all the listings seem dated but here goes can anyone help with bus routes, timetables for 2010

by lgys15653

hi going to paphos for a wedding in august 2010 we are staying in apts new york i have been told that they are near bar street if that helps anyone, the wedding is somewhere near the harbour area about a mile to mile and a half away. would like to know which bus to catch and when they run and when they stop and the cost. many thanks for any help you can give.
ps in case we miss last bus does anyone know the rates that taxis use are they a set fee per mile as in the uk?

If the apartments were really near 'bar street' then they would be less than 5 minutes walk from the harbour.

However, they are not. They are up above the Kato Pafos (harbour) area, probably off Tombs of the Kings road (from their website), a good 15/20 minutes walk away from the harbour area (and uphill going back).

There are buses which go from the harbour along Tombs of the Kins Ave) but they generally stop around 6/7pm. Timetables here:

http://www.paphosfinder.com/transportation/alepa_bus_paphos.htm

Routes 10 & 15 to Coral Bay.

So you will almost certainly want a taxi to get back, unless you fancy the walk. I didn't take one, so cannot be certain they are metered, but it's always best to agree a price before you get in anyway.

Public transport is poor in Paphos. I think you will be reliant on taxis. Contact the appartments direct and see if they know of, or could assist with any transport.

I am 90% sure that taxis within Paphos town area are a fixed price - something like 5 euros when we were there a few years back.
That may not apply after midnight etc but I still dont think they are too expensive.
The taxis all line-up along the sea front leading away from the bend in the road on the harbour entrance. There are bus stops here also but I have no idea how often they run.
As Leics says, I don't think your appt is actually that near to Bar Street. If they were, then you could walk it in 2 - 3 minutes!
The web sites seem to suggest it's 1km from "the centre" - so about 10 minute walking from Bar Street?

If I were in your shoes I would undoubtly prefer to go by taxi no matter what I would have paid. The wedding will finish quite late, so you have to take a taxi. I don't think you will pay more than 5 - 8 euros.(Maximum 10) ....if you catch a late taxi after midnight! Usually they have a fixed price for different distances.
I suggest that before the wedding you approach one or two taxi drivers and ask for the price, so that you will know for sure what to expect.

Travel Tips for Paphos

Paphos

by call_me_rhia

I found the town of Paphos really disappointing... it's huge and it's all made up of abitative concrete blocks, for the retired (from britain, mainly). A very unattractive town with a glorious past... the birthplace of the goddess of love, Aphrodite. Basically, this is not Cyprus, it's a British colony. There's lots of beer around, plenty of fast-food or all-british-food joints, and people enjoying a few drinks too many. Oh, I forgot, very aggressive traffic, too. Paphos is some beautiful sights, too. The mosaic archaeological site is truly stunning and is on the UNESCO list. There's also a Medieval Fort at the harbor and some interesting and lesser known churches. Another great sight is the Tombs of the Kings, a very mysterious and enchanting archaeological area a few kilometres from the centre.

GREAT WAY TO SEE THE ISLAND.

We hired a speed boat which was great fun,it costs 5 Cyprus pounds each and we had half an hour, they do special prices if you want the boat for longer and they supply the life jackets. You can find them down at the harbour in Paphos. Its a great way to see some of the Island.

Odeon, Asclepion & Agora

by globetrott

The Odeon, Asclepion & Agora are at the very end of the excarvation-area in Kato Pafos and they are dating back to the time around 200-400 AD. There are no mosaiques there, just some remains of stones and the seats of a theatre. In this area you also have to be careful, where you go, there are lots of side-paths leading to nowhere or to a place where you have to turn around again or jump down for quite a big distance.

Medieval fun

by anna-m about Robin Hood

Robin Hood bar is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Paphos, partly because of its great position (in the very centre of the "nightlife street", so you can't miss it wherever you go), partly because of its appearance (it is a kitchy, flashy "replica" of a medieval castle), but mostly because of the general atmosphere which is allways very pleasant. The place is frequented both by locals and tourists, the music is different every night, the coctails are yummy and, generally speaking, Robin Hood is a great place to spend a fun evening at. If you don't mind the castle, that is :)

Snacks and Breakfast - Hard to Beat

by cappielow1 about Pambis Diner

Pambis Diner provides a great place for a quick snack/breakfast or evening meal as you wish, or just a rest stop and quick drink on your way home, particularly for those who are staying in the Universal area of Kato Paphos. The menu provides a range of snacks, burgers and full meals at very reasonable prices. "Effiel Tower" - this is listed as a snack, BUT, provides a full tank.
This particular delicacy consists of a layer of French Toast topped with two large sausages, another layer of French toast topped with a couple of rashers of bacon, another layer of French Toast all topped off with baked beans.
I know it's not the healthiest of dishes but, boy it tastes good!!

Stay away from the chips though, They try and make "Real Chips" (rather than frozen) unfortunately it's not happening for them.
