings indicating depths and rules. Open from 10am until 6pm, the only bad point about the pool area was the fact that the sun doesn’t really get to the loungers until nearer 11am but I am sure this will rise earlier as the season goes on.
Food
I don’t know why so many people complain about the food at Agapinor, we found it to be very good . For breakfast there are various cereals, fruit, breads, sausage, bacon, cheese, eggs, beans and even cake!
For dinner there are various theme nights including, Cypriot, international, carvery (fantastic!) and BBQ with various choices of meats, vegetables and potatoes. There are plenty of specials on the wine list from £4 through to £6 per bottle.
Staff & Entertainment
The staff at the hotel are friendly, helpful and a real asset to the owners. The Sunday night “tribute to the stars” is a good fun night with Nick.
Location and Area
The hotel sits at the top of a hill 2 Km from the harbour and as far as we are concerned this is the worst thing about the hotel. Taxi’s are £4 each way to the harbour at night if you want the bars and restaurants.
If you are dining out we recommend Phuket for the best Chinese food and you have to try the steaks at Café Vienna.
loved it

what a gorgeous country cyprus is and what a lovely and friendly place the agapinor hotel was... the staff at the hotel where amazing always warm and friendly towards us. me and my boyfriend stayed at the hotel for a week in august 2006... our hotel room was lovely and clean, as the cleaners came every day.
we only had our breakfast in the hotel once there wasnt much choice, but there was a seperate snack menu that had some lovely alternatives... the hotel is quite far away from the nightlife and the harbour and taxi's are around $4.00 to anywhere within paphos which worked out quite expensive so we rented a moped for about $25.00 for 5days which was really reasonable. the nightlife was great... got pleanty of free shots and cocktails so that saved us some money.
food and drink worked out quite expensive, but everywhere we ate was lovely ( resturants 'phucket' and 'fat mamas' are a must).
the weather is extremly hot in the day, but quite cool at the night, and the rooms have air con which was great once we had mastered the control.
Lovely Cyprus !

Me and my partner have just returned from this lovely part of the world and would just like to pass our comments on . The hotel was well kept in all aspects for us ,the only downside for me personally was the distance from the harbour / restaurants ,etc ,(even though I find Cyprus a very friendly/safe place) and the hard beds , but I didn't let this stop us enjoying our week there. The staff were very helpful and friendly and did there best at making us feel welcome . I think that people shouldn't expect the luxuries that we all have at home when we travel abroad and we should make the most of our holidays and enjoy it .I would stop at the Agapinor again but I do think that the hotel was originally built for the business types of people who would visit the town of Paphos , due to it's location. On a different note ,if you do go to Paphos you must go to the restaurant called ZA ZA ,up near to Alexander The Great as the food is OUTSTANDING ! Been to Cyprus 5 times and can't wait to go back next year !
Just terrible

How this hotel got license to operate is beyond me. We went here at the end of august and will never ever return. Terrible repetitive meals, towels worn and had patches of different colours on them, sheets did not appear to be cleaned properly and the untrained overworked staff were rude and unhelpful.
From the first day we knew that we would have had problems because although we had booked and paid for a sea view room, we were first told that we hadn’t (!) and then that we had, but sorry, we don’t have any! Every day we were told that the next day we would get a sea view room for the full week! Even on the last day! We stayed in a grubby and damp room on the first floor, above a main road.
I have submitted a long list of complaints to the Tour operator for which I have yet to get a reply. Do not waste your money and go somewhere else.
superb hotel

I traveeled to pathos on a last minute bookig. On arrival, the staff dealt with me promptly and efficiently. Food was o.k. and at least you didn't go hungry. The reception staff are very knowlegeable and helpful as were all the staff O.k. it was in January and there are a lot of retired people there but what can you expect in a med. resort in the middle of winter? I still had a great time , the hotel itself is midway between the old and new towns but there is afirst class bus srevice costing 70 cents 1 way. All in all a first class stay with no complaints about the hotel whatsoever. It was more than adaqaute and comfortable
Nice place! i guess

One star at best

Where do I start...
Rooms ok. My room was linked with another room and the walls are not thick so I could hear the other guests tv and snoring.
The food. If its traditional cypriot food you desire DO NOT come here. Plus it was terrible. Even the muesli was stale.
The pool is VERY small and freezing.
Its 3km downhill to the harbour and it seems to be the only hotel in the old town.
There were lots of people of the older genertation. No younger people at all.
The staff...some were ok and some where damn right rude. I found the english staff the rudest.
I hate to sound negative but im struggling to think of something good. Allt he negative reviews are very accurate and I wish I paid more attention.
Good value
by TripAdvisor Member Darlingdavey
Good value and we got what we paid for. We were looking for a base as we travelled all around the island. Nice little pool and they served great kebabs at the poolside. Food was reasonable, rooms were clean and reception helpful. Centred in the town area of Paphos, it was quite a way down to the harbour in the evening but buses were available at about 2 euros or a taxi would cost £5.
Staff very helpful when my daughter saw the put up bed and cried! They installed another double bed within half and hour! This really helped us.
Thank you to the staff who were pleasant and made the experience well.
Just to say that we had no problems with revellers late at night as out room faced the road towards the townad not the sea.
